Abstract

IKM NN Aluminum is a metal foundry that produces woks. Based on observations, it appears that the moulding workstation has the highest workload as the operators work in a standing position for 8 hours a day. In addition, the operator lifts a 35 kg mould. This results in un-ergonomic working postures such as excessive bending, head bending and twisting of the body, resulting in waste that has the potential to cause fatigue, physical injury and health problems. The aim of this study is to identify the factors that can cause motion waste, to assess the posture of workers during frying pan moulding activities and to analyse the health implications of the posture assessment. The approach used in this research is lean ergonomics, which combines the principles of lean manufacturing and ergonomics to identify and reduce waste. The methods used are process flow maps to determine the flow of production activities, REBA to identify non-ergonomic postures, and smartwatches for heart rate monitoring to measure worker fatigue. Based on the results of the study, the factor causing motion waste at the moulding workstation is due to the size of the frying pan moulding tool, whose height does not match human anthropometry. Work activities at the moulding station have a high REBA score of 11, which has the potential to cause occupational musculoskeletal disorders. The Pearson correlation test showed a significant relationship between the REBA score and the fatigue level of the workers as measured by heart rate.

Abstract

The community service program at Tour Kali Papah (TKP) ecotourism area was carried out to address the problem of unmanaged waste that threatens environmental sustainability and the quality of tourism. The program employed a participatory empowerment approach through socialization, education, and mentoring activities involving local youth community, residents, and visitors. The activities included the delivery of materials on waste management and ecotourism, interactive discussions, demonstrations of waste sorting, and the introduction of the 3R principles (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle). To measure the program’s effectiveness, pre-test and post-test evaluations were conducted. The results showed a significant increase in participants’ knowledge, with the average score rising from 55.3% to 87.8%. Qualitative observations also indicated a strong enthusiasm from participants, with some proposing the formation of waste management groups and the development of recycled products with economic value. This program has proven effective in improving environmental awareness and behavior while opening opportunities for circular economy innovation at the community level. Follow-up programs are recommended to strengthen waste utilization skills and ensure sustainable management of the ecotourism area.

Abstract

Introduction: Sulfur dioxide (SO2) is one of the gases that can pollute the ambient air and cause respiratory irritation. This study aims to determine the characterization of health risk and risk management of sulfur dioxide (SO2) exposure to prevent health impact in the Tirtonirmolo community, Bantul. Methods: This study was a quantitative descriptive research with an Environmental Health Risk Analysis (EHRA) approach. The study subjects were the Tirtonirmolo community in Bantul, with a sample of 110 respondents. The sampling method uses purposive sampling. Results and Discussion: Most respondents are female (74%) with ages over 54 years (52%), and the majority work as housewives (44%). The description of EHRA variables consists of an inhalation rate of 0.83 m3/hour, exposure time of 22 hours/day, exposure frequency of 354 days/year, and exposure duration for real-time projections of 35 years and 30 years for lifetime projections. The SO2 measurement results did not exceed the national quality standard, with the highest concentration being on Madukismo Road, with a concentration of 11.72 μg/m3. The dose-response analysis uses data from the US-EPA, which is 0.026 mg/kg/day. The real-time average intake value is 0.0039 mg/kg/day, and the 30-year lifetime average intake value is 0.0033 mg/kg/day. Conclusion: All respondents from this study had an RQ value<1, both in the RQ for real-time and lifetime. Risk management needs to reduce health risk by using masks when doing outdoor activities and installing Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) in factories that emit SO2 emissions.
