Abstract

Understanding concepts is a very important aspect in learning, especially in science learning where there are many complex concepts and theories so good understanding is needed. The role of educators, methods and teaching materials will be maximized to provide students with a good understanding of concepts. This research aims to determine the increase in students' understanding of science concepts before and after the application of the Science Exploration Book on Earth and Solar System material in class VII by taking samples using a purposive sampling technique. Data collection in this research was in the form of pretest and posttest and analyzed using N-Gain to determine the increase in understanding of concepts that occurred. Based on the research results, there is an increase in the form of differences in the average results of students' pretest and posttest, so it can be concluded that the application of the Science Exploration Book can improve students' understanding of science concepts in Class VII on Earth and Solar System material with a low N-Gain Score category. Highlights: Key role of educators, methods, and materials in science concept understanding. Science Exploration Book enhances Class VII students' grasp of Earth and Solar System concepts. Research shows improvement with a low N-Gain Score category. Keywords: Concept Understanding, Science Exploration Book, N-Gain, Earth, Solar System.

Abstract

One of the important skills to develop is scientific communication skills, communication is very important in everyday life. This research aims to determine the effect of the guided inquiry learning model on the scientific communication skills of class VII students at SMPN 1 Gempol, Pasuruan Regency. This research is a quasi-experiment conducted with a posttest-only design. The research sample was class VII D students as the experimental class and class VII C students as the control class with each class having 32 students. In this study, environmental pollution material was used in the experimental class, which was treated using the guided inquiry learning model, while the control class used the learning model commonly used by teachers at the school. The results of the research show that there are significant differences in value and influence in the guided inquiry learning model on written and oral scientific communication skills. Highlights: Guided Inquiry Impact: Examines effect on scientific communication skills. Quasi-Experiment Framework: Utilizes posttest-only design for structured assessment. Written and Oral Proficiency: Highlights impact on both communication modes. Keywords: Guided Inquiry, Written Communication Skills, Oral Communication Skills

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to analyze the need for developing digital textbooks as interactive learning aids in the digital era. A survey with a research instrument in the form of a questionnaire was utilized as the research method. The questionnaire was distributed to 40 class VII pupils. Data analysis techniques employ descriptive statistics to identify the primary needs of students, as well as the design and desired interactive elements in digital textbooks. According to the requirements analysis, digital textbooks must have practice questions and answer keys, video and audio, student activity sheets, and relevant pictures. Furthermore, digital textbooks are simple to use, with Indonesian, colorful, easy-to-understand content and easy-to-read font kinds and sizes. These findings will serve as the foundation for the creation of digital textbooks that will improve the efficacy of learning in the digital age. Highlights : Interactive Elements: Digital textbooks should include practice questions, answer keys, multimedia (video and audio), activity sheets, and relevant images. User-Friendly Design: Textbooks need to be easy to use with clear, colorful content, and easy-to-read fonts in the Indonesian language. Educational Impact: The development of digital textbooks based on these findings aims to enhance the effectiveness of learning in the digital age. Keywords : digital era; digital textbook; interactive learning resources; needs analysisv

Abstract

This study presents the development of a science learning e-book integrating socio-scientific issues within environmental education. General Background: Digital learning resources such as interactive e-books have become increasingly significant in supporting science education in the digital era. Specific Background: Integrating Socio-Scientific Issue (SSI) approaches into science learning enables students to connect scientific concepts with real environmental problems, including batik waste pollution in Jetis Sidoarjo. Knowledge Gap: However, limited digital learning media contextualize local environmental issues within Phase D science curriculum content while systematically promoting higher-order thinking skills. Aims: This study aims to develop an SSI-based science e-book that links environmental pollution and interactions among living organisms with the contextual issue of batik waste. Results: The developed e-book consists of structured materials, issue analysis, observation and evaluation activities, quizzes, reflective tasks, and final projects designed to foster HOTS indicators C4 and C5, supported by interactive navigation and visual communication design. Novelty: The novelty lies in the integration of local batik waste issues into an interactive digital format aligned with the curriculum. Implications: The e-book serves as a supplementary science learning resource that promotes contextual understanding and active student engagement in environmental problem solving. Keywords: Science Learning E-Book, Socio-Scientific Issue, Batik Waste Pollution, Higher-Order Thinking Skills, Environmental Education Key Findngs Highlights: Interactive digital material connects environmental pollution topics with local batik waste cases. Structured analytical and evaluative activities facilitate advanced cognitive processes. Contextual project tasks encourage solution-oriented reasoning in science classes.
