Abstract

The study aims to develop an acid-base e-module based on guided discovery learning using React Native to improve the problem-solving skills of senior high school students. The research method is Educational Design Research (EDR) using the Plomp model. The e-module using React Native is presented in the form of a mobile application that can be accessed on smartphones. The presentation of acid-base material in the e-module is adapted to the syntax of Guided Discovery Learning. The e-module was validated by 5 validators, including 3 subject matter experts and 2 media experts, using a questionnaire analysed with Aiken's V. Practicality was assessed by 9 students representing low, medium, and high ability categories using a questionnaire in the small group stage, analysed using achievement percentages. Effectiveness was determined by comparing pre-test and post-test scores of students using the N-gain formula. The validation results of the acid-base e-module using React Native were 0.90, categorized as valid, and the practicality of the e-module was 92%, categorized as highly practical. Effectiveness was obtained from N-gain data of 0.71, categorised as high (sufficiently effective). Hypothesis testing was conducted using the Wilcoxon test because the data was not normally distributed, with a sign of < 0.001, indicating that the acid-base e-module based on guided discovery learning using React Native can improve the problem-solving skills of senior high school students in phase F.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a valid and reliable assessment instrument for the application of deep learning in high school chemistry instruction. The development of the instrument is based on Wilson’s Four Building Blocks approach (2005), which includes construct maps, items, item scores, and measures. The study was conducted with 271 twelfth-grade students from three public high schools in West Sumatra, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a student perception questionnaire designed based on the four pillars of deep learning implementation: graduate profile dimensions, learning principles, learning experiences, and learning frameworks. Content validity was analyzed using Aiken’s V, while empirical validity and reliability were tested using the Rasch Model. The results showed an average Aiken’s V value of 0.90, indicating excellent content validity. Rasch analysis yielded a respondent reliability of 0.97 and an item reliability of 0.95, with fit statistics within the ideal range and supporting construct unidimensionality. From the initial 116 items, the final instrument consists of 46 items that passed through a rigorous empirical selection process to ensure high measurement quality. Thus, this instrument is suitable for evaluating the level of deep learning implementation at the elementary to intermediate levels in high school chemistry education.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the improvement of students' learning motivation in chemistry, specifically on the topic of atomic structure, through the implementation of a series of instructional improvements incorporating the educational game platform Kahoot!. The study was motivated by the low level of student motivation observed during chemistry lessons, both in individual and group activities, which was presumed to be caused by conventional, low-interaction teaching approaches. This research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design following the Kemmis and McTaggart model, comprising two cycles, with each cycle consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The subjects were 40 tenth-grade students at SMA Negeri 3 Padang. Data were collected using a learning motivation observation sheet designed to assess seven indicators of student motivation, including student engagement, initiative, communication, collaboration, information-seeking, and respect for peers' contributions. The collected data were analyzed descriptively using percentage calculations, with the results of each cycle used as a basis for reflection and refinement of actions in the subsequent cycle. The results showed an increase in the average percentage of student learning motivation from Cycle I to Cycle II, from 44.72% to 82.6%, exceeding the predetermined minimum target of 75%. This increase is attributed to the cumulative effect of the instructional improvements implemented in Cycle II, in which Kahoot! served as one component alongside increased teacher-student interaction and expanded opportunities for student participation. Based on the observation results across the two cycles, it can be concluded that the combination of these improvements, with Kahoot! as a key gamification element, was associated with an improvement in students' learning motivation in chemistry.

Abstract

Twenty first century chemistry education requires learning resources that not only improve conceptual understanding but also foster students' creativity and independent learning. However, existing Acid base practicum guides generally emphasize laboratory procedures and have not integrated ethnoscience and Chemo-Entrepreneurship (CEP) in a single instructional resource. This study aimed to develop and validate an ethnoscience and CEP integrated Acid base practicum guide for senior high school chemistry. Educational Design Research (EDR) employing the Plomp model was selected because it provides a systematic framework for designing and validating educational products before classroom implementation. The study was limited to the preliminary research and prototyping phases. Product validity was evaluated through expert review involving five validators and one-to-one evaluation with three students representing different academic ability levels. Validity data were analyzed using Aiken's V. The practicum guide achieved an overall Aiken's V value of 0.93, indicating high validity, with content, presentation, language, and graphical validity indices of 0.93, 0.95, 0.92, and 0.95, respectively. The one-to-one evaluation further demonstrated that students considered the guide clear, systematic, and easy to follow. These findings provide empirical evidence that integrating ethnoscience and Chemo-Entrepreneurship within a chemistry practicum guide is feasible while maintaining scientific validity, thereby offering a contextual instructional resource has the potential to support creativity and independent learning in senior high school chemistry.

Abstract

Developing Guided Discovery Learning-Based Reaction Rate Worksheet Integrated with Ethnoscience Oriented to Deep Learning Principles. This study aims to develop a reaction rate student worksheet (LKPD) based on guided discovery learning integrated with ethnoscience, and to determine its validity and practicality in supporting deep learning principles at SMA/MA. This development research applied the 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate). The subjects of this study were students of class XI F 2 at SMAN 16 Padang. Data were collected using preliminary study instruments (teacher interviews and student need questionnaires), validity instruments (expert validation sheets), and practicality instruments (teacher and student response questionnaires). The developed worksheet achieved a high validity score of V = 0,93 (valid category). The practicality tests by the teacher and students yielded scores of 93% and 84%, respectively, both falling into the highly practical category. Furthermore, the implementation of this worksheet successfully helped students improve their deep learning principles. The guided discovery learning-based reaction rate worksheet integrated with ethnoscience can be successfully developed using the 4D model, meets the valid criteria, is highly practical for chemistry learning, and effectively enhances students' deep learning principles.
