Secondly, at the phase of drafting, the researchers ask students to work cooperatively, to construct the main ideas and supporting ideas this activity ends with the results which are sentences then paragraphs. Furthermore, before the researchers provide a writing task: writing a biography news, students are given transitional words to make their composition coherently. Lastly, they upload their composition in their blog. In short, in the proposed teaching EFL writing: a biography news story, by interviewing, students can understand how to organize the writing material according to the necessities of the writing task; writing biography News. To sum up, prewriting activities; through interviewing can assist EFL students to generate the ideas which can inspire and aid them realize both what they want to write and how to write it on their writing task: A Biography News.

Abstract

In learning English, the students often make some problems while building a recount text. One of the problems causing it is that the teacher might use the old teaching method. This research aimed to observe the effect of grammar-focused writing instruction on the tenth-grade students' writing recount text at one of the Senior High School State at Kabupaten Tangerang. The research method used in this research was a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental design by using a non-equivalent control group design. The population of this research was 460 tenth grade students. The sample of this research was taken from two classes that were chosen by using Simple Random Sampling. There were X IPS 4 as the controlled class and X IPS 5 as the experimental class. The normality test result showed that the data is normally distributed, and the homogeneity test result showed that the variants belong to a homogeneous population. The analysis results of post-test by using t-test (The Pooled Variance Model T-test) were obtained data that t-count = 4,37 and t-table = 1,99 with significant level ɑ = 5% or 0,05. From the post-test calculation result, H0 is rejected, and H1 is accepted. It can be concluded that there is a significant effect of students’ writing recount text between students in the experimental class who were taught by using grammar-focused writing instruction and students in the controlled class who were taught by using the conventional method.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the implementation of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) to teach English in a vocational school. This study is qualitative with document analysis. The data were taken from four-session English lesson plans from a vocational school, observation, interview, and library research. The results showed the crucial impact of OBE to ensure the learning outcome, especially in a vocational school. OBE is expected to answer the education challenge in the 21st century to provide students with the required skills and competency. The area of analysis covers three areas: objectives, teaching materials, and assessment. It is recommended that teachers construct concrete materials and action in the viewpoint that the English skills taught can be used in the students' lives in the upcoming time in their future job related to the expertise in accounting. Finally, this study has important implications for accomplishing the framework for the practice and methods of goal setting, classroom activities, and assessment and evaluation of student's performance based on the OBE framework.

Abstract

Scheduling is one of the many problems that has been done in research for many years. Problems preparing the schedule in college are about college scheduling. The timing process should be done for each semester, which is a tiring and time-consuming task. The overall allocation of events in timeslots and spaces is done by the course scheduling process by considering the list of hard constraints and soft constraints, so there is no conflict created in allocating the schedule. Therefore, it is necessary to create a lecture scheduling application that is able to facilitate and overcome the problems in organizing the lecture schedule. The proposed scheduling system design proposed in this study is to optimize the schedule of lectures using the Auto Generate Timetable method with arrays to find the best candidates for college scheduling with the aim of minimizing the conflict and optimizing the scheduling schedule. This method is based on the process of lecturing process that has been conducted in college. Every curriculum, space, day / time, is needed to arrange the schedule of students and lecturers as part of the scheduling variable that is the solution candidate. Then the process of adjusting to constraints has been made with various parameters. The research method is to collect the data, analysis, design, coding, testing and up to the maintenance phase by using the Waterfall System Development Lifecycle method. The waterfall model provides a life-cycle approach to the development of software systems in sequential or sequential form. So with the existence of this application, it is hoped that the arrangement of lectures will not find problems as a constraint in arranging the lecture schedule

Analysis of the needs is an imperative pace for curriculum developers in different subjects, including assisted-technology in prewriting activities in EFL Journalism. Needs are required to examine the assisted-technology demanded while EFL learners applied prewriting activities. This study aimed to study assisted-technology necessities in EFL students' prewriting activities at a private university in Indonesia. The study investigated the needs of assisted technology in prewriting activities in EFL Journalism learning. A qualitative description has been developed. Seventy-two students completed the questionnaires, and several students were also interviewed. The result revealed that students are in needs, lacks, and wants assisted-technology in prewriting activities. Abstract

The objective of the research was to know the differences between the ninth grade students of SMPN 1 Rajeg in reading comprehension used group work technique and those used conventional method. The research was conducted to the ninth grade students of SMPN 1 Rajeg which consist of two classes as sample, IX.G as experiment class and IX.J as control class. The IX.G used group work technique in teaching reading comprehension while IX.J used conventional method. The methodology of the research was quasi experimental design and quantitative method. The data of this research were collected by giving the test (pre-test and post-test) to the sample. The collected data were analyzed by using t-test formula. It was used to test hypothesis to know whether there is difference in reading comprehension between the students given group work technique and those given conventional method. The result of the data analysis showed that  was 4.78 higher than  1.99 with 5% of significant level. The data  was higher than   (4.78 > 1.99). It was mean that Hı was accepted while Ho was rejected. It also means that there was significance of students’ reading comprehension between students in experiment class who were taught by group work technique and the students in control class who were taught by using conventional method at SMPN 1 Rajeg. Keyword: Group Work Technique, Reading Comprehension

Abstract

Nowadays generally, technology encompasses all aspects of modern life and particularly, the writing by using English language. The challenges of learning English writing in Indonesia are plenty as English is perceived as a Foreign Language. This paper aims to reveal tertiary level students’ perception and attitude towards their technology aptitude: usage models, noticed benefits of and challenges to employ technology in learning English as Foreign Language (EFL) writing. This is a qualitative research, a case study, and used a self-structured questionnaire and interview to collect the data. Two participant lecturer observers and one hundred and sixty-seven students in a private college in Tangerang were purposively selected thirty students for questionnaire and interview. The data were carried out to reveal the lecturers and students’ perspective of assistive technology in EFL writing. The results revealed that assistive technology such as Webbing/Blogs, Computer software, Social Mediaapps, YouTubechannel, smart phone and tablet apps are found to be used by EFL learners to learn EFL Writing. Yet, most of the students had constraint at bad Internet connection. The outcome of this study offers thinkable instructional suggestions for students’ EFL Writing and creates base for further studies in this area. Keywords: Students’ EFL Writing, Learning EFL Writing, Assistive Technology

Abstract

The objective of the research is to see the effectiveness of Games and Simulation in speaking skill on the seventh grade students at SMP Teknologi Pilar Bangsa. The technique applied in this research was quas-experimental research. In this research, there were two classes taught by using different techniques. The experimental class was taught by using Games and Simulation technique while the controlled class was taught by using conventional technique. Futhermore, this research was conducted through the following procedures: giving pre-test, applying treatments, and giving posttest. The sample of this research were 30 students of class 7.1 and 31 students of class 7.3. Normality test was tested by using chi-square. From the calculation of normality showed that the data are normally distributed population. The homogeneity test result of students learning reading comprehension has homogeneous variance. Furthermore, the t-test showed that t-count of experimental class is 3.25, was higher than t-table. The t-test of control class is 3.25, was higher than t-table. It means that finding of this study shows that there is a significance difference in the result between students in class 7 as control class that were taught without games and simulation technique and students in class as experimental class that were taught speaking skill using games and simulation technique.
