Abstract

Background: Adolescents’ today are part of Generation Z, growing up and living closely with digital life. This may potentially impact mental health and subjective well-being. Low self-esteem, fear of missing out (FoMO), and bullying may be important correlates of life satisfaction and affective states. Objectives:This study examined associations between mental health indicators, namely low self-esteem, FoMO, and bullying domains, and subjective well-being measured by life satisfaction, positive affect, and negative affect among adolescents. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was administered to 223 adolescents. Validated self-report instruments measured Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES) , FoMo (fear of missing out scale), Revised Olweus Bully/Victim Questionnaire (OBVQ-R), and subjective well-being (Satisfaction with Life Scale, Positive Affect, Negative Affect). Descriptive statistics characterized the sample. Pearson correlation coefficients were computed to assess relationships among variables. Results:Participants were aged 17 to 19 years (M = 17.56, SD = 0.51). Most were female (60.5 percent). In terms of social media use, 33.6 percent reported three platform social media and 26.0 percent reported four platform social media. Correlation analyses indicated that lower self-esteem was associated with lower life satisfaction (r = .217, p < .01) and lower positive affect (r = .142, p < .05), and with higher negative affect (r = –.133, p < .05). Higher FoMO correlated with lower life satisfaction (r = –.146, p < .05) and higher negative affect (r = .235, p < .01). Total bullying scores were negatively correlated with life satisfaction (r = –.191, p < .01) and positive affect (r = –.159, p < .05), and positively correlated with negative affect (r = .177, p < .01). Conclusion:Low self-esteem, FoMO, and bullying are associated with poorer subjective well-being in adolescents. Targeted interventions addressing self-esteem and digital social dynamics may improve adolescent well-being Keywords: adolescents, bullying, fear of missing out, self-esteem, subjective well-bein

Abstract

The enthusiastic engagement of Indonesian society in democratic processes, particularly during presidential elections and representation selections, highlights a notable manifestation of fanaticism across various domains. This phenomenon, while not novel, often generates conflicts, tensions, and mental health challenges. Methods: This article provides an overview of the impact of fanaticism on mental health using a literature synthesis approach. A systematic search was conducted across three reputable databases: Google Scholar, PubMed, and Taylor and Francis Online. The search strategy included keywords such as "fanaticism," "mental health," "Indonesia," and related terms. Articles were selected based on their relevance to the topic and inclusion of empirical evidence or theoretical insights. After the initial search, articles were screened based on their titles and abstracts to identify relevant literature. Full-text articles were then retrieved and thoroughly examined to assess their suitability for inclusion in the synthesis. Articles that met the inclusion criteria were further analyzed. Data synthesis involved identifying common themes, patterns, and trends across the selected articles, facilitating a comprehensive understanding of the impact of fanaticism on mental health in the Indonesian context. Results: Findings depict fanaticism as more than mere admiration, evolving into a profound commitment that shapes individuals' self-perception. This internalization fosters a belief in absolute righteousness, intolerance towards dissenting viewpoints, and alienation of those outside the established narrative. Consequently, individuals may experience psychological repercussions such as anxiety, anger, and frustration. Moreover, fanaticism can culminate in severe outcomes including antisocial behavior and self-harm. Discussion: Exploring the connection between fanaticism and mental health underscores the importance of understanding and addressing this complex phenomenon in society. By acknowledging the psychological impacts of fanaticism, interventions and support mechanisms can be developed to mitigate its adverse effects and promote societal well-being

Abstract

Abstract

The high incidence of traffic accidents in urban areas necessitates rapid first-aid responses before professional healthcare providers arrive at the scene. Online motorcycle taxi (ojek online) drivers are community members who are frequently present at accident sites and have the potential to act as first responders; however, they generally lack adequate knowledge and skills in providing physical and psychological first aid. This community service program aimed to strengthen first-aid preparedness through the establishment of the ToS-ReAct To PPFA Task Force (Tolong Sesama – Responsive and Rapid Action for Physical and Psychological First Aid) among online motorcycle taxi drivers in Depok City. The program employed educational and training methods combining theory and practice, covering basic first-aid concepts, Psychological First Aid (PFA) using the 3L approach (Look, Listen, Link), and physical first-aid skills such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), simple splinting, and bleeding control. Program evaluation was conducted through pre- and post-tests of knowledge, observation of practical skills, and participant feedback. The results demonstrated an increase in the mean knowledge score from 54 to 72, representing a 42.31% improvement. Furthermore, all participants (100%) were able to correctly demonstrate the components of the PFA 3L approach and physical first-aid skills. This program proved effective in enhancing the capacity of online motorcycle taxi drivers as community first responders and has the potential to strengthen local emergency preparedness systems. Abstract
