Abstract

This study aimed to develop and validate the quality of a multiple-choice instrument for measuring fifth-grade elementary students' understanding of kinetic-to-electrical energy conversion concepts within a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) framework. The research employed a Design and Development Research (DDR) approach with systematic instrument development procedures comprising: literature review and blueprint development, item construction, expert validation, field testing with 28 fifth-grade students, and comprehensive psychometric analysis. The instrument consists of 20 multiple-choice items covering three knowledge dimensions: conceptual (5 items), procedural (10 items), and applicative (5 items). Content validity was established through expert review by three science education specialists, yielding a Content Validity Index (CVI) of 0.87. Item analysis revealed difficulty indices ranging from 0.35 to 0.85 (predominantly moderate difficulty) and discrimination indices ranging from 0.30 to 0.75 (good to excellent discrimination). Reliability analysis using Cronbach's alpha produced a coefficient of 0.82, indicating high internal consistency suitable for elementary school assessment contexts. The instrument demonstrates satisfactory psychometric properties aligned with standards for elementary science assessment and effectively integrates STEAM pedagogical approaches.

Abstract

The education industry has seen a substantial transformation thanks to artificial intelligence (AI), which has improved administrative effectiveness, accessibility, and individualized learning. However, issues like moral dilemmas, digital justice, and policy inconsistencies still exist. From 2015 to 2024, this bibliometric research explores how AI is revolutionizing education. Personalized learning, improved accessibility, and expedited administrative procedures have all been made possible by AI; yet, issues with cost, digital equity, and ethics still exist. We used the Web of Science (WoS) database to conduct a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of 291 peer-reviewed articles that were indexed in the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI). The PRISMA methodology was used in the study to find and filter pertinent material. Thematic trends, citation patterns, and co-authorship networks were examined using bibliometric tools like VOSviewer. The progress of generative AI tools like ChatGPT, the importance of AI in democratizing education, and the integration of AI into curriculum building are some of the key discoveries. The report identifies significant nations, organizations, and researchers in AI education and emphasizes global research relationships. Our research raises ethical governance issues while shedding light on AI’s potential to promote individualized learning and increase student engagement. These findings support sustainable development goal (SDG) 4 on quality education by highlighting the need for responsible AI use to address the digital divide. This paper offers useful suggestions for academics, educators, and legislators to maximize AI’s promise while tackling its drawbacks.

Abstract

This study aimed to assess the curricular experiences of STEM learners in writing their science investigatory projects as a requirement under the Special Science Class, which served as their basis for supporting the integration of the relevant skill sets in the research curriculum. To do this, the researcher developed and validated a survey questionnaire which was administered in February 2024 during a training workshop, and the data were processed using SPSS. The findings showed that most of the respondents (n=54) had had an experience concerning the 11 skill sets in writing, with three skill sets emerging as experienced by all of them. Further, when asked how they think these skill sets could be formally integrated into a research subject for the Special Science Class, the findings showed Very High support for integrating them. Policy recommendations for STEM education for a sustainable curriculum are provided.

Abstract

Gender equality as a sustainable development goal is hoped to neutralize the influence of gender differences in all development sectors, including education. This region-wide survey among elementary school administrators (n=1626) in the Philippines revealed that the ratio of female-to-male administrators is 2:1. Profiling of the target respondents showed that more women finished their doctoral degrees and that the majority of the administrators are non-holders of a principal position for both genders and that both genders only have their highest level of relevant training and professional affiliation at the 'division level,' with very limited participation to international level. Further, statistical analysis showed that gender and school geography have a highly significant correlation, though the strength of the association is weak. Furthermore, gender correlates with age, civil status, highest educational attainment, and none with others, while geography correlates with the highest professional training and affiliation. The computed means of the school success indicators are high. However, none correlate with either gender and geography, except for average monthly MOOE utilization, which shows a highly significant correlation with geography, implying that schools in rural areas have lower utilization than those in urban areas. Interestingly, though the association is 'weak,' analysis shows that male administrators are associated with higher promotion rates, completion rates, mean percentage scores, and average monthly MOOE utilization. Policy recommendations are provided to address the issues found.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate patterns in the application of computational thinking (CT) in scientific education.  This study used a systematic review. Eleven papers from the ERIC database that were published between 2021 and 2025 were analyzed using the qualitative descriptive method.  According to the review's findings, CT has been extensively employed across a range of educational levels, most notably in scientific and physics courses, as well as at the elementary school and high school levels. STEM is the most often utilized technique.  CT has been used extensively in education and has been shown to improve student learning results, scientific idea comprehension, and critical thinking abilities.
