Abstract

Urban farming is an agricultural innovation that is rapidly developing in urban areas in response to land constraints and increasing food demand. This study aims to analyse the effectiveness of three main urban farming technologies, namely hydroponics, vertical farming, and aquaponics, through a literature review. The analysis results indicate that hydroponics offers optimal water use efficiency and nutrient control, resulting in high-quality yields on limited land. Vertical farming maximises the use of vertical space, increases productivity, and provides aesthetic value to the urban environment. Meanwhile, aquaponics integrates fish farming and plant cultivation in a closed system, producing two commodities simultaneously while conserving water and land resources. Although these three technologies have significant advantages, challenges such as initial investment requirements, dependence on electricity and clean water, and the need for technical knowledge remain major obstacles. Policy support, training, and cross-sector collaboration are essential to expand the adoption and sustainability of urban farming technologies in urban areas. Overall, innovations in hydroponic, vertical farming, and aquaponics technologies have the potential to become strategic solutions for achieving food, economic, and environmental sustainability in the future.

Abstract

Urban farming is a strategic solution to address food security and environmental challenges in densely populated urban areas with limited land. This study aims to examine the application of smart technology in urban farming through a literature review, with a focus on the role of sensors, automatic irrigation systems, and organic waste management. The study findings indicate that sensor integration enables real-time monitoring of plant conditions, allowing for precise and efficient interventions. Automatic irrigation systems based on sensors and the Internet of Things (IoT) have proven effective in reducing water usage and increasing crop productivity. Additionally, organic waste management through composting and liquid fertilisers supports sustainable agricultural cycles and reduces urban waste volume. Despite challenges such as initial investment costs, limited knowledge, and infrastructure requirements, the potential for developing technology-based urban farming is significant with cross-sector collaboration. Thus, the utilisation of smart technology in urban farming can serve as an innovative solution to create an efficient, productive, and environmentally friendly urban agricultural system.

Abstract

Global food security issues are becoming increasingly important as the world's population grows, consumption patterns change, and pressure on land-based food sources increases. In this context, fisheries play a strategic role as a major provider of high-quality animal protein that is relatively efficient, nutritious, and sustainable. This study aims to analyse the contribution of fisheries to food security, both on a global and local scale, and to examine the potential for diversifying marine food sources in supporting sustainable protein availability. The method used is a qualitative-descriptive approach through literature analysis and secondary data from international and national institutions. The results of the study show that the fisheries sector plays an important role not only in providing nutrition, but also in supporting the coastal economy, creating jobs, and strengthening socio-cultural identity. However, this strategic role faces challenges in the form of overfishing, marine ecosystem degradation, and climate change that threaten sustainability. In addition, the study found that marine food diversification, through the development of commodities such as seaweed, shellfish, crustaceans, non-high-value fish, and microalgae, can be an important strategy to reduce dependence on commercial fish sources. Diversification not only broadens the spectrum of protein consumption and meets micronutrient needs, but also contributes to ecosystem stability, food crisis mitigation, and the development of an environmentally friendly marine bioeconomy. Therefore, strengthening sustainable traditional fisheries must be aligned with innovations in marine food diversification, supported by national policies, international collaboration, and increased consumer awareness. Through this approach, marine-based food systems can become an important foundation in ensuring the availability of healthy, diverse, and sustainable protein for future generations.

Abstract

In today's digital age, technology integration in education has significant potential to develop students' cognitive skills and shape a generation of critical thinkers. The use of innovative educational tools and applications can stimulate analytical thinking, problem-solving and creativity. Technology offers a range of interactive tools that can be customised to students' skill levels, allowing for more individualised and effective learning. However, the application of technology in education also presents challenges that need to be overcome. Issues such as disparities in access to technology, varying digital skills among teachers, as well as the disruption that technology use can cause in the classroom, necessitate appropriate strategies and policies. Inclusive programmes that provide equitable access to tools and training, as well as improving teacher competencies through continuous training, are important steps to overcome these barriers. Ultimately, the successful integration of technology in education depends not only on the availability of technological devices, but also on how they are used to transform teaching and learning methods. A comprehensive approach involving active and collaborative learning, and a focus on developing critical and creative thinking skills, will create a more dynamic and empowering learning environment for students. As such, technology can be a major catalyst in the effort to create a generation ready to face future challenges with superior cognitive skills.

Abstract

Entrepreneurial spirit is the main focus of MSME socialization in rural areas. The program aims to increase entrepreneurial spirit and capability among rural communities through campaigns and support for micro, small and medium enterprises. The socialization focuses on education, training, and collaboration to overcome barriers faced by MSME players, in order to help improve the economy and living standards of local residents. The research method in this study uses a literature study. The results show that, first, the level of entrepreneurial literacy and understanding among villagers is still low, leading to slow business development and lack of product innovation. Second, rural MSMEs face significant constraints in accessing capital and funding sources, due to the lack of collateral and adequate financial records as well as complex regulations. Third, the lack of collaboration between the government, private sector and communities is a barrier to supporting the development of rural MSMEs. Support in the form of entrepreneurship training programs, simplification of regulations, and provision of adequate infrastructure is urgently needed. Effective socialization of entrepreneurial opportunities to villagers has proven to be able to encourage the growth of entrepreneurial spirit. With continuous socialization, MSMEs in villages have great potential to develop into the backbone of the local economy, which in turn will contribute to improving the living standards of local communities.
