Abstract

Repeated disaster events should ideally foster resilience and preparedness among all community stakeholders. In an era of information openness and technological advancement, emerging signs and potential risks can be identified and prevented from escalating into disasters. Therefore, the Community Service Program (PkM) conducted by lecturers and students of the Communication Studies Program, Universitas Kebangsaan Republik Indonesia (Ilkom UKRI), targets community groups at the forefront who are directly affected by disasters. This consideration underlies the selection of Jelegong Village, Rancaekek, as the location for the Community Service Program (PkM) conducted by lecturers and students of Ilkom UKRI. As an application of communication science, this Community Service Program aims to foster disaster preparedness among residents of Rancaekek District in responding to various types of disasters that may occur, including potential recurring disasters. In its implementation, the program employed an educational outreach method through lectures to deliver information, knowledge, and understanding to the community. The results of the Community Service Program indicate an emerging awareness among village residents of the importance of developing disaster preparedness attitudes, particularly in anticipating disasters caused by seasonal changes or drastic and unpredictable weather transitions.
