Abstract

English is still considered a third language after the unified language of Indonesia and mother tongue. In the current conditions, when various regions around the world are connected to a global network, English is absolutely mastered. English is the main language that can connect all citizens of the world. As a language of instruction that facilitates the exchange of various potentials owned by a village, opens opportunities to foster interest in visiting world citizens, or opens up investment possibilities, or transactions to purchase regional wealth resources. Therefore, through community service activities, the English Literature lecturer at the National University of the Republic of Indonesia aims to provide English language skills to youth who are members of Youth Organizations and mothers who are members of the Family Welfare Development (PKK) in Sunten Jaya Lembang village, West Bandung Regency. PkM activities are carried out using lecture and discussion methods to provide proper understanding and teaching regarding English symbols that must be understood. The results obtained from this activity are awareness of the need to have English language skills, in order to be able to promote Sunten Jaya as an agricultural area worthy of being used as a tourist destination.Keywords: English, promotion, tourism, potential, Sunten Jaya

Abstract

Penelitian ini didasari oleh pembelajaran bahasa Arab sudah lama berlangsung, inovasi dikembangkankan, namun belum menunjukkan perkembangan signifikan jika dibandingkan pembelajaran bahasa asing lainnya. Secara umum, tujuan penelitian  untuk mengetahui problem implementasi pembelajaran bahasa Arab program al-Ma’had al-Lughawy PBA UIN Bandung. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah studi kasus terpancang. Sumber data yaitu Informan. pengajar, dosen, pengurus, dan mahasiswa, proses pembelajan, dokumen dan arsip. Analisis  dilakukan dengan  triangulasi sumber data. Hasil penelitian menunjukan lingkungan bedampak pada pembiasaan praktik komunikasi. Adapun Kendala pembelajaran adalah materi, metode, media, lingkungan social, sistem,  minimnya praktik,  sarana, kebersihan, adapun kendala linguistik seperti interferensi dan non linguistik motivasi dan percayadiri. Rekomendasi  penelitian lanjutan terkait interaksi mahasiswa, pemerolehan bahasa kedua, problem intereferensi, dan komponen pembelajaran secara khusus dalam kontek lingkungan bahasa.

Abstract

Evidence of the history of the sea in Islam, can be seen from the existence of historical evidence in the form of relics and terminology that are still used in the language community, especially the Arab community. Based on this explanation, the author tries to study manuscripts on the history of the sea in Islam through a lexico-semantic approach in the form of entries from several Indonesian-Arabic and English Bilingual dictionaries, as well as manuscript descriptions of the history of the sea in Islam, inventory at the word level, and semantic analysis at the word level. and sentences. The research findings show that the text descriptions of Islamic history show that several terms refer to the fields of maritime, navy, and political icons and my which characterize Islamic maritime history, besides that several entries have experienced several changes and shifts in meaning.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aims to analyze the figure of speech in the poem “I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud” by William Wordsworth. The study's design is descriptive qualitative with no changes in the variables. It described the result of the semiotic analysis of the poetry “I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud”. The research technique has been done by using the super reader theory of analysis by Michael Riffaterre which focuses on three concepts: displacing, distorting, and creating. The result of the analysis shows that William Wordsworth’s poem represents super reader theory. Displacing the meaning of semiotic Super Reader reveals figurative language such as metaphor, personification, simile, and synecdoche. The figurative language revealed by the displacing and distorted meaning shows how the reflection of solitudes is described and his view on the sound of crowded society in the romantic age. This creates meaning when he feels lonely, angry, and alienated from it. The figurative language of metaphor has more dominance in this poem that relates to distorting meaning that some phrases or clauses have ambiguity, contradiction, and nonsense.

Abstract

Bilingual dictionaries are necessary to help learners understand and communicate in the target language, and bilingual dictionaries serve as a second resource when native speakers are not available. The problem is the basis for selecting equivalents and the level of similarity related to the semantic field. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method with library research and quantitative research as support. Researchers used three data collection techniques, namely content analysis, questionnaires and interviews with 173 respondents. Research findings show that aspects of accessibility include the field of morphology: difficulty finding basic words, the semantic field has difficulty finding equivalent words and graphics. About (52.75%), users prefer entries that are appropriate to the context, and (35.16%) prefer entries based on usage examples. The difficulty of using a bilingual Arabic-Indonesian dictionary is caused by language competency factors, both grammar and semantics, design factors including design, dictionary graphics. Then the intensity factor is around (60%) rarely using a dictionary. The results of the survey questionnaire on 91 users showed that (91.21%) felt that they needed training in using dictionaries, this was based on the role of dictionaries, which increased (65.93%) stated that dictionaries had a significant role in study activities. Solution, more than half 58.24% of users chose to switch to electronic dictionaries. So this phenomenon has an impact on users switching to using electronic dictionaries.

Abstract

Abstract:. This article discusses how the Bandasari Village Government plays an active role in improving community literacy through strengthening the Community Reading Park (TBM) and the Development of Reading Corners spread across various strategic points in the village at the Al-Bayum reading park and Village Library. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, this study reveals the strategies, policies, and social impacts of literacy practices based on village institutions. The results of the study indicate that the commitment of the village government in forming the institutional structure of TBM, allocation of village funds, and synergy with external partners are strong foundations in building a culture of community literacy. Abstract

Bahasa Inggris masih dianggap sebagai bahasa ketiga setelah bahasa persatuan Indonesia dan bahasa Ibu. Dalam kondisi saat ini, ketika berbagai daerah di seluruh dunia sudah terkoneksi ke dalam jaringan global, Bahasa Inggris mutlak dikuasai. Bahasa Inggris merupakan bahasa utama yang dapat menghubungkan seluruh warga dunia. Sebagai bahasa pengantar yang memudahkan terjadinya pertukaran berbagai potensi yang dimiliki sebuah desa, membuka peluang menumbuhkan minat warga dunia berkunjung, atau membuka kemungkinan investasi, atau bertransaksi membeli sumber kekayaan daerah. Karena itu, melalui kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat dosen Sastra Inggris Universitas Kebangsaan Republik Indonesia bertujuan untuk memberikan keterampilan berbahasa Inggris kepada pemuda yang tergabung dalam Karang Taruna dan Ibu-ibu anggota Pembinaan Kesejahteraan Keluarga (PKK) desa Sunten Jaya Lembang Kabupaten Bandung Barat. Kegiatan PkM dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode ceramah dan diskusi untuk memberikan pemahaman dan pengajaran yang tepat berkenaan dengan simbol-simbol Bahasa Inggris yang harus dipahami. Hasil yang diperoleh dari kegiatan ini adalah muncul kesadaran perlunya memiliki keterampilan berbahasa Inggris, agar dapat mempromosikan Sunten Jaya sebagai kawasan pertanian yang layak dijadikan sebagai destinasi wisata.DOI: https://doi.org/10.32897/abdimasusb.v4i1.2699

Abstract

Poem is one of the popular literary works that is loved by many people because of its beautiful language and the deep meaning of it. In poem, there are words or sentences that has a poetic meaning. Many poets write poems that have hidden or unreal meanings in it, and it is called figurative language. With figurative language applied in the poem, some people do not understand what the idea behind it. Therefore, this research aimed is to analyze the type of figurative language used in William Shakespeare’s poems and to reveal the function of figurative language dominantly used in William Shakespeare’s poems. The titles of the 7 William Shakespeare’s poems were “Shall I Compare Thee to A Summer’s Day?”, “Let Me Not to The Marriage of True Minds”, “Like as The Waves Make Towards the Pebbled Shore”, “When, In Disgrace with Fortune and Men’s Eyes”, “All the World’s Stage”, “That time of year thou mayst in me behold”, and “The Rape of Lucrece”.
