Abstract

Many academicians and practitioners have been acknowledging that information technology (IT) adoption could improve company performance. However, previous research indicates contradictory evidence. These inconsistencies can be attributed to variations among the studies in choosing proxy for IT adoption and due to contingent on other factors. This research aims at analyzing the influence of a contingent factor that is corporate governance (CG) concerning the effectiveness of IT adoption in influencing company performance measured by change in return on assets. Two proxies are used for IT adoption:  company expenses on IT and the level of the organization managing IT.  Data is collected and analyzed from annual reports of all banks listed in Indonesia Stock Exchange from 2011 to 2013. Multiple linear regression models are employed. This research shows that corporate governance practice could improve the effectiveness of IT adoption in improving company performance.  This research implies that better CG practices in providing direction and monitoring on IT can lead to better company performance.

Abstract

Government Regulation No. 12/2014 and Ministry of Forestry Regulation No. 92/Menhut-II/2014 about the types and rates of non-tax tariff from Ministry of Forestry are the underlying motivations to revitalize services in research and development through information technology (IT). Revitalization policy is expected to increase effectiveness, efficiency, value added, professionalism, governance, as well as avoid overlapping research on climate changes in forestry. Using gap and stakeholder analysis, it reveals that a set of technical and administrative tools such as an improved web design and various of SOPs for monitoring and evaluation of services are still needed. Stakeholder analysis through several focus group discussions also shows that there are many stakeholders who are promoters of revitalization that require intensive cooperation, followed by defenders who require periodical information. Stakeholder latent in this program is relatively very minimal. Observation in Centre for Climate Change and Policy Research and Development reveals that in the short term the number of users of services and activities of research and development after revitalization policy in September 2014 increased 143 and 400 percent compared to the same month in 2013, while in October 2013 increased by 300 and 500 percent, respectively compared to October 2014.

Abstract

Linguistic construction embodies information that is plausible to be modified in certain context when the speaker wants to emphasize on certain aspect. This is the nature of language users and the construction they produce. Each language is assumed to possess its own various ways of structuring the information spoken or written by the language user. English, for example, which is known as fixed word order language with SVO order has its various ways of structuring the information delivered by the speaker to the interlocutor. Preposing, postposing, and argument reversal are three best ways to indicate which information is prominent in the speaker’s mind so that the hearer will have the same concept as the speaker. Those are included as the alternative ways to construct sentence and propose syntactic choices to the speaker. Information structure has been one of the most intriguing fields of study involving both syntactic and pragmatic analyses. Hence, this paper aims at describing the noncanonical constructions in English and how they work to package information by using the interface of both disciplines.
