Abstract

Indonesia, as one of the world’s largest archipelagic countries, is highly prone to natural disasters due to its geological, geographical, and socio-demographic conditions. Despite various efforts from the government and related institutions, there remains a lack of an integrated technological solution that addresses the critical aspects of disaster management. This research aims to develop a mobile-based disaster management information system called Aksi Bencana Indonesia, featuring five integrated functions: real-time disaster information, donation facilitation, volunteer management, logistics coordination, and disaster education. The development process involved identifying functional and non-functional requirements through interviews with disaster mitigation experts and literature studies, followed by UI/UX design using Figma, and coding using Flutter for the frontend and Laravel for the backend. User Acceptance Testing (UAT) was conducted with participants aged 18–55 to evaluate the system’s usability and effectiveness. The results showed that the application met the users’ expectations in providing timely and reliable information, facilitating donations and volunteer coordination, and supporting educational initiatives. Moreover, the integration of real-time features improved response time and enhanced the efficiency of resource distribution during disaster events. This study concludes that the application successfully bridges the gap between communities, donors, and volunteers, offering a practical solution for disaster preparedness and response. Future research may focus on expanding the system’s interoperability with national disaster databases and enhancing the analytics dashboard for better decision-making.

Abstract

Information retrieval systems are vital for disease prediction, but traditional methods like TF-IDF struggle with word meanings and produce long, complex vectors. This research uses Large Language Models (LLMs) and follows the CRISP-DM methodology to improve accuracy. Using health forum discussions labeled with specific diseases, we split the data into queries and a corpus. Semantic similarity is used to retrieve the most relevant text from the corpus. After preprocessing, we compare LLMs and TF-IDF, with LLMs achieving an accuracy of 0.911 (Top-K=30), outperforming TF-IDF. LLMs excel by creating shorter, meaningful vectors that preserve context, enabling precise semantic matching. These results demonstrate LLMs' potential to enhance healthcare information retrieval, offering more accurate and context-aware solutions. This research highlights how advanced AI can overcome traditional methods' limitations, opening new possibilities for medical informatics.

Abstract

This study examines market women’s access to and utilisation of breast cancer prevention information in Ikoka Market, Awka, Anambra State. Adopting a qualitative research approach, in-depth interviews were conducted with 32 market women, selected based on data saturation principles. The findings reveal a high level of awareness of breast cancer but limited knowledge of specific preventive measures. Healthcare facilities, particularly antenatal and postnatal clinics, were identified as the primary sources of information, while mass media played a minimal role. Despite awareness, the utilisation of preventive practices such as breast self-examinations and screenings remained low due to financial constraints, low literacy levels, fear, and economic activities. The study highlights the gap between awareness and actionable knowledge, underlining the need for targeted, community-based interventions. It recommends mobile screening units, simplified health messages, and the integration of breast cancer education into market associations and social gatherings to enhance participation and accessibility.
