Abstract

To adequately respond to frequent requests for information, school management needs an appropriate system and protocol to validate and promptly analyze collected data to support decision-making. The Educational Management Information System (EMIS) is a database designed to ensure that educational data are accurately analyzed, to inform decisions and suggest solutions. EMIS encapsulates ICT applications that facilitate data collection, assembly, storage, and analysis, thereby easing school management decisions. This study, therefore, investigated the relevance of EMIS to staff and student record keeping and processing in secondary schools. Using a descriptive research design, data were collected via questionnaire from 100 students across five secondary schools in Badagry, Lagos State, and analyzed using Chi-Square tests. The findings revealed no significant relationship between an administrator’s gender or department and their managerial skills in record keeping and processing. Similarly, the physical location for saving records (computer lab vs. cabinet) showed no significant effect on processing efficiency. Key challenges identified include but not limited to inadequate resources, poor infrastructure, and negative attitudes among stakeholders.  The study concludes that while EMIS has the potential to improve management decisions in planning, staffing, and coordination, its effective implementation in the studied context is hindered by the aforementioned challenges. Practical recommendations include the urgent provision of EMIS infrastructure, targeted training for record officers, and initiatives to improve stakeholder attitudes towards systematic data management.

Abstract

Universitas Proklamasi 45 Yogyakarta is a private university which is supervised by a Foundation that has implemented various information systems in various fields of work. However, in the payroll process of the employees are still done manually and have not utilized a computerized system, such as attendance recap, wage recapitulation that is additional salary to basic salary, and the sum of salary received by employees. This makes the payroll process less effective and efficient. This study aims to establish a proposed system that is a web-based information system of employee payroll in the Universitas Proklamasi 45 Yogyakarta with the PHP programming language using Codeigniter Framework and MySQL as its database. The system development method used is the Extreme Programming method. This method was chosen because it promotes intense communication between the client and the system developer so that when there are changes or errors in the system, the developer is always ready to fix it. Extreme Programming also has a simple stage, namely planning, design, coding, and testing. The results of this study are the result of a web-based employee payroll information system that has various actors involved in the management and processing of its data. With this information system, the employee payroll process becomes more effective and efficient, because payroll data is processed and calculated by the system so that it has a high level of data accuracy and does not require a long time in the calculation process.

Abstract

This study examines the influence of work discipline and the utilization of information technology on the effectiveness of public services at the East Pasimasunggu Subdistrict Office, Selayar Islands Regency. Public service delivery in archipelagic regions faces structural challenges, including geographical dispersion, limited infrastructure, and uneven human resource capacity. A quantitative approach was employed using census sampling, involving all 38 administrative staff as respondents. Data were collected through structured questionnaires, observation, and documentation, and analyzed using multiple linear regression. The results indicate that both work discipline and information technology utilization have a positive and significant effect on public service effectiveness, both partially and simultaneously. Work discipline emerges as the dominant factor, reflecting the importance of punctuality, rule compliance, and responsibility in ensuring consistent service delivery. Meanwhile, the utilization of information technology contributes to improved efficiency, accuracy, and service speed, although its implementation remains constrained by technical and competency limitations. The coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.713 suggests that 71.3% of the variation in public service effectiveness is explained by the two independent variables, while the remaining 28.7% is influenced by other factors. These findings highlight the need for strengthening employee discipline and enhancing digital capabilities to optimize public service performance, particularly in geographically challenging regions.

Abstract

Post-disaster conditions often cause disruption to sanitation systems and clean water distribution, which can increase the risk of environmental-based diseases and reduce the quality of life of affected communities. In many cases, the management of sanitation and clean water distribution is still carried out manually, leading to inefficiencies, data inaccuracies, and lack of coordination. This community service activity aims to develop and implement a web-based information system to support sanitation management and clean water distribution in post-disaster areas. The method used includes system development using a prototype approach, training for village officials and volunteers, and evaluation based on distribution efficiency, data accuracy, and user satisfaction. The results show that the system improves the efficiency of clean water distribution, enhances data accuracy, and facilitates real-time monitoring of sanitation conditions. The main contribution of this activity is the provision of a digital-based model for sanitation and water management that is applicable at the village level to support effective, transparent, and sustainable disaster management. However, limitations include dependence on internet infrastructure and user readiness.

Abstract

Despite various promotional programmes, STAIN Jember has not seen a significant annual increase in new student enrolment, suggesting suboptimal use of mass media in its socialisation processes. Drawing on communication theory and information diffusion models, this study investigates the volume of information received by prospective students, their information sources, the media channels used, and existing barriers. A survey was conducted, distributing questionnaires to 600 senior high school students across Jember, Situbondo, and Banyuwangi, selected through proportional cluster sampling. The findings reveal that although prospective students actively use television, radio, newspapers, and the internet to meet their information needs, STAIN Jember remains heavily reliant on brochures and banners, with 63% of respondents never having received an enrolment brochure. Furthermore, 57.2% expressed interest in enrolling, yet 64.5% never actively sought information about the institution, indicating a critical information gap. The study concludes that ineffective socialisation, limited use of mass media, and a lack of student involvement in campus activities exacerbate this asymmetry. It is recommended that STAIN Jember establish formal collaborations with the Department of Religious Affairs and the Department of Education, optimise multi-channel media strategies, and involve high school students in campus events to enhance information accessibility and institutional appeal.

Abstract

The rapid proliferation of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has fundamentally transformed human interaction, cognition, and psychological well-being globally. In developing nations like Afghanistan, this transformation carries unique socio-cultural complexities that remain largely understudied. This study investigates the psychological impact of ICT usage on human behavior and mental health among students at Kabul University, Afghanistan. A mixed-methods approach was adopted, combining a structured questionnaire survey (n = 320) administered to undergraduate and postgraduate students with semi-structured interviews (n = 30). Validated instruments including the Internet Addiction Test (IAT), the Generalized Anxiety Disorder scale (GAD-7), and the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) were employed. Quantitative data were analyzed using SPSS v.26, applying descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, and multiple regression. Thematic analysis was conducted for qualitative data. Findings revealed that 38.4% of respondents exhibited moderate to severe internet addiction symptoms. Significant positive correlations were found between excessive ICT use and levels of anxiety (r = 0.61, p < 0.01) and depression (r = 0.54, p < 0.01). Qualitative themes indicated that ICT facilitated academic learning and social connectivity, while simultaneously contributing to sleep disturbance, social isolation, and reduced attention span. ICT exerts a dual influence on mental health at Kabul University   offering educational and communicative benefits while posing significant psychological risks, particularly for heavy users. Institutional interventions, digital literacy programs, and mental health support services are urgently recommended.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of pharmacists' quality in explaining drug side effects in building pharmacy brand reputation and shaping buyers' confidence to reuse the same service. The research employs a qualitative literature study with a content analysis approach, drawing upon various relevant scholarly sources. The findings indicate that explanations of side effects delivered patiently, clearly, and using language comprehensible to patients create feelings of safety and value. These impressions leave a lasting impact that is subsequently shared with others, organically building brand reputation. Each satisfactory interaction regarding side effect explanations reinforces patients' conviction that the pharmacy is the appropriate destination for future visits. This confidence evolves into loyalty that withstands the allure of lower prices or promotions from competing pharmacies. Pharmacists' professionalism in communicating medication risks yields a dual benefit: protecting patients from medical harm while simultaneously safeguarding the pharmacy business from competition. The practical implications of this study underscore the necessity of prioritizing communication training for pharmacists, developing consistent operational standards, and recognizing that every patient interaction constitutes a long-term investment in brand reputation.
