Abstract

ABSTRACT             This research is entitled “Simbol-simbol tangan di komunitas Pelayanan Mahasiswa Pantekosta (Suatu analisis semiotika)”. is focused on symbols that can be found in almost all aspects of human life. In this category, symbols are used on Pentecostal community. The aims of this research are to identify and classify kinds of symbol and to analyze and describe meaning of symbol that can be found in Pentecostal student community. The writer uses Pierce theory (1955) about sign and symbols in the process of identifying and classifying kinds of symbols and the process of analyzing and describing the meaning of symbols used in Pentecostal student services community. The data were collected in Sam Ratulangi University. The writer uses descriptive method to analyze the forms of symbols found in Pentecostal student services community activities in this research. The results of this research show that there are 13 symbols used in Pentecostal student services community. The writer clasissifies them into 2 parts; the first is general symbols, which consist of 2 symbols namely, Cross hand symbol, and greetings symbol. The second part is Komisariat symbols, which consist of 11 symbols, we are one symbol, two piece symbol, three symbol, bad odor symbol, Hand Money symbol, OK symbol, sevent symbol, hand strong symbol, Sarangaheo symbol, X symbol, K symbol. The meaning of the general symbols are to identity and as a union of all Pentecostal student services members. Abstract

ABSTRACTS Pragmatics is the study of the relations between language and context that are basic to an account of language understanding. The most obvious single way in which the relationship between language and context is reflected in the structures of the language themselves through the phenomenon of the deixis. The research questions of this investigation are what types of deixis are found in the film Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs and how the use of deixis in the film. The method used in the research is descriptive method. The data are identified and analyzed descriptively. The data are analyzed based on the theory of Levinson. The result shows that there are five types of deixis found in this film. Those are person deixis, place deixis, time deixis, discourse deixis, and social deixis, whereas the usages of deixis found in the film are symbolic and gestural usage. It is espected that this research will help the students and other readers to learn the pragmatic aspects, especially on deixis.   Keywords: Deixis, Film: Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs. Abstract

ABSTRACT                        This research is entitled “Kata Ganti Orang dalam Bahasa Inggris dan Bahasa Tonsea Suatu Analisis Kontrastif”. This research attempts to classify and analyze the Personal Pronoun in English and Tonsea Language and it is a research which focuses on syntactic analysis by looking at the case and function of personal pronoun. In classifying and analyzing the data, the researcher uses the theory of Aarts and Aarts (1982) and to contrast the data, she uses the theory of Lado (1975).            The results of this research show that English language have eight kinds of personal pronouns, namely: first person singular and plural, second person singular and plural, third person singular and plural. Third person singular is divided into three kinds those are: masculine, feminine, and netral. Tonsea language has six kinds of personal pronouns namely: first person singular and plural, second person singular and plural, third person singular and plural. The differences of both languages can be seen in third person singular. In English, third person singular is divided into three kinds by looking at the gender whereas in Tonsea is not. The position of the case in Tonsea language can be attached or separated after the noun and it can be a verb. Keywords: Syntax, Personal Pronoun, Case, Function, Contrastive Analysis: English,            Tonsea  Language.

Abstract

Abstrak Penulisan skripsi ini menggunakan metode sejarah, dengan langkah-langkah : Heuristik, kritik, interpretasi, historiografi. Data diperoleh melalui membaca literatur yang relevan dengan perumusan masalah yang telah ditetapkan, kemudian dilakukan penulisan sesuai dengan permasalahan yang telah dirumuskan dan tujuan yang akan dicapai. Dari hasil penggunan metode sejarah tersebut, maka diperoleh hasil penelitian perdagangan perempuan di Kota Manado adalah sebagai berikut : (1) faktor yang paling utama timbulnya perdagangan perempuan di Kota Manado yaitu adalah faktor kemiskinan, seorang wanita yang terlahir dari keluarga yang tidak mampu menggunakan segala cara untuk memenuhi kebutuhan hidupnya dengan cara mudah mendapatkan uang. (2). Dalam setiap tahun perkembangan kasus perdagangan perempuan di Kota Manado, sering mengalami pergerakan yang sangat jelah. Seperti pada tahun 2008 jumlah korban perdagangan perempuan sebnayak 24 orang dan tersangkanya jauh lebih tinggi yaitu sebanyak 30 orang.

Abstract

ABSTRACT  This research has a title “ Kalimat Imperatif dalam Bahasa Inggris dan Bahasa Saluan” and focuses on the types, functions, similarities, and differences of imperative sentences on English and Saluan language. The research questions are: what are the types and functions, and what are the similarities and differences of imperative sentences in English and Saluan language.   The data in English were collected from some English grammar books and data in Saluan language were taken from ten informants who know well about Saluan language using the interview method. After collecting the data, the writer identified and classified the imperative sentences in English and Saluan language. Then the data were analysed using contrastive analysis method, which means that the writer contrasted the data between English and Saluan language to find out the similarities, and differences. There are two types of imperative sentences in English and Saluan language, namely positive and negative imperative sentences. In terms of function, the imperative sentences both in English and Saluan Language have function as command, wish, invitation, instruction and warning. Though the imperative sentences in English and Saluan language have similarities, these languages show differences in terms of the use of words which are related to the socio-cultural aspects.  Keywords: Imperative sentence, English Saluan language, Contrastive analysis.

Abstract

ABSTRACT          This research entitled Formula Fantasi Yang Tercermin dalam Film Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire (2005) is written to fulfill the requirement of accomplishing bachelor’s degree in English Department Faculty of Humanities Sam Ratulangi University. The focus of this research is Fantasy Formula in the film. The problem of this research is focusing on what are the fantasy formula is and how the reflection of fantasy formula as reflected in the film Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire (2005). The writer used theory from Cawelti (1976) and Snyder (2011) to analyze the fantasy formula. Abstract

ABSTRACT This skripsi entitled suffix –ing in journal “English Teaching Forum” : a  Syntactical Analysis. The -Ing form is neutral with respect to time; the time that is intended often depends on the tense or the meaning of the main verb. The suffix -ing is often used loosely instead of the perfect form of the gerund object of verbs. The suffix -ing of a verb can be used as a present participle, Frank (1972: 315). This research aims at identifying, classifying, and analyzing, the suffix -ing used in journal “English Teaching Forum” in terms of forms and functions. The data of the suffix -ing were collected from journal article chapter 1-5 based on Arts and Arts’s (1982: 167), Lado’s (2008: 24-62), Quirk. et al’s., (1972: 242: 246) and Phillips’s (2000: 117)’s theories. In analyzing the data in terms of forms and function, the concept of Arts and Arts (1982: 167), were used. The method of this research is descriptive qualitative method. The results of this research show that the suffix -ing used in the sentences of the journal “English Teaching Forum are various namely : suffix -ing as present continuous tense (3 data), past continuous tense (1data), gerund (9 data), reduced clause (6 data), -ing form as adjective (25 data) and -ing form as clauses that have an explicit subject and non explicit subject (21 data ). Furthermore the -ing forms have three functions: as verb, noun and as adjective. The study results show that the –Ing form functioning as adjective is the most used in the journal articles mentioned.   Key Words: The suffix -ing, Journal : English Teaching Forum

IMPLEMENTASI PERMAINAN-PERMAINAN EDUKATIF BAGI ANAK-ANAK BERKEBUTUHAN KHUSUS: STUDI KASUS DI SMP-LB FINJIL KOTA BITUNGChristi I. Timban[1]Golda J. Tulung[2]Maya P. Warouw[3] ABSTRACT The research is entitled “Implementasi Permainan-permainan Edukatif Terhadap Anak-anak Berkebutuhan Khusus: Studi Kasus di SMP-LB Finjil Kota Bitung”. The educational games that are used in this research are Bingo alphabet, Charades, and Weather Exchange board game.This research is aimed at: (1) describing the implementation of the educational games and how they influence the students according to Bloom’s taxonomy, (2) finding and analyzing the effects that emerge during the implementation of the games based on students’ reactions and teacher’s opinion. The writer uses Case Study method to describe deeply about the implementation of these three games in SMP-LB Finjil kota Bitung. Furthermore, the writer tries to discover the phenomenon in implementing the educational games that include bingo alphabet, charades, and exchange weather board game in SMP-LB Finjil kota Bitung.The findings of this research are: (1) the students can enhance their English skills integratedly through the educational games; (2) these three educational games have some values that are suitable in Bloom’s taxonomy that make these games more decent to be brought as the media of English lesson in the class for students with special needs; (3) there are some themes that emerge through the implementation of the games. First, the learning style that fit the students: kinesthetic and audio style. Second, the motivation and student’s background that affect the progress of each students. Abstract

ABSTRACT   This study which is entitled “Figurative Language in Carl Sandburg Poems” focusing on the use of a figurative language and categorize it accordance with the types and describe the meaning of figurative language itself. The writer chooses five poems which have interesting titles and famous works of Carl Sandburg and using content analysis method with intrinsic approach to gain an understanding of the meaning of figurative language in each poem. The purpose of this study was to identify and categorize the types of figurative language and analyzing and explaining the meaning of figurative language used Carl Sandburg in his poems. This study uses the theory of Perrine (1983: 576-645), in his book “Literature, Structure, Sound and Sense”. According to Perrine, figurative language is a way to express something beyond the usual way. In his book also describes the types of figurative language such as personification, metaphors, similes, symbols, synecdoche, metonymy, and hyperbole. The results of the study can be summarized as follows : first, in the poems of Carl Sandburg, there are seven types of figurative language, including : personification, metaphor, symbol, similitude, metonymy, hyperbole, and synecdoche. The metaphors and personification types dominate every poem of Carl Sandburg. Second, the meaning of figurative language used by Carl Sandburg in his poems in general described the poet’s admiration of the existence and role of the people and the relationship between the people and the government in a city or country. Abstract

ABSTRACT This study which is entitled “Ketidakfasihan Berbicara Para Pemeran dalam Serial Film Harry Potter Enam dan Tujuh (Suatu Analisis Psikolinguistik)” is an attempt to identify the types of speech disfluencies of the characters in the serial films Harry Potter Six and Seven and to analyze the causes of those speech disfluencies. In classifying and analyzing the collected data, the writer uses Fox-Three (1995) and MacGregor’s (2008) theory about the types of speech disfluencies, and Bortfeld’s et al. (2001) theory of what cause the speech disfluencies. It is found that five types of speech disfluencies are produced by the characters in the Serial Films Harry Potter Six and Seven. That types are, silent pause, filled pause, repetition, repair, and lexical filler. Repetitions is the types of disfluencies are the most founded because of the increase  in cognitive process that results to a heavy planning in utterances. The causes of speech disfluencies of the characters in serial films Harry Potter Six and Seven are by variables such as, cognitive load, communication medium, topic under discussion, addressee characteristic, speaker characteristic, as well as social and situational factors. It is because we encounter those variables in almost every time. Age is not found to cause of speech disfluencies in the serial films Harry Potter because as there aren’t many older people characters in the serial films. This study will help students and the next researchers in expanding their knowledge about speech disfluencies and language production.   Keywords: Speech Disfluencies, Harry Potter Films, Psycholinguistic Analysis
