Abstract

AbstractThe aim of this research is to describe the representation of solving problem in sequence based on the level of students’ abilities. This research used the qualitative research method with descriptive type. The subject of this research is determined by the result of the pre-requisite knowledge test and interview. The result of this research shows that, in solving problems in sequence, students with high ability use verbal, visual, and symbolic representation. Students with high ability use four steps of problem solving to obtain correct answer. Student with average ability only use verbal and symbolic representation. Student with average ability do not apply the look back step in one of the problems. On the other hand, student with low ability, use verbal, visual, and symbolic representation. In solving problem, student with low ability do not apply the look back step in two problems, and the answer obtained are wrong.

Abstract

The ability of geometry is an aspect that underlies students to solve geometry problems. Several studies have stated students' difficulties in learning geometry. There are five levels of expansion of Van Hiele's theory, namely level 0, level 0.5, level 1, level 1.5, and level 2 which are used to measure the geometry abilities of junior high school students. Students' low geometry skills can be improved through scaffolding, so an appropriate scaffolding design is needed. This study aims to describe the appropriate scaffolding design based on the geometry ability test of junior high school students in terms of the expansion of Van Hiele's theory. The research subjects in this study consisted of 3 students of class VIII of SMP Negeri 8 Malang divided into 3 different levels of geometry ability, namely level 0, 0.5, and 1. Data collection methods consisted of written tests and interviews. The results showed that students at level 1 needed scaffolding to be able to connect the properties between quadrilateral shapes. Students at level 0.5 require scaffolding in the form of conceptual understanding of prerequisite materials. While students at level 0 need scaffolding to minimize the prototype phenomenon.

Abstract

This study describes the inductive reasoning  of high school students in solving geometry transformation problems. The steps of inductive reasoning in mathematics namely: (1) discussing pattern that occur, (2) making guesses about general patterns that might apply, (3) making generalizations, (4) proving generalizations deductively. The assesment used in this study is descriptive qualitative. The data source is the result of a geometry transformation test involving 35 students grouped by ability are high, intermediate and low. Then select 3 students who represent each group. The results of this study are high ability students can perform all streps of inductive reasoning and the answer given are appropriate, capable students are able to take all the steps but  still make some fault in generalizaton step, low ability student can analyze data only and  can not interpret mathematical symbols.

Abstract

High Order Thinking Skil (HOTS) type questions have been applied to National Exams so the efforts to improve  students’ thinking skills at a higher level are continued. This research is a qualitative research which aims to describe the ability of students to solve HOTS type problems in term of the stages of Polya solving. Thus research was conducted in SMK Telkom Malang in the odd semester of 2019/2020 school year. The reasearch subjects in this article were 12th grade students on statistical material. The results of this study indicate that high ability students are able to complete all stages of problem solving polya, capable students are able to understand problems, but are less able to make plans, do the plans and look at the results. The low ability students are less able to do all of the stages in problem solving polya well.

Abstract

this research focus of describing the skill of metacognitive experience student of mathematic learning in elementary school of kotalama 1 malang. Description the skill of metacognitive experience about character for metacognitive feelings dan metacognitive judgment student. Research of procedur used is with do observation, documentation, then interview. Research for subject  what index finger that is student grade IV B as many as 5 people with character is different. Research of result acquisition that is metacognitive feelings student still not yet appear, metacognitive judgment student no happen because there is connect between metacognitive feelings with judgment. Beside it’s, feelings for student can acquisition because there is support principle of learn from around area. Method of teach by teacher so influence character for metacognitive feelings and metacognitive judgment student.

Abstract

21st century human competence is creativity and innovation, communication and collaboration, as well as critical thinking and problem solving. Critical thinking skills need to be possessed by students. Students who have the ability to think critically will tend to respect and respect others. These characteristics are very important for future generations to live in the modern world. One learning that is expected to be able to train and improve critical thinking skills is inquiry-based learning. Inquiry-based learning is a learning process by formulating questions, processing ideas, exploring and evaluating information, analyzing data, and finding relationships and conclusions. Inquiry-based learning emphasizes the process of thinking critically and analytically to seek and find their own solutions to a proposed problem. Inquiry-based learning involves students actively seeking answers to questions or problems. In this case the writer refers to the inquiry training developed by Richard Suchman. The existence of inquiry-based learning is expected to motivate and direct learning that is oriented towards increasing critical thinking skills.

Abstract

This purpose of the study  is to s describe  mathematic problem solving based kognitif style and gendre. This research with qualitative approach. The subject is a man student with field independent cognitif style (FIL) and a woman student with field independent cognitif style (FIP) and a man student with field dependent cognitif style (FDL) and a woman student with field dependent cognitif style (FDP). The result of the study  shows: (1) in understanding step, (2) in devising a plan step, (3) in carrying out the plan step, FIL and FIP students are categorized very good  because they had fulfilled two indicators of Polya, and (4) in looking back step, FIL student are categorized very good and student FIP are categorized enough because  fulfilled one of the two indicators. for student FDL and FDP  1) in understanding step, (2) in devising a plan step, (3) in carrying out the plan step, FDL and FDP students are categorized very good  because they had fulfilled two indicators of Polya, and (4) in looking back step, FDL and FDP students are categorized bad because they had not fulfilled the two indicators. Keywords: Problem Solving, Field Independent, gendre

Abstract

This research development aims to produce a learning device characterized by valid guided discoveries. The development of learning tools refers to the Thiagarajan, Semmel, and Semmel (1974) model, which is the development of Four-D, which is modified into Three-D. This development model consists of 3 stages of development, namely define, desig, and develop. Assessment of the quality of learning tools in this study consisted of evaluating validity. Learning tools are said to be valid if according to the judgment of experts and practitioners have content validity and construct validity. From the development results obtained learning tools (learning media, lesson plans, and mastery test material) quadratic function material characterized by guided discoveries, can be categorized valid. Based on the results of the development of learning tools obtained that the learning tools (learning media, lesson plans, and mastery tests of materials) are categorized valid in a row that is 3.05; 3.1; 3.1 and have met the specified criteria. Keywords: development, learning tools, guided discovery, quadratic functions

Abstract

Mathematics is not only related about how to solve problems and provide conclusions, but also as a tool to communicate ideas clearly, precisely and briefly. Through mathematical communication, the teacher can see students'abilities in solving problems. The purpose of this research is to describe the mathematical errors of reflective student communication in solving open-ended problems. The research subjects consisted of 5 students of Boyolangu 1 Junior High School who had reflective cognitive style. Data collection is done by combining the results of data of  mathematical communication test and interviews. The mathematical communication test given is related to triangles and quadrilateral material. Test results were analyzed using mathematical communication indicators, namely: (1) giving clear responses, (2) making diagrams / sketches, (3) communicating mathematical ideas effectively to others, and (4) presenting logical arguments that support answers. The results of data analysis show that students only write some of the completeness of the answers, students are completeless in writing the size of a sketch, students have not conveyed mathematical ideas using complete sentences, and students have not been able to make logical arguments to support students' answers. Keywords: Mathematical communication, reflective cognitive style, open-ended
