Abstract

This study describes the application of guided discovery which improves students' mathematical reasoning in the Linear Program material. This study uses a qualitative approach with the type of Classroom Action Research (PTK). This PTK is implemented in Class XI TPM 3 SMKN 1 Madiun. The application of guided discovery is carried out in four stages. Introduction and Review, namely the teacher conditions students to be ready to learn by conveying learning objectives, explaining the benefits, and reminding the prerequisite material. The Open Stage, in which the teacher sets the group, then the students observe the examples, ask questions, and write down the characteristics of the concept based on the observations. Convergent Stage, where the teacher presents the problem, then students make assumptions, collect information, perform mathematical manipulation, conclude problem solving, re-examine problem solving, and present the results of the discussion. Closing and application, namely the teacher emphasizes important things, the teacher guides students to make conclusions and reflects, then the students work on the quiz. The results showed an increase in students' mathematical reasoning abilities in solving Linear Program problems. Students also gave positive responses to guided discovery learning. Keywords: guided discovery, mathematical reasoning, Linear Program

Abstract

Indonesia's PISA test results in the last three periods still rank in the bottom ten. This shows that the mathematics ability of Indonesian students is still low. This research aims to explore the higher order thinking processes experienced by junior high school students in solving PISA questions before and during scaffolding. This research was conducted at SMP Negeri 3 Singosari, Malang Regency, in the form of giving tests to 31 students of class IX, interviews and scaffolding. Scaffolding is done in order to complete the unfulfilled aspects in the phases of thinking. From this research, it was found that: (1) The high-level thinking process of students in solving PISA questions, before scaffolding has included the three phases that must be passed (the entry phase, the attack phase, and the review phase), but not all aspects of each phase are fulfilled; (2) Scaffolding has helped students in solving PISA questions. Improve the teacher's ability to do scaffolding to help students find aha! with more attention to the obstacles (stuck?) faced by students

Abstract

Sequence and series have been taught directly through theory from books, making it difficult for students to link between concepts or between theories, so that there are still many students who can only solve problems limited to what has been exemplified by the teacher. This study aims to describe the application of hypothetical inquiry learning that can increase student activity and understand the sequence and series material. This research is a classroom action research conducted in April 2017. The research subjects were 38 students of class X IPA 5 SMAN 8 Malang. The results showed that applying hypothetical inquiry in learning could increase student activity and learning completeness. The increase in student activity from 11% in cycle I to 63% active criteria in cycle II, the percentage of students completing in cycle I, namely 63%, increased to 92% in cycle II.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to analyze the need for developing HOTS-based mathematics teaching materials that are integrated with religion in MTs. The results of this research will later become the basis for developing religious-integrated HOTS teaching materials. The analysis stage refers to the Analyze stage in the ADDIE development model. The data collection technique was carried out by distributing questionnaires to 16 MTs mathematics teachers. This research shows that the majority of MTs mathematics teachers complain that the teaching materials are monotonous, less varied and not HOTS-based. The majority of mathematics learning that has been applied is with a scientific approach and applies 21st century learning. So far, when teaching mathematics, teachers use books, worksheets, modules, props and learning videos. Not all learning resources have been used by HOTS-based teachers. The majority of learning resources used by teachers have not been integrated with religion. The advantages of existing learning resources are that the material is complete, contextual, structured and uses a scientific approach. However, there are still shortcomings, including not being integrated with religious subjects due to the limitations of teachers regarding the knowledge of integrating mathematics subjects with material on religion, not implementing HOTS much and not being able to make students learn independently actively. From these results, it can be concluded that it is necessary to develop religious integrated HOTS- based mathematics teaching materials for MTs students.

Abstract

Metacognition is an important aspect in problem solving. This study aims to describe the students' metacognitive activity in solving the problem of building a flat side with a qualitative approach. The research subjects were three students of MTSN Malang 1 with good communication skills in the categories of high, medium, and low mathematical abilities. Data collection was done by giving the problem of flat side space and interviews. In the problem understanding phase, students perform metacognitive awareness when they rethink a given problem marked by rereading the problem by considering and monitoring things that are important to solve the problem. In the planning phase, students perform metacognitive regulation when they rethink the ways that have been linked to previous learning experiences marked by considering clues to problems that have been connected to the learning experience. In the phase of implementing the plan, students carry out metacognitive evaluations when they think back about the solution that is being worked on by changing and correcting the image that is being made and determining another more appropriate way. In the re-examination phase, students carry out metacognitive evaluation and awareness when they rethink the solutions that have been made marked by rereading the problem and checking the completion from the beginning to the end and convincing themselves that the solutions made are correct.
