Abstract

Individuals with positive self-esteem recognize their personal qualities. They feel comfortable, optimistic, and confident about themselves. Conversely, individuals with negative self-esteem tend to experience poor quality of life. This study examines the effectiveness of logotherapy in increasing self-esteem. We conducted a meta-analysis by collecting and reviewing 14 research articles on logotherapy and self-esteem. We analyzed the data from the selected articles based on the number of participants (N), the average value (M), and the standard deviation (SD). The meta-analysis showed that logotherapy is a recommended and effective intervention to increase self-esteem.   Keywords: logotherapy, meta-analysis, self-esteem

Abstract

Teenagers are vulnerable to experiencing an identity crisis. This crisis encourages some adolescents to externalize their problems by engaging in deviant behaviors. One factor that drives externalizing problems in adolescents is their perception of their father’s involvement. This study aims to determine the role of adolescents’ perception of their father’s involvement in their externalizing problems. The participants in this study were 498 Muhammadiyah Middle School students in several cities in East Java who were selected based on a simple random sampling technique. Adolescents’ perception of their father’s involvement inversely predicted their externalizing problems. Adolescents with a higher perception of their father’s involvement tended to have lower externalizing problems. Keywords: adolescents, father’s involvement, externalizing problem

The present study examines the effectiveness of the interpersonal psychotherapy approach against depression by conducting a meta-analysis. Specifically, we investigated 12 international articles involving 848 participants. Data analysis took account the number of participants (N), mean (M), and standard deviation (SD) of the post-treatment results for the experimental (treated with interpersonal psychotherapy) and control groups (did not receive treatment or treated by other therapies). The results showed the effectiveness of interpersonal psychotherapy in reducing depression. Keywords: depression, interpersonal psychotherapy, meta-analysis

Abstract

Building positive teaching is paramount to increasing learning effectiveness, especially for new students. Students face many problems transitioning from high school to the university (e.g., boredom, low motivation, adaptation process, etc.). Self-Development Courses using project-based learning and positive teaching can become the answer to these challenges. This research aims to develop a Self-Development course module based on the positive teaching paradigm. We employed the research and development approach by defining, designing, and developing the course module. We planned the course activities based on the semester’s learning plan (e.g., self-introduction activities and teaching contracts, “who am I,” strengths and weaknesses, teamwork, etc.). We tested the validity of the module using Aiken’s V. Aiken V results ranged from 0.58 to 0.83, meaning that each activity in the proposed module was valid. Keywords: positive teaching, student, active learning, self-development

Abstract

The executive function determines whether individuals can perform goal-oriented behaviors. The critical developmental processes of executive function occur during the preschool years. The Covid-19 pandemic increases stress among children and their caregivers. Which consequently hamper the children’s executive function development. The present study examines the development of executive function among preschoolers (2 to 5 years, N = 92) during the Covid-19 pandemic. The results showed that about 12 percent of the sample had developmental problems in their executive function, particularly regarding their emergent metacognition. Children with this developmental problem would find difficulties in initiating, planning, and solving problems independently. Keywords: executive function, preschool children, pandemic, covid-19, child development
