Abstract

This study aimed to foster student creativity through the use of student worksheet based on Project Base Learning (PjBL) on dynamic electrical material in making alternative power sources. The research method is using a pre-experimental design with One-Shot case study type. The study population was students of class IX MTs Al-Islah in Pesawaran Lampung. A sample of one class consisting  of 30 people was obtained by purposive sumpling. Data analysis was done by using descriptive concerning creativity, product, and response of students to see effectiveness of learning. The results showed that the application of student worksheet based on project based learning is overall effective to foster creativity of student. Based on the average of student’s creativity, the result is 80% which categorized as “creative.” Based on the average of student’s product, the result is 76.2% which categorized as “valuable.” The student’s response is positive as much as 92% which categorized as “very agree.”

Abstract

The research aimed to describe the students’ mathematics problem-solving skill and self-regulation in SMP Negeri 8 Purwokerto used Miles and Huberman’s model of cover reduction, serve, and conclusion. The data source of this research were eight graders of class F by using purposive sampling. The students grouped into three categories according to the mid-term result. The categories were: high, mediocre, and low scores. The data was collected using tests, questionnaire, interview, and documentation. This research concluded that the students’ mathematics problem-solving skill from those three categories was different. The high score students’ group had a better problem-solving skill compared to the students in the mediocre or the low categories. However, the self-regulation from these three groups did not have a significant difference. It was still at the developing level. Thus, it could be concluded that the students’ self-regulation did not affect the ability to solve mathematical problems.

Abstract

The aims of this research to determine the effect of Think Talk Write (TTW) and Think Pair Share (TPS) model with Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach viewed from mathematical-logical intelligence. This research employed the quasi experimental research. The population of research was all students of the eight graders of junior high school in Karangamyar Regency in academic year 2016/2017. The result of this research shows that (1) TTW with RME approach gave better mathematics achievement than TPS with RME approach, (2) Students with high mathematical-logical intelligence can reach a better mathematics achievement than those with average and low, whereas students with average mathematical-logical intelligence can reach a better achievement than those with low one, (3) In TTW model with RME approach, students with high mathematical-logical intelligence can reach a better mathematics achievement than those with average and low, whereas students with average and low mathematical-logical intelligence gave same mathematics achievement, and  in TPS model with RME approach students with high mathematical-logical intelligence can reach a better mathematics achievement than those with average and low, whereas students with average mathematical-logical intelligence can reach a better achievement than those with low one (4) In each category of  mathematical-logical intelligence, TTW with RME approach and TPS with RME approach gave same mathematics achievement.

Abstract

Mathematics is one of the lessons in school. Starting from elementary school, junior high school, senior high school, even college. Mathematics is abstract and identic with numbers, so the author guessed that maybe this is the reason why students consider that mathematics is a difficult lesson. In fact, the learners deliver the material step by step. First, the teacher introduced something concrete to the students (related to the surrounding environment). After that, teacher introduced something more abstract to the students. Sometimes, the transition from concrete to abstract become the problem in the learning process. One of the materials that convert concrete to abstract is systems of linear equations in 8th grade because in this stage students are introduced to more coefficients and variables. This article will discuss how to use media in the form of BBC (Box, Board, and Comics) on systems of linear equations. This research is about Research and Development (R &D). The procedures of comics followed the ADDIE model which included analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. This research aims to create a valid media based on the validation by the and students’ responses which can be proven that BBC (Box, Board, and Comics) media are interesting and worthy to use in the classroom.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to know the effect of Brain Based Learning (BBL) with a contextual approach to mathematics achievement. BBL-contextual is the learning model that designed to develop and optimize the brain ability for getting a new concept and solving the real life problem. This study method was a quasi-experiment. The population was the junior high school students. The sample chosen by using stratified cluster random sampling. The sample was 109 students. The data collected through a mathematics achievement test that was given after the treatment. The data analyzed by using one way ANOVA. The results of the study showed that BBL-contextual is better than direct learning on mathematics achievement. It means BBL-contextual could be an effective and innovative model.

Abstract

In astronomy, there are three types of dawn. They are astronomical, nautical, and civil dawn. The sunlight is starting to appear on the east horizon when the Sun altitude is 18o below the horizon. Hence, there is a change on the sky brightness. The sky brightness can be affected by the moon phases. The sky brightness level is monitored by Sky Quality Meter (SQM). The SQM was installed upward to the zenith. There are 4 locations of measurement in Yogyakarta. The data has been collected for nine months to obtain the complete moon phases. The beginning of astronomical dawn is time when the sky brightness level is starting to decrease. The moving average algorithm was employed to determine the beginning of astronomical dawn. The time when the astronomical dawn begins is compared with the sun altitude calculation. The sun altitude calculation has been done using accurate times software. The difference of the beginning of astronomical dawn by measurement and calculation are 18.61±6.81 minutes, 19.12±3.28 minutes, 31.12±7.76 minutes, and 27.24±8.04 minutes, on the new moon (0), on the first quarter (0.25), on the full moon (0.5) and on the last quarter (0.75), respectively. The weather condition is also contributing to the results.

Abstract

This study is a Quasi Experimental study with the design of The Pretest-Post-Test Non-Equivalent Group Design. Population in this research is all student of class X SHS in South Jakarta. Sampling is done by purposive sampling, to obtain an experimental class and control class. In the experimental class, students learn with Treffinger learning model and control, class learning with conventional learning. This study is also to examine the differences of self-efficacy improvement and students literacy skills, and decreased students' mathematical anxiety. Also, this study also examines the relevance of early mathematical abilities (high, medium, low) with improving students' math literacy skills. The instrument used in this research is literacy skill test, self-efficacy scale, mathematical anxiety scale, observation sheet, and student interview. Data were analyzed by t-test, one-way ANOVA, and two lines. From the results of the data, it is found that: (1) The improvement of literacy ability of students who are learned with Treffinger model learning is not significantly higher than students who learn with conventional. (2) The self-efficacy of students who learning with the Treffinger model learning  is better than the student that is learning by conventional. (3) The mathematical anxiety of students learning with Treffinger model learning reduces better than students learning with conventional. (4) There is a difference in the improvement of students' mathematical literacy skills learning by learning the Treffinger model and students learning with conventional learning based on early mathematical abilities. (5) Student response to Treffinger model learning is better than students learning with conventional learning. Therefore, learning model Treffinger can be an alternative model of learning to improve students' mathematical literacy skills, and self-efficacy students, and able to reduce mathematical anxiety.

Abstract

Many of the public buildings are in conditions of distress due to deterioration and damage and require maintenance and rehabilitation to be able to function appropriately. On the contrary the government funding and budget allocated is limited. A systematic approach to overcome the problem is using setting up priority and optimize the resources allocation. Within a budget ceiling the what buildings components should be prioritized to achieve maximum profit and or surpass threshold is the ultimate goal of the decision maker and stakeholders. In this study, optimizing budget allocated for maintenance and rehabilitation of building components may be carried out by implementing knapsack algorithm within dynamic programming framework. The public junior high school 4 (SMPN 4) building was chosen as case study to apply the algorithm and determine the priority scale. The building is in Salatiga and suffers from some material deterioration as well as structural component degradation. The school building consists of three main sections namely, building itself, school yard, and school fence. To assess and evaluate damage based on the criteria set by Ministry of National Education, the building is divide into structures, architecture, and utilities. These components were divided into elements and sub elements. The structure was divided into the roof structure, super structure above the ground, and substructure (foundation). The damage condition of components and sub components of the building was then tabulated by assigning weights according to criteria set by office of education of Salatiga (Dinas Pendidikan Kota Salatiga, 2017)

Abstract

This paper introduced these Physics Educational Technology (PhET) Simulation and demonstrated their utility for Senior High School Students. The PhET simulations are very involved, interactive animated environments that create a unique opportunity for students. In each case, we demonstrate that discussion simulations are more productive, for developing student conceptual understanding  for photo electric effect than traditional discussion without simulations. During the discussion with PhET simulation, students can construct their  understanding about concepts photo electric effect within this framework. Students learn by building on their prior understanding through a series of constrained and supportives exploration. The simulations support an interactive approach and constrain students productively.
