Abstract

This article analyzes munākahāt hadiths in Fath al-Mun’im by Mūsā Shāhīn Lāshīn and his contribution to the reform of Islamic family law. While these hadiths are central in shaping legal thought, the interpretation has often remained literalist, producing a gap between normative texts and present socio-legal realities such as child marriage, women’s consent, and dowry inflation. Addressing this gap is crucial for developing a hadith-based framework that is responsive to contemporary challenges in Muslim family life. The study aims to examine how Lāshīn constructs legal reasoning on munākahāt and to evaluate the implications of his method for family law reform. Using a qualitative, library-based approach, it applies content analysis to the ten-volume Fath al-Mun’im, supported by classical fiqh and modern scholarship. Analytical lenses include maqasid al-shari’ah and the sociology of knowledge. The findings show that Lāshīn develops an integrative framework that harmonizes hadith authority with ethical priorities and social realities. He affirms women’s agency, critiques burdensome dowries, and classifies marriage rulings according to context. His approach, rooted in fiqh al-awlawiyyāt and comparative madhhab analysis, offers not only a moderate and contextual model of hadith-based ijtihād but also practical guidance for policymakers in shaping equitable and sustainable Islamic family law.

Abstract

This article critically examines the concept of nasakh (abrogation) in the Qur’an, with a particular focus on cases where a ruling is interpreted as being abrogated without a clearly defined substitute (nasakh bilā badal). Rather than understanding such cases as definitive cancellations, this study proposes that they should be read through the framework of al-tadarruj fi al-tashrī‘ (gradual legislation), which conceives of legal revelation as a phased and pedagogical process aligned with the intellectual and spiritual development of the Muslim community. Using a qualitative library-based research design and critical content analysis, the article re-examines key verses—including Q.S. al-Mujādilah [58]:12–13, Q.S. al-Baqarah [2]:184–185, and Q.S. al-Nisā’ [4]:15—in their historical and exegetical contexts. The findings demonstrate that these transitions reflect deliberate stages of moral and legal formation rather than normative discontinuity. By foregrounding contextual, historical, and maqāṣid-based dimensions of revelation, the study advances a new interpretive model that reconceptualizes nasakh as part of a dynamic and purposive framework of legal development. This approach offers a crucial corrective to rigid classical classifications and contributes to contemporary Qur’anic studies by affirming the continued relevance of divine law in addressing shifting socio-historical realities.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the conceptual meaning of ḍaiq in the Qur'an through Toshihiko Izutsu's semantic analysis, as well as to articulate its relevance to spiritual and mental health in the digital age. The research method employed is qualitative-library, utilizing Toshihiko Izutsu's semantic approach to the Qur'an. The formal object of this study is the meaning of the term ḍaiq, while the material object is 12 verses containing the term. Data analysis was conducted in layers, including contextual studies, comparative meanings with juxtaposed meanings of ḍaiq, and historical research to reveal the worldview (weltanschauung) of the Qur'an. There is a shift in the worldview (weltanschauung) regarding the term ḍaiq in the Qur'an. Its meaning has evolved from physical-social pressure (Makkiyah-Madaniyah context) to a deeper psychological narrowness. The results of this study show that this psychological narrowness is relevant for analyzing phenomena in the digital age, especially Fear of Missing Out (FoMO), which is a modern manifestation of the condition of ḍaiq. This modern phenomenon of ḍaiq has a direct impact on spiritual and mental health, where feelings of isolation and anxiety hinder the attainment of peace of mind and the search for meaning in life.

Abstract

Hadith studies in Indonesia often face methodological and epistemological challenges, particularly regarding the limited availability of local literature that can bridge the gap between classical traditions and modern needs. Amidst this dynamic, Mahmud Yunus emerges as one of the Muslim scholars who made a significant contribution through his works on hadith. This article aims to examine the credibility of Mahmud Yunus in the study of hadith, focusing on his contributions and influence on contemporary hadith literature. This research employs a qualitative approach based on library research, analyzing Yunus’ major works such as Ilmu Musthalah al-Hadith and Akhlak Menurut al-Qur’an dan Hadis Nabi. The findings reveal that Yunus’ credibility is not solely grounded in his mastery of classical methodologies in sanad and matn criticism, but also in the pedagogical and structural dimensions he developed through the Islamic education system. His approach succeeded in presenting hadith in a simple, communicative, and applicable manner for Indonesian society. His works effectively bridged the academic tradition of hadith with the needs of national education, thereby making hadith more accessible to the broader Indonesian public. Furthermore, his influence is evident in the construction of contemporary hadith literature that is more applicable and responsive to the challenges of modern times. This article contributes to the development of hadith epistemology in Indonesia by offering an integrative perspective that connects classical tradition, national education, and contemporary discourse in hadith studies.

Abstract

In response to growing concerns about the decline of Qur’anic literacy among university students, this mixed-methods study examined both the measurable improvements in reading proficiency resulting from the Mahasiswa Mengaji program—an initiative of the Rector at the State Islamic Institute of Curup (IAIN Curup)—and the contextual factors that facilitated these improvements. A total of 500 students participated in a pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design, with their Qur’anic reading skills assessed across phonological accuracy, reading fluency, and tajwīd application. Ten participants were purposively selected for in-depth interviews, analyzed using the interactive model, to explore the underlying supports that influenced these outcomes. Quantitative findings showed significant gains in all domains: phonological accuracy (t = 31.276, p < 0.001), reading fluency (t = 40.842, p < 0.001), and tajwīd application (t = 39.525, p < 0.001), confirming the program’s effectiveness in enhancing Qur’anic reading. Complementing this, qualitative results identified eight key enabling supports, namely self-regulated learning, teacher scaffolding and presence, peer support, family motivation, internal drive, accessible learning resources, and consistent practice, that explain the mechanisms behind the observed improvements. Taken together, the integration of statistical evidence and thematic insights demonstrates how the program functions not only as an effective intervention but also as a holistic educational strategy for strengthening Qur’anic reading skills.

Abstract

Recent Qur’ānic scholarship has increasingly revisited the relationship between the oral and written dimensions of revelation. This article examines these dimensions through Angelika Neuwirth’s concept of pre-canonical reading, focusing on Sūrah Al-Ikhlāṣ. Neuwirth approaches the Qur’ān from literary, historical, and comparative perspectives, emphasizing that its oral features—such as rhythm, recitation, and audience interaction—are vital for understanding how the Qur’ān initially communicated its message. She argues that the process of codification transformed these living oral expressions into a fixed text, often separating the Qur’ān from its dynamic historical setting. By re-examining Sūrah Al-Ikhlāṣ within its early socio-historical context, this study shows that its concise monotheistic message still carries traces of orality through its sound patterns, rhetorical balance, and dialogical tone. The analysis highlights Neuwirth’s contribution to Qur’ānic studies by bridging orality and textuality, showing the Qur’ān as both a spoken revelation and a historical document shaped through stages of transmission and canonization.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze how the construction of digital social stigma influences perceptions of family happiness and how Qur’anic values can strengthen family resilience amid the visual culture of social media. Using a qualitative approach through literature studies, content analysis of phenomena on TikTok and Instagram, and thematic (maudhu’i) interpretation of relevant Qur’anic verses, this research finds that digital pressure significantly affects perceptions of happiness and may lead to relational conflict and identity crises within families. The values of sakinah, mawaddah, and rahmah (Qur’an, Ar-Rum: 21), along with the principles in Al-Hujurat: 12 and Al-Isra: 36, serve as spiritual and social foundations for building resilient Muslim families. The findings highlight the importance of integrating Qur’anic values with digital literacy to foster strong and enduring families in the era of visual culture.

Abstract

This article presents a comparative analysis of ethical teachings in the Hadith and the Biblical tradition (the Gospels), focusing on three universal values: justice, mercy, and social responsibility. This research is situated within the context of interfaith dialogue, aiming to foster interfaith understanding by emphasizing universal ethical values. This research examines the intersections and differences in the ethical systems of these two major religious traditions and their impact on social practices within religious communities, demonstrating that both traditions share universal values such as compassion, justice, and social responsibility. The research method used is library research across current academic sources, with a comparative analysis of normative texts. Data were obtained from primary sources (authentic Hadith and Gospel texts) and contemporary academic studies. The results show that despite differences in approach and application, both traditions emphasize fundamental values that promote justice and mercy in society. These findings highlight the potential of the ethical teachings of both religions to strengthen interfaith dialogue and promote social harmony. This research offers new insights through a comparative approach that focuses on normative texts, rather than merely comparing dogmatic theologies. This research concludes that both the Hadith and the Bible affirm a prophetic ethic grounded in the values of justice, compassion, and social responsibility. These findings offer new opportunities to develop interfaith public ethics as a foundation for dialogue and cooperation among religious communities in pluralistic societies.
