Abstract

Teacher competence plays an important role in improving students learning outcomes. This study aims to determine the relationship between (1) students perceptions about the science teacher competence and students motivation of Junior High School in the Tual City, (2) students perceptions about the science teacher competence and students learning outcome of Junior High School in Tual City, (3) Students learning motivation and learning outcomes of Junior High School in Tual City. Study data were obtained from 124 students and three teachers from three schools. The results showed that (1) There is a significant relationship between students perceptions about the science teacher competence and students motivation of Junior High School in the Tual City, (5) There is no significant relationship between students perceptions about the science teacher competence and students learning outcome of Junior High School in Tual City, (6) There is no significant relationship between students learning motivation and learning outcomes of Junior High School in Tual City. Students perception on science teacher competence and learning motivation are not the only factors that affect learning outcomes, but there are several factors that influence the learning outcomes of students.

Abstract

This research is aimed to develop student’s worksheet using guided inquiry learning model to train senior high school students’ scientific attitude on the dynamic electricity subject. The specific purposes of this research are to (1) describe the validity of student worksheet, (2) describe the practicality of student worksheet based on questionnaire responses, (3) describe the effectiveness of student worksheet based on students’ cognitive result, and (4) describe the achievement of students’ scientific attitude ability. This research uses research and development methods with ADDIE design. The research shows that: (1) the student worksheet validity is categorized as very valid, (2) the practicality of the student worksheet based on questionnaire responses is categorized as practical, (3) the effectiveness of student worksheet is categorized as effective, and (4) the achievement of students’ scientific attitude ability is moderate. In conclusion, student worksheet using guided inquiry learning model to train students’ scientific attitude for senior high school on the dynamic electricity subject is eligible to be used in the learning process.

Abstract

Fakta menunjukkan bahwa pendidikan di Indonesia tidak fokus untuk mendorong kemampuan berpikir kreatif. Hal ini didukung oleh hasil observasi yang menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan berpikir kreatif dan motivasi di SMP 1 Kudus rendah. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh model project based learning bermuatan Quantum Learning pada materi sistem ekskresi terhadap kemampuan berpikir kreatif dan motivasi belajar siswa beserta besar pengaruhnya. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimen menggunakan desain penelitian quasi-experimental design dengan bentuk nonequivalent control group design. Sampel diambil menggunakan teknik purposive sampling dan diperoleh kelas VIII G sebagai kelas kontrol dan kelas VIII H sebagai kelas eksperimen. Data penelitian diperoleh dari skor prestasi kognitif dan kuesioner motivasi belajar. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan nilai koefisien korelasi yang didapatkan berdasarkan posttest kemampuan berpikir kreatif siswa adalah r = 0,62. Hasil analisis uji t terhadap nilai koefisien korelasi kemampuan berpikir kreatif memperlihatkan thitung = 5,69 yang berarti bahwa ada pengaruh signifikan. Besarnya pengaruh ditunjukkan oleh nilai koefisien determinasi (KD) yang diperoleh sebesar 39%. Hasil analisis data angket motivasi belajar siswa menunjukkan nilai koefisien korelasi yang diperoleh adalah r = 0,84. Hasil analisis uji t terhadap nilai koefisien korelasi motivasi belajar memperlihatkan thitung = 10,82 yang berarti bahwa ada pengaruh signifikan. Besarnya pengaruh ditunjukkan oleh nilai koefisien determinasi (KD) yang diperoleh sebesar 70%. Oleh karena itu dapat disimpulkan bahwa model project based learning bermuatan Quantum Learning pada materi sistem ekskresi berpengaruh terhadap kemampuan berpikir kreatif dan motivasi belajar siswa.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the learning outcomes of students of science in SMA N 13 Semarang on Thermochemistry competence and reaction rate using guided inquiry learning aided LKS. This research is a class act consisting of two cycles. Subjects were students. Data collected through observation and tests. The results showed that the use of guiding inquiry learning model aided LKS can improve student learning outcomes, covering the aspects of knowledge, attitude aspect (student activity) and skills aspects (performance practicum). Improved knowledge of students can be seen from the increase in the number of students who pass out of 27 students in the first cycle to 33 students in the second cycle of 37 students. Increased activity of students can be seen from the number of students with grades of 27 students completed the first cycle to 37 students in cycle II. Improved performance lab can be seen from the number of students to the value of the number of students 30 completed the first cycle to 35 students in the second cycle of 37 students.

Abstract

Communication skills is one of the important competences which needs to be trained continuously to compete in ASEAN Economic Community (AEC). Communication skills can be trained in education. In Indonesia, this skills is one of ten future needed competences for every student. The purpose of this research is to analyze the communication skills of students in biology class for XI grade of Y Senior High School in Madiun Regency. This research used descriptive method. The method of collecting data in this research was using non-test approach by analysis of learning implementation using non-participatory observation and documentation in pictures, audio, and video. The measurement of students; communication was obtained through scoring instrument with twelve indicators: 1) various data description, 2) descriptive relation data, 3) various meaning of data, 4) exploring the content of material with different ideas, 5) data validity, 6) differentiate data and conclusion, 7) clarifying questions, 8) ensuring friends’ question, 9) responding friends’ statement, 10) separating ideas, 11) revising opinion from friends’ input, 12) concluding interesting conclusion. The analysis of data used quantitative descriptive approach. The result of the analysis showed that from twelve indicators, only two indicators appears from students’ communication skills in learning biology. Those were indicator 8) 41.2% and indicator 9) 58.8%. Based on the analysis, it can be concluded that students’ communication skills in biology class from XI graders of Y Senior High School in Madiun Regency was relatively low. Based on the result of the research, there should be a development of learning design which can improve students’ communication skills.

Abstract

The students of long distance education were demanded to had high self-regulated learning so that they could survive and success in their study. Therefore, they had to be trained to do self-regulated learning so that they could improve their academic achievements. This research was a quasi-experimental research involved 63 the students of long distance education of Biology Education who got used to do self-regulated learning through online tutorials integrating learning strategy and were given a guide of self-regulated learning and 48 the students who did not receive the treatments. After the online tutorials finished, the students filled the scale of self-regulated learning and had final exams. Besides, they filled open ended questioners and were interviewed. Based on the statistical results, the students who got self-regulated learning through online tutorials integrating the learning strategy and the learning guide significantly got higher score of self-regulated learning compared to the students who did not. Likewise the students' academic achievements were significantly higher than the students without treatments. In the future, it was suggested that the integration of the learning strategy into online tutorials should be done to all courses so that the students could had higher self-regulated learning influenced the academic achievements.

Abstract

This research was raised under low skills of critical thinking of Senior High School (SHS) students. The purpose of this research was to unveil the effectiveness of SETS vision for critical thinking. This research was a quasi experiment with non equivalent control group design. The sampling of this research used purposive sampling.Class XI MIA1 as experiment class get SETS vision treatment, while XI MIA2 got conventional learning model. The main instrument of this research was critical thinking skills portrayed from 12 test items which have been validated and highly reliable. The testing of hypothesis using t-test concluded that there was a difference of critical thinking in experimental class students to control class students. The average ability of critical thinking in experimental class was higher than the control class. Thus, it can be concluded that SETS can improve students critical thinking.

Abstract

This study aim was improvement (1) students self-concept, (2) students learning achievement of physics, and (3) describe the response of students towards inquiry learning model implementation. This study was an action research conducted in two cycles. Subjects were student class XI.A2 of SMA Lab Undiksha academic year 2012/2013, which consist of 39 people. Data collected by administering tests, questionnaires and observation sheets. The data that obtained, analyzed by descriptive statistics. The results shows that (1) there are improvement in students self-concept from first cycle (M = 102.4) to second cycle (M = 113.2), medium categorized, (2) an improvement in the average value of students learning achievement from first cycle (M = 75.5) to second cycle (M = 80.5) good categorized, and (3) students responses to the implementation of inquiry learning model is positive.

Abstract

This study used a sequential exploratory mixed method to examine the effectiveness of using electronic portfolio to assess the scientific literacy of evolution theory. 135 university students majoring biology education were involved as the research participants. They were asked to create the electronic portfolio by using any learning artefacts produced during the classroom activities including direct and virtual practicums, reading activities, direct and online discussions, quizzes, and formative examinations. Results depicted that electronic portfolio was effective for assessing the scientific literacy of evolution theory that consisted of some skills namely scientific communication, observation and experiment, scientific and creative thinking, professionalism, and electronic portfolio organization and content. Another finding disclosed that students showed a positive response on the electronic portfolio creation. This study suggests that electronic portfolio can be used as an assessment tool of the scientific literacy of evolution theory relevantly to industrial revolution 4.0.

Abstract

Integrated learning is planned based on the theme to relate several subjects that able to give meaningful experience to students. Natural science subject is themed to discuss about natural phenomena, which materials was obtained from mindset and observation. Natural science should be introduced from childhood to Elementary School students to make the students able to think critically, creatively, and build scientific characters. Initial survey results showed that elementary school students were difficult in providing students’ thematic learning effectively; thereby, many students were difficult to learn and answer the questions in the online handout. Integrated learning is one of the models which can improve students’ competence. To use this model, students’ book is needed. This research was conducted to develop students’ book based on integrated learning model which were valid, pratical, and effective to accelerate students’ competence. This research and development used Plomp model with three steps: preliminary research, prototyping phase, and assessment phase. The instruments of this research were interview guides, observation sheets, teachers and students’ questionnaires, students’ test result, skills and behavior and skills scoring sheets. The result of this research showed that the developed students’ book has been valid based on experts’ judgement, teachers’ responses and students. The application of students’ book was effective to improve students’ competence.
