Abstract

In the digital age, technology and the internet have become integral to daily life in Indonesia. With 210 million Indonesians connected to the internet in 2021-2022, social media is a dominant activity, especially among those aged 19-34. This study examines the relationship between interpersonal trust and self-disclosure among Instagram second account users in Palangka Raya. Utilizing a quantitative correlational design, 130 participants were surveyed using adapted scales for interpersonal trust and self-disclosure. Descriptive statistics showed medium levels of both interpersonal trust (mean = 52.71) and self-disclosure (mean = 45.72). Spearman's correlation analysis revealed a significant positive relationship (r = 0.308, p < 0.01), indicating that higher trust levels are associated with greater self-disclosure. These findings underscore the importance of trust in fostering open communication on social media. The study contributes to understanding the dynamics of trust and self-disclosure in early adulthood but highlights the need for further research with more diverse samples to explore additional influencing factors.

Abstract

In the history of adult education has gone through various stages of evolution, a long history has brought the understanding that adult learning is not only about the transfer of knowledge but also involves psychological, social and cultural aspects. In the context of adult education, guidance and counseling play an important role in supporting holistic individual development. Guidance and counseling helps adults overcome challenges, set realistic goals, and develop strategies to reach potential. While the digital era presents new challenges and opportunities in the context of adult learning, literacy is not just the ability to use technology but also involves critical and creative skills in understanding and utilizing digital information. There are many positive impacts that can be enjoyed, such as efficiency and ease of access to information. The research method used is a literature review with descriptive qualitative data analysis, which aims to seek a deeper understanding of adult education, as well as digitalization and literacy. It is necessary to pay further attention to how they optimize the potential of technology in everyday life. In this way, the integration between the concepts of andragogy, digitalization, and guidance and counseling offers a holistic and integrated approach in supporting adult learning and development. By utilizing technology wisely and supported by the right guidance, individuals can optimize their potential in various aspects of life, thereby creating a society that is more skilled, competitive and digitally cultured.

Abstract

The rapid evolution of digital media has significantly shaped communication patterns and social interactions, particularly among young adults. This study explores the correlation between neuroticism and the Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) among students at Universitas Kristen Satya Wacana, with a focus on understanding how these elements impact psychological health and social behaviors. Utilizing a quantitative correlational design, the research investigates how the personality trait of neuroticism predicts the extent of FoMO, a condition exacerbated by intense social media engagement. The sample comprised 158 active university students who engage in over three hours of social media usage daily. Data were collected via the Fear of Missing Out Scale and the Neuroticism Scale from the NEO-PI, administered through Google Forms. The findings reveal a significant positive correlation between neuroticism and FoMO (r = 0.704, p < 0.01), indicating that students with higher levels of neuroticism are more likely to experience FoMO. These results suggest that neuroticism may enhance sensitivity to social media cues, thereby increasing feelings of anxiety and the fear of being left out of rewarding social experiences. The study highlights the need for targeted psychological interventions and educational programs to mitigate the impacts of FoMO and promote healthier social media habits. This research contributes to the broader discourse on the psychological effects of digital technologies, emphasizing the importance of addressing underlying personality traits that predispose individuals to digital vulnerabilities.

Abstract

This study examines the guidance and counseling needs of visually impaired students, emphasizing the importance of tailored programs to address their unique challenges. Using a qualitative approach complemented by quantitative data collection, the research surveyed visually impaired students at SLB – A Karya Murni Medan. The findings reveal that personal needs, such as independent daily living activities, are the highest priority, followed by career needs, including career guidance and decision-making skills. Social needs, involving communication and social interaction, and academic needs, covering fundamental educational skills, were also significant. The analysis underscores the necessity of a comprehensive counseling program designed to support visually impaired students in achieving personal independence, career readiness, social skills development, and academic success. This program should incorporate a thorough understanding of students' needs, clear objectives, and robust implementation strategies to ensure their overall well-being and development.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the dynamics of social interactions that were passed down from previous generations in students of the BK Study Program after the Maluku conflict. The research method used a qualitative approach with in-depth interviews with students whose families experienced the conflict in Maluku directly in 1999-2002. Through coding analysis, the research identified thematic patterns and meanings that emerged from students' narratives. Based on the results of the study, it was found that the social interaction of post-conflict Counseling students both individually and in groups can be established with active communication between students of different religions with tolerance as an attitude to maintain harmony in social relations during the study period and emphasize the need for integration of social aspects reflected in the study program curriculum so that the unique experience of each post-conflict student passed down from generation to generation can adapt to the campus environment commonly dubbed the "campus of basudara people".

Abstract

The transition from high school to higher education represents a significant milestone for adolescents, often accompanied by migration to access better educational opportunities, known as "merantau." This phenomenon, prevalent among students aged 18-24, is associated with a high prevalence of nomophobia, characterized by anxiety and discomfort when separated from smartphones. This study aims to explore the relationship between self-esteem and nomophobia tendencies among migrant students, given the mixed findings in existing literature. Employing a correlational quantitative research design, data were collected from 153 migrant students using the Nomophobia Questionnaire (NMP-Q) and the State Self-Esteem Scale (SSES). Descriptive analysis revealed that 74.5% of students exhibited moderate nomophobia tendencies, while 62.7% had high self-esteem. Pearson's correlation analysis indicated a significant negative relationship between self-esteem and nomophobia tendencies (r = -0.222, p = 0.006), suggesting that higher self-esteem is associated with lower nomophobia tendencies. This finding underscores the importance of enhancing self-esteem to mitigate nomophobia, highlighting the role of positive self-perception and real-life social interactions. Despite limitations such as the online data collection method, this study provides valuable insights into the psychological dynamics between self-esteem and nomophobia among migrant students, advocating for targeted interventions to address these issues.

Abstract

This study explores the crucial role of social support in facilitating the transition of adolescents from high school to university, focusing on two respondents, BM and MM. BM, in his second semester at a state university, struggles with the challenges of living independently in a boarding house, feeling significant emotional strain due to limited parental communication. MM, a student at a private university, maintains a close and supportive relationship with his father, despite the absence of his mother since he was two years old. The research highlights the importance of different types of social support—appraisal, belonging, and tangible—in aiding students' adaptation to university life. Appraisal support involves the availability of someone to discuss problems, while belonging support encompasses emotional and task-related assistance from family members. Tangible support refers to material assistance provided by parents. The findings indicate that effective social support, particularly from family, is essential for promoting mental health, academic success, and overall well-being during this critical transition period. The study underscores the need for future research to explore these dynamics further, considering broader cultural and socio-economic contexts that influence the availability and effectiveness of social support.

Abstract

This study investigates the relationship between dual-role conflict and job stress among married female nurses working at Hospital X in Magelang. The hospital's policy flexibility in the new normal era aims to enhance healthcare quality, but this also leads to job stress among nurses due to heavy workloads. Interviews with ten married nurses revealed various stress-related issues, highlighting the need for further research. The study defines job stress as the body's response to high job demands and dual-role conflict as the interference between job and family roles. A total of 90 female nurses participated in the study, with data collected via questionnaires using Likert scales. Descriptive statistics showed high levels of dual-role conflict and moderate job stress among participants. Validity and reliability tests confirmed the suitability of the measurement tools used. Pearson correlation analysis revealed no significant relationship between dual-role conflict and job stress (r = -0.073, p > 0.05). The findings suggest that while dual-role conflict levels are high, they do not significantly contribute to job stress among the nurses. Factors such as manageable role conflicts and supportive spouses may mitigate the impact. This study aligns with previous research indicating that dual-role conflict does not necessarily increase job stress among working women. Despite limitations, the study underscores the importance of considering various factors influencing job stress and suggests that other elements may play a more critical role in affecting the stress levels of female nurses at Hospital X.

Abstract

This study investigates the relationship between self-control and online shopping consumptive behavior among K-Pop fans, focusing on the NCTzen fanbase in Java, Indonesia. Conducted in October 2023, the research collected data from 151 respondents via Google Forms. The study aimed to determine if self-control influences consumptive behavior in online shopping contexts. Descriptive statistics revealed that higher self-control correlates with lower levels of consumptive behavior. The correlation coefficient of -0.198 (p < 0.05) indicates a significant negative relationship. These findings align with previous research, underscoring the critical role of self-control in mitigating excessive spending. The study suggests that counseling programs incorporating self-control enhancement strategies, educational workshops, and parental guidance can effectively reduce impulsive purchases among K-Pop fans. Such interventions are vital for promoting mindful consumption and financial responsibility, especially in the context of online shopping. This study also highlights the need for further research to explore additional factors influencing consumptive behavior in this demographic.
