Abstract

The increasing need for drinking water consumption has caused drinking water depots (DAM) to become one of the most popular choices among people. This is because the number of drinking water depots in Sukmajaya District has increased from 2019-2020 by 33%. To acquire consumption-safe status, DAM’s water must be free from coliforms. This study aims to determine the relationship between DAM’s sanitation hygiene with the number of Coliforms, with DAM in Sukmajaya District as the research subject. This study uses an analytical observational method using a cross-sectional approach. The research variables are place sanitation, equipment sanitation, and handler hygiene from the research population of 45 DAM units, with 31 DAM units taken as samples. By observation and interview with checklist sheets guided by the Minister of Health Regulation No. 43 of 2014, the results showed that among 31 DAMs, there were 15 (48.4%) DAMs that met the requirements for the total number of Coliforms, and 16 (51.6%) others did not meet the requirements for the total number of Coliforms. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between equipment sanitation (p = 0.001)  and the hygienic conditions of the handlers (p = 0.001) in the presence of Coliform bacteria. Meanwhile, in the sanitation conditions (p=0.537) there was no significant relationship with the presence of Coliform bacteria. It can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between equipment sanitation and handler hygiene and the number of coliforms in DAM waters. Conversely, the place sanitation variable shows that there is no significant relationship with the number of Coliforms in DAM waters.

Abstract

In 2019, there were 147 cases of agricultural pesticide poisoning in Indonesia. Preventing pesticide poisoning requires a high knowledge of personal protective equipment (PPE) and extensive work experience among farmers. This helps farmers become more skilled and aware of the risks, making them more careful and compliant with PPE usage. This study aims to determine the relationship between knowledge and years of service with compliance in using PPE when spraying pesticides. The research is analytical and observational with a cross-sectional design. Respondents were 57 farmers from Triyagan Village, all members of farmer groups. Total sampling was used to select participants. The research instruments included a questionnaire to assess farmers' knowledge and years of service and an observation sheet to evaluate PPE compliance. Data were analyzed using the gamma test and logistic regression. Bivariate analysis with the gamma test revealed a significant relationship between knowledge and years of service with PPE compliance among farmers in Triyagan Village (p = 0.033; r = 0.525; p = 0.037; r = 0.402). Multivariate analysis with logistic regression further confirmed the significant relationship, indicating that knowledge had a greater influence on PPE compliance than years of service (p = 0.033; OR = 3.319; p = 0.037; OR = 1.708). In conclusion, knowledge and tenure are significantly related to PPE compliance among farmers in Triyagan Village. Enhanced knowledge appears to be the critical factor in properly using PPE when spraying pesticides.

Abstract

The community's disposal of various types of waste leads to a high level of water pollution, which in turn causes a decline in both water quality and quantity. Pollution is the entry or containment of living things through human activities, resulting in a decrease in quality to a certain level, which leads to the environment not operating as specified. Various types of waste contribute to pollution, creating chemical and organic compounds that pose a threat to living organisms. This study aims to record and provide information on the effect of river water pollution on the population of tinhead fish (Aplocheilus panchax) in the river Jl. Purworejo, Central Java. The research methodology was carried out on the river Jl. Purworejo, Central Java, with the tools and materials used in the form of GPS smartphones, cameras, stationery (field books, pens), fish, and garbage in the research location. We conducted descriptive exploratory research, literature reviews, and library studies. We once collected data from a garbage-covered river. Observations confirmed that there were as many as seven species of tinhead fish in river waters. The findings indicate that the presence of organic and inorganic waste in polluted waters has an impact on the quantity of tinhead fish inhabiting clean waters with lush vegetation. This report is the first piece of information regarding the influence of river water quality on Jl. Purworejo, Central Java. Other parts of the river require research and cleanup efforts.

Abstract

Borax detection can be done using the flame test method, volumetric titration, spectrophotometric analysis, and qualitatively using natural materials such as curcumin and anthocyanins. Acid-base titrations have the potential to utilize the high content of anthocyanins in grapes as an indicator of natural acid-base. The research objective was to determine the potential of anthocyanins in the flesh and skin of grapes in detecting natural borax, which is absorbed on filter paper, Whatmann paper no. 41, and Whatmann paper no. 42. We then tested it on meatball samples from five vendors in Samarinda Seberang and Mangkupalas village. The research method used is a quantitative analysis of the color changes that occur. Based on the research results, filter paper can have better absorption, as shown by the dark color on Whatman No. 41 and 42. Grape skin extract can detect borax more clearly than flesh by forming a dark purple ring when reacted with borax. In testing using meatball samples, the overall results of the samples contained borax. It was concluded that the filter paper from the absorption of grape skin anthocyanins could be used as an alternative for quantitatively testing the borax content in food.

Abstract

In the past three years, the Jiwan Health Centre's area has had the highest dengue fever incidence in Madiun Regency. This area still has many water puddles that serve as mosquito breeding grounds. The Jiwan Health Center reported 40 cases and 2 deaths in 2019, 6 cases in 2020, and 16 cases in 2021. This study aimed to identify environmental and social risk factors linked to dengue fever cases in this region. We used an analytical observation method, including a case-control study, and analyzed data with the chi-square test, using probability sampling. A study that looked at just one variable found that air temperature (36.3%), humidity (83.3%), house index (68.8%), container index (41.3%), the lack of mosquito larvae observer cadres (87.5%), fogging activity (55%), and DHF PSN activity (27.5%) were all dangerous. Bivariate test results showed a correlation between the container index (p = 0.000) and fogging activities (p = 0.042) with DHF incidence. There was no significant connection between dengue incidence, air temperature (p = 0.642), humidity (p = 1.000), house index (p = 0.335), jumantic cadre activities (p = 0.737), or PSN DHF activities (p = 0.453). Environmental and social factors, such as positive larvae presence and fogging activities, contribute to the dengue fever incidence in the Jiwan Health Center's area. For the past three years, this area has consistently had the highest dengue fever cases in Madiun Regency, primarily due to persistent mosquito breeding sites.

Abstract

Socially, housing is a fundamental necessity for every individual. As the population in Keraton Subdistrict, Martapura District, continues to grow, the layout and environmental conditions of settlements, characterized by closely arranged buildings, impact the comfort of residents. Habitable living spaces must fulfill health and comfort criteria, influenced by lighting, temperature, and humidity. This research aims to explore the relationship between these factors and residents' comfort levels in densely populated areas. Conducted as an analytical cross-sectional study, the research involved 96 households selected through purposive sampling. Data collection relied on a questionnaire assessing residents' comfort levels, with statistical analysis employing the Sommers’s correlation test. Findings revealed an average lighting intensity of 58.38 Lux, an average temperature of 28.3 °C, and an average humidity of 72% among respondents. Approximately 48 individuals (50%) reported being comfortable living in dense residential areas. Statistical analysis indicated a significant relationship between lighting and residents' comfort levels, while no significant correlation was found between temperature and comfort. However, humidity showed a notable association with residents' comfort. Recommendations for the public include enhancing indoor lighting, regulating temperature, and optimizing humidity levels through daily ventilation through window openings. This approach facilitates better airflow, thereby improving the overall comfort of household occupants. Further research could delve into additional factors influencing residents' comfort and explore alternative strategies to enhance living conditions in densely populated areas. Ultimately, this study underscores the importance of considering environmental factors in urban planning to ensure residents' well-being and comfort.

Abstract

Today, many houses are located on the edge of highways, potentially exposing these homes to additional noise from the traffic flow. This study aims to determine the relationship between noise levels and the comfort levels of residential homes in the Bangkal sub-district. This observational study, which has a cross-sectional design, includes 12 sample points for noise measurement and 77 houses directly adjacent to the road for comfort level sampling. Noise levels were measured using a sound level meter, while traffic density was measured using a compass and counter. The relationship between the two variables was analyzed using the Spearman correlation test. Results showed that the volume of traffic flow ranged from 334 pcu/hour to 402 pcu/hour. The highest noise level was recorded at TS-7 (65.7 dBA) and the lowest at TS-9 (61.7 dBA). According to the South Kalimantan governor's regulation number 53 of 2007, all 12 sample points of noise measurement exceed the quality standard. The average correlation between noise level and comfort level indicated that 88% of households reported being less comfortable, 12% felt uncomfortable, and none felt comfortable. Houses can reduce road traffic noise by installing thick curtains on their windows and doors, planting trees and ornamental plants in pots, and constructing artificial walls.

Abstract

Dermatitis is a skin disorder that appears inflamed and irritated. There are two factors that influence the occurrence of dermatitis: exogenous factors (chemicals, microorganisms, temperature, and humidity) and endogenous factors (personal hygiene, skin thickness, age, gender, and disease history). In 2020, the Balangan District Health Office recorded data showing dermatitis as the 6th most common disease among the community from various sub-districts in Balangan Regency, with Juai being the sub-district with the highest number of dermatitis cases. In Juai, the Balangan District Health Office recorded 519 cases of dermatitis in 2020. This study was aimed at determining the relationship between the physical environment of the house, personal hygiene, and dermatitis in the community. We conducted this research as an analytical survey, utilizing a case-control research design. The sample consisted of 43 cases and 43 controls. The instruments used were a thermohygrometer, a lux meter, and a questionnaire. Some cases involved the use of data analysis. Statistical test results In Juai District, Balangan Regency, Somers'd revealed a significant correlation between the physical environment of the house (temperature p = 0.001, humidity p = 0.004, and lighting p = 0.002), personal hygiene (p = 0.018), and dermatitis. Patients with dermatitis should avoid allergen-triggering substances found in daily products and improve habits that can trigger dermatitis.

Abstract

This results in unsuitable water quality. A natural ingredient can be used to treat wastewater from cassava peel. This study aimed to ascertain the variation in iron (Fe) levels in dug well water before and after cassava peel treatment. This pure experimental research used a posttest-only control group design method. The research population consisted of water from a dug well in Sungai Tiung Village, Banjarbaru City, which contains high iron levels. The research sample was part of the dug-well water. The Kruskal-Wallis statistical test revealed a significant difference between treatments, prompting using the Mann-Whitney test. Further statistical tests yielded the asymptote value Sig. (2-tailed) < 0.05, indicating significant differences between doses of 0 grams and 1 gram, 1.5 grams, 2 grams, 2.5 grams, and 3 grams; the dose of 1 gram and 2.5 grams and 3 grams; and the dose of 1.5 grams and 2.5 grams and 3 grams. The study concluded that using cassava peel for water treatment effectively reduces iron content. Further research is recommended to achieve iron levels by quality standards by varying the time of the coagulation-flocculation process and conducting a preliminary test to determine the optimal dose variation.
