Abstract

This article tries to exploration the role of college in values to transforms of Islamic in life of Indonesia pluralistic society. Immeasurable of problems that happened in this nation make proper to get attention of college as independent institute and far from importance of momentary politics. This article also try to give way out how ought to the problem of and difference of diversity have to be accepted as by something there is. For example problem of diversity of culture, social and religion which recently exactly religion values reduce this is humanist and is godlike. Therefore, College has to be optimal of role as realization of responsibility it’s social to nation and society. Social Harmonies represent the infrastructure society to make that is pluralism more having a meaning for the sake of present day and future. There is a thing which is gristle in relationship of pluralities society besides problem of socio-cultural, political and economic. Among others is society relationship and religions in context have theology.

Abstract

Muhammadiyah is known as Islamic organization pioneering modern educational and social movement. Recently, Muhammadiyah education has experienced rapid development, yet there are still many problems and challenges to overcome in order to continue competing and giving the best for the society. The aim of this research was to figure out the role of Muhammadiyah in conducting dakwah bil hal movement in education and social environment in Sorong City, Papua. By using qualitative method and in-depth interview and also field research, this study found out that bil hal Muhammadiyah Movement in Sorong City, Papua has given significant impact on the society, especially in education from Kindergarten to University level. Meanwhile, in the social field, Muhammadiyah in Sorong City had built orphanage for boys and girls. However, in terms of management of organizational governance, Muhammadiyah needs to strengthen the solidity between regional leaders, optimization of autonomous assemblies and organizations as a power base to support maximization of dakwah bil hal Muhammadiyah movement in the future, especially in education and society.

Abstract

Students discipline problem is developing into an epidemic in Nigerian schools. Every culture has its own values and norms, and these are communicated to its young generation through disciplinary strategies; and being culturally conceptualized and negotiated, these strategies and the languages therein, can only be understood by the members of the identifiable cultural group. The study evaluates some relevant information on teachers’ routine experiences and their views on the effectiveness the enforcement of order, control and disciplinary actions in secondary schools and how school disciplines are influenced by the cultural background of the Staff and students. This study explores teachers’ views on the common approaches and school disciplinary models in Nigeria. The paper suggests that the current educational administration and policies erodes the powers of the secondary Staff to such degree that teachers are disempowered hence, indiscipline among students continues to gather momentum causing poor academic performances.

Abstract

This study aimed to explain the development of the Islamic Religious Education (PAI) curriculum in Islamic religious higher education which refers to the Indonesian National Qualifications Framework (KKNI), the National Higher Education Standards (SNPT), and the Science Integration-Interconnection Paradigm as an orientation for scientific development at UIN Sunan Kalijaga. This research used qualitative methods with a naturalistic qualitative approach. The research took place at the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Education (FITK), UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta with a focus on the study program of PAI. The subjects of this study consisted of the Dean, Deputy Dean, and Chair of the Study Program, lecturers, and students of PAI. The research procedure was taken in four steps: observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Meanwhile, the data were analyzed by using the inductive model. The findings of the study indicated as follows; first, curriculum development emphasizes the clarity of the graduate profile, learning outcomes, the PAI field of study as the scope of development, the weight of the semester credit units. Second, curriculum development accommodates professional teacher competencies with four competencies; pedagogic, personality, social and professional. Third, curriculum development in the PAI Study Program emphasizes aspects of Islamic Education with its main sources, namely the Al-Qur'an and Al-Hadith.

Abstract

This paper discusses moral education which should begin by focussing on what exactly is meant by the term “moral human being” in Character Education. This is because whatever approach is used has to be based on the exact and clear understanding of the moral human being himself. A moral human being should posses the components categorised as concept, that is, the rules and principles which are deemed necessary to be used in actions and feelings or emotions which support the belief that a concept or action should be carried out. Apart from that, a moral human being should have the moral knowledge of the surroundings, know how to interact and act according to the decisions made. Character education will enable one to be a moral human being who should know the good, desire the good and do good.

Abstract

This paper is to consider the term “comparative” in its more restricted sense, in the way the term is used in various comparative fields of study. It is somewhat curious that scholars in our field of comparative education have never attempted to sort out the various meanings of the term “comparative.” I do not plan to draw a firm distinction between the two spheres, though it might be helpful to suggest that “comparative education” is generally regarded as the more academic or scientific aspect of the field, while international education is related to “cooperation, understanding, and exchange” elements of the field. I feel we must reject the hegemonic claims of science. We recall, for example, that Comte believed society traversed through various stages, from religion, to philosophy, then to science. His mistake, from my vantage point, was to place these ways of knowing in a hierarchical framework, which makes philosophy a second-rate means of knowing, and religion a third-rate means of knowing. My own orientation is to place them parallel with each other. There is a place for the spiritual, a place for the philosophical, and a place for the scientific, and any attempt to place one exclusively over the other is inappropriate.

Abstract

This essay is an exploration into the social inevitabilities of culture shifts within the American Muslim community’s self-understanding of their faith. Rather than a theological explication of the reasons why and why not Islam may or can or will not assimilate in America, our approach will be strictly sociological thereby side stepping the intricate dialectic of theological niceties in deference to the social realities of culture change. As a social psychologist, my duty is to acknowledge the inevitabilities of behavioral shifts brought about due to social and cultural pressures resulting from immigration into an alien cultural weltanschauung, i.e., worldview. Therefore in this essay, we will explicate the meaning and nature of de-ethnicization and re-enculturation as we endeavor to disentangle religion from culture, recognizing that much of what goes under the flag of religious orthodoxy is really culturally-mandated behavior and worldview. The assimilation process, however, will bear heavily upon the necessity for Muslim clergy in America to become professional by Western standards and we will in the process explore the complexities of religious secularism as a way of becoming an “American” Muslim. Finally, we will suggest liturgical and architectural “adjustments” to Western modes of public worship while indicating linguistic niceties which will prove helpful in the assimilation process which we have chosen here to call the “Islamicization of America”.

Abstract

Riau Province is one of the prone areas of forest and land fires in Indonesia. Fires in Riau have occurred since 1997 and peaked during the period of 2014 to 2015. Since that time, the government and other stakeholders had begun to change the paradigm of forest and land fire prevention, from preventing to handling. This study aims to analyze the communication process among stakeholders in preventing Karhutla (Forest and Land Fires) in Riau Province. The study was conducted by using qualitative methods through semi-structured interview toward 14 informants representing government communication roles, forestry and palm oil industries, researchers, NGOs, mass media, and The Fire Care Community (Masyarakat Peduli Api/MPA). The results of the study explain that all stakeholders have responses that fire intentionally caused by individuals and organized groups on open land, corporate land and community land. The planning and implementation of risk reduction are performed through various communication channels such as Karhutla Task Force, direct communication and media usage, especially WhatsApp, mass media and social media. In general, communication in expert modules is still dominated by government and minus researchers, while in public; the role of stakeholders is almost equal.

Abstract

Higher Education is an effective educational institution in determining and producing the next scientific generation in the future. There are some factors that can transform the higher education institutions, such as: commitment owned by the organizers, trust, interpersonal communication, leadership and organizational culture. This research was conducted from October 2015 until October 2016. The sample for this research is all lecturers in UIN North Sumatera amounted to 419 lecturers spread across 38 departments under eight faculties. This research aims to analyze the influence of one variable on other variables, either direct influence of 0.241, 0.273 and 0.212 or indirect influence of 0.097, 0.219, 0.120 and 0.472, those are: (culture of undergraduate school (X1), leadership (X2), and interpersonal communication (X3) and exogenous variables are trust (X4), commitment (X5) and effectiveness of undergraduate school (X6). This research use analysis technique of PATH ANALYSYS. Regarding the development model of an effective undergraduate school, it can also be assessed based on system approach techniques, ranging from inputs (to school effectiveness study); Processes/ throughputs; Outputs (of school effectiveness study); and outcomes (longer-term results of study).

Abstract

It is believed that through a journey of being a good researcher, it is beneficial to appreciate two different values drawing form two opposite paradigms, which in turn familiarizing oneself with two distinct conceptual frameworks thereby strengthening individual’s research capacity. In this paper, a novice qualitative researcher shares four lessons learned from the process of conducting his first qualitative study. The lessons are: (1) Do your homework on the literature; (2) Carefully read regulations of Institutional Review Board; (3) Any confusion, ask the experts first; (4) If possible, try to use qualitative data analysis software; and (5) Reflect and challenge your assumptions all the time.
