Abstract

This paper describes acute areas in which technology plays a role in language and culture revitalization. It was discovered that in order for people to learn a new language, they must express interest in that language. This work presents a new way of arousing the interest of people in learning Yorùbá language through the use of mobile game thereby promoting and revitalizing Yorùbá language and culture. The mobile application was evaluated using questionnaire to selected participants who have the mobile game developed installed on their phones and explored the application, and then rated based on some criteria such as extensibility, ease of use and user interest in learning Yorùbá Language after playing the game. The results showed that 76% of respondents rated the game ease of use as above average, 70% and 90% of the respondents rated the extensibility of the game and interest in learning Yorùbá after playing game above average respectively. This technology-based application will serve as an interesting and fun-filled approach of getting people to express interest in learning native indigenous language individually and as a group.

Abstract

Big Data App is a developed framework that we made based on our previous project research and we have uploaded it on github, which is developing lightweight serverless both on Windows and Linux OS with the term of EdUBig as Open Source Hadoop Distribution. In this study, the focus is on solving problems related to difficulties in building a frontend and backend model of a Big Data application which by default only runs scripts through consoles in the terminal. This will be quite a tribulation for the end users when the Big Data application has been released and mass produced to general users (end users) and at the same time how the end users test the performance of the Map Reduce Naive Bayes algorithm used in several datasets. In accordance to these problems, we created the Big Data App framework to make the end users, especially developers, feel easier to build a Big Data application by integrating the frontend using the Web App from Django framework and Mobile App Native, while for the backend, we use Django framework that is able to communicate directly with the script either hadoop batch, streaming processing or spark streaming very easily and also to use the script for pig, hive, web hdfs, sqoop, oozie, etc. the making of which is extremely fast with reliable results. Based on the test results, a very significant result in the ease of data computation processing by the end users and the final results showing the highest classification accuracy of 88.3576% was obtained. Keywords: big data, map reduce of naive bayes, serverless, web and mobile app, restful api, django framework

Abstract

Microservice is an architecture that can solve many problems in a monolithic architecture. One of the problems is the ability to handle many concurrent users. The existing monolithic application can be restructured into microservices to increase robustness in handling a lot of users, without exception native mobile application. This study aimed to restructure the existing native mobile application named TemanBisnis into microservices. The restructuring process can be done by splitting the application features according to its business domain into one service. Two microservice architecture designs were proposed in this study, named 3-1 architecture and 2-1-1 architecture. Both architectures can handle up to 100 concurrent users, although they start to produce errors. By performance, the 3-1 architecture is better than the 2-1-1 architecture. In the end, an existing native mobile application can be restructured into microservices. The 3-1 architecture should be adopted to achieve the best results between these two architectures.

Abstract

Abstract. One of the tasks of the Indonesian Citrus and Subtropical Research Institute is research on crossing between citrus varieties to produce saplings with the best quality products through observation of the fruit produced. Because the amount of fruit production studied is very large, it requires a fast and accurate observation process, one of which is the clustering method of data mining. Observations were made using a clustering process or grouping Density Based Spatial Clustering Application with Noise (DBSCAN) on fruit characteristics that indicate quality. DBSCAN works by grouping data based on density, so that it is expected to find several data groups that are close to each other which shows the tendency of the quality of the observed fruit data as well as labeling outlays for data that are too far from the crowd. The results of the grouping will be analyzed to find out the number and characteristics of the groups formed where the results of the grouping are assessed using the Silhouette Coefficient method to determine the best parameter values. The results obtained in this study are obtained three group results which will be divided into medium quality, good, and not so good. The quality of grouping using the Silhouette Coefficient value of 0.69.

Abstract

In engineering education, some assessments require the students to submit program code, and since that code might be a result of plagiarism or collusion, a similarity detection tool is often used to filter excessively similar programs. To improve the scalability of such a tool, it is suggested to initially suspect some programs and only compare those programs to others (instead of exhaustively compare all programs one another). This paper compares the ef-fectiveness of two common techniques to raise such initial suspicion: focusing on the submissions of smart students (as they are likely to be copied), or the submissions of slow-paced students (since those students are likely to breach academic integrity to get higher assessment mark). Our study shows that the latter statistically outperforms the former by 13% in terms of precision; slow-paced students are likely to be the perpetrators, but they fail to get the submissions of smart students.

Abstract

Disaster management is important to reduce the risk casualties as well as the environment and economic impacts. One of the stakeholders in disaster management in Indonesia at the local level is the Regional Disaster Management Agency (Badan Pengelolaan Bencana Daerah – BPBD).  In the process of disaster management, there are several phases. Thi initial phase is known as the prevention phase, which is an attempt to eliminate or reduce the possibility of a threat. In this phase, the role of information technology is important to increase the efficiency in disaster management. One of the information technologies that is used widely in disaster management is the Geographic Information System (GIS). This study explores the role of GIS technology employed at BPBD of Batu City in disaster management. The Research Qualitative Data Analysis (RQDA) method is employed based on the questionnaire data. The results show that the role of GIS technology is very limited. The disaster management at the Batu City is mostly done by the traditional method with the manual approach. The role of technology is limited it needs to be improved. Suggestions for increasing the role of technology is to conduct training on the use of GIS for employees. It is expected to increase the role of technology in disaster management.

Abstract

A concept map is deemed a useful teaching and learning tool. It offers many potential advantages over just representing the students’ knowledge and understanding during learning, and have been widely used to support learning. Kit-Build concept map is one learning framework that incorporate digital concept map for its learning activities. Learning with Kit-Build concept map has been found to have better learning effects towards students' understanding and knowledge retention. Incorporating Kit-Build concept map into collaborative learning have been reported to have better outcome than the traditional collaborative learning. However, collaborative learning with Kit-Build concept map cannot be accomodated with the current Kit-Build system where learning activity is conducted online. This study presents the design and development of online collaborative learning platform of Kit-Build Concept Map. A prototype of the collaboration system to support collaborative learning with Kit-Build concept map is developed and be evaluated to portray its potential usability for further development and practical use. The result suggested that incorporating Socket.IO as a real-time communication middleware is effective to deliver online collaborative learning features into the Kit-Build system. Preliminary evaluation to the system also suggested that the system has the potential for actual use in supporting distant collaborative learning with Kit-Build concept map.

Abstract

Most of failures of startup application in many countries reached 75%, while the startup failures in Indonesia reached 90%. These failures were caused by non-technical or management factors in managing startup. The RPL (Software Engineering) Laboratory of FILKOM of Brawijaya University has a roadmap to develop an application to guarantee the success of a management software project. The data analysis had been performed on FILKOM student’s thesis work which generally develops software that has main obstacle in the management. A study solution which was developed through scientific SDLC and PMLC combined with Scrum method becomes an application named SPM-SCRUM. The results of analysis carried out on several software development projects refer to the Iterative SDPM process. Furthermore, the strategy of Iterative SDPM combined with Scrum method produces a system architecture design that separates the Front End and Back End

Abstract

The main cause of energy wastage in cloud data centres is the low level of server utilization. Low server utilization is a consequence of allocating more resources than required for running applications. For instance, in Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) public clouds, cloud service providers (CSPs) deliver computing resources in the form of virtual machines (VMs) templates, which the cloud users have to choose from. More often, inexperienced cloud users tend to choose bigger VMs than their application requirements. To address the problem of inefficient resources utilization, the existing approaches focus on VM allocation and migration, which only leads to physical machine (PM) level optimization. Other approaches use horizontal auto-scaling, which is not a visible solution in the case of IaaS public cloud. In this paper, we propose an approach of customizing user VM’s size to match the resources requirements of their application workloads based on an analysis of real backend traces collected from a VM in a production data centre. In this approach, a VM is given fixed size resources that match applications workload demands and any demand that exceeds the fixed resource allocation is predicted and handled through vertical VM auto-scaling. In this approach, energy consumption by PMs is reduced through efficient resource utilization. Experimental results obtained from a simulation on CloudSim Plus using GWA-T-13 Materna real backend traces shows that data center energy consumption can be reduced via efficient resource utilization
