Abstract

The dynamics of Indonesia-Malaysia relations are influenced by the political growth of the two countries. Since the beginning of the Independence Era, there have been many ups and downs between the two countries. The recent ‘conflict’ centred on cultural issues, more specifically on the claims of certain cultural features such as songs, dances, batik, and cuisine. This study explained the reality of online media development in both countries, especially those related to Indonesian culture in Malaysia. This research used qualitative methods with a case study approach. Data were collected through interview, observation, and study of literature techniques. The results revealed that the construction of reality presented by the media was generally only seen from an Indonesian perspective, not much from a Malaysian perspective. Although the social reality of Malaysia’s ‘cultural claims’ did not reflect the thinking of all Indonesians, this conflict was actually driven more by a small group of Indonesians whose loyalty is unclear. Unlike the Indonesian media, Malaysian media did not consider art and culture originating from Indonesia as an important issue. So, the problem was not widely reported. Malaysian media believed that Indonesian media was exaggerating the fact and that it was only in the interest of the mass media to find exciting news to publish.

Abstract

“SDM Unggul Indonesia Maju” became the theme of the 74th anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia in 2019. It is clear that the focus of the government under the leadership of President Joko Widodo is to develop human resources (HR) who can compete globally in the era of the industrial revolution 4.0, including the state civil apparatus (ASN). The applicable regulations require ASN to have technical competence because digital expertise is one of the skills that is very much needed now. However, there are no standard measurements related to digital expertise. To fill this gap, this research tried to develop a digital literacy framework for ASN which consists of three dimensions: the dimension of knowledge, the dimension of digital expertise, and the dimension of behaviour. We conducted an online survey at the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology with the result that 44.9 per cent of the 752 respondents had a good level of digital literacy. However, there were still 13.7 per cent of respondents who have a low level of digital literacy.

Abstract

In the Philippines, sports sponsorship has already found its way, as companies invest in sponsoring a team or creating their brand of league. In volleyball, a pizza chain created an entire volleyball league, even though its products are not connected with sports nor even a healthy option food. This study was conducted in a Philippines private university whose total population was 2,200 during the time of the study. Slovin’s Formula was used to select 338 respondents. Mediation analysis was done to explore the direct and indirect effects between the independent and dependent variables. Regression analysis was also conducted to test the prediction of the latent variables. Based on the result, constructs of sports consumer behaviour (Involvement, Sport Attachment, Brand Image, Word of Mouth, and Purchase Intentions) in sports sponsorship activity could be effective in the Philippine setting. It can be lauded that, sports attachment, brand image, income and educational attainment could profoundly influence word of mouth and purchase intention separately. This means that respondents who have sports attachments, perspectives on brand image, certain educational attainment levels, and middle and upper disposable income can be useful whether they are exposed to the brand as long as the sports sponsor can turn into a brand ambassador who can provide testimonials to the brand or people who can contribute to brand sales.
