Abstract

This research focuses on designing and creating a prototype safety device for horizontal milling machines using the Design Thinking method. The study addresses the significant safety concerns in manufacturing environments, particularly the risks associated with operating milling machines, including exposure to metal fragments and direct contact with cutting tools. Through a structured approach following the five stages of Design Thinking (Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Test), the researchers developed a flexible safety device tailored to the specific needs of milling machine operators. The prototype was designed to protect operators from metal debris and direct contact with cutting tools while maintaining visibility and productivity. The effectiveness of the prototype was evaluated using the System Usability Scale (SUS) method, with surveys conducted among 30 respondents comprising laboratory assistants and students with experience operating horizontal milling machines. The results showed an average SUS score of 69.25, categorizing the safety device as "Good" according to SUS standards, with 66.7% of respondents rating it positively. The successful implementation of this safety device demonstrates the value of user-centered design approaches in addressing workplace safety challenges. Recommendations include further design refinements, standardization for similar machine tools, training programs, material research for improved comfort, and broader implementation across educational laboratories and small industries.

Abstract

Pertamina gas stations have an important role in the national economy. Optimizing performance in this sector is very necessary to improve Pertamina's internal performance, optimize state revenue, and increase customer satisfaction. At the motorcycle Pertalite filling work station, long queues often occur. This study aims to evaluate the current fuel filling work method, so that optimization analysis and improvement proposals can be carried out. The methods used are time study and MOST. The results of the time study from observations of 300 respondents from 15 gas stations in Yogyakarta are that the average working time of respondents is 33.78 seconds with a normal time of 33.19 seconds and a standard time of 44.85 seconds. While the results of processing using MOST obtained a TMU value of 810 if converted into seconds to 29.16 seconds. Furthermore, an analysis and improvement proposal were carried out which gave a working time result of 19 seconds, with a normal time of 18.62 seconds and a standard time of 25.19 seconds. Things that need to be improved in the process of filling Pertalite fuel for motorbikes are to prepare the motorbike with the seat and tank already open in 1 queue before the work station, make payments during the filling process, and move the motorbike immediately after the filling process is complete (closing the tank and seat is done outside the work station).

Abstract

This research is conducted in SMEs engaged in the convection of children's and adult clothing. The problems in this study related to the optimization of the layout of the facility. The study aims to determine and compare the distance of moving materials before and after designing the layout of the facility and determining the layout of the facilities obtained by the From to Chart (FTC) method and the Layout Design Program Algorithm method. (ALDEP). The researchers took this problem to study because the production process flow from Adelian convection is still not optimal due to the large number of alternating material flows that cause swelling in material handling costs, resulting in less effective and efficient work. The results of the study using the FTC method obtained that the distance for the movement of goods for the initial layout from the process starting to storage is 624 m. The distance of the movement of goods for the proposal layout from the start of the process to storage is 437 m. Therefore, there is a reduction in the distance between facilities from the start of the process to the storage of goods by 187 m. The results of the study using the ALDEP method could cost material handling costs of 30.01% from the comparison between OMH/month in the initial layout, which was Rp.26. 947,778 with OMH/month from the proposal layout, which was Rp. 18,861,310.8, so there was a decrease in OMH/month by Rp. 8,086,467.2.

Abstract

Indonesia as a developing country has become a country with a systematic infrastructure focus, with constant infrastructure growth making Indonesia a development country. Infrastructure, especially in the context of building or construction, has a linear relationship with the condition of construction workers, where construction workers are one of the main driving forces in the sustainability of development in Indonesia. However, the central role of this worker is not always followed by the worker's obedience to the applicable regulations in this case K3 construction. Work accidents in the construction sector increase every year, recorded as many as 114,148 throughout 2018 although it decreased to 77,295 cases in 2019, not diminishing the indication that construction workers should receive special treatment to reduce the number of work accidents. The development of technology is the basis for thinking for innovation in making platforms to cover almost every aspect of life, so the implementation of technology in an effort to provide special education to construction workers is expected to be optimal. The design of this concept uses participatory design and usability testing, to involve workers and stakeholders directly in the design process. The output of this research is an application concept design along with the percentage of effectiveness and efficiency that has gone through a pilot test process to end users, in this case construction workers and other stakeholders
