<![CDATA[This research is a kind of survey and aims to find out and analyze empirically the effect of reading habit and vocabulary mastery towards student’s reading comprehension. The observed population of this research in state senior high school students in Central Jakarta. The sample was gained through simple random sampling. The gained data was then analyzed by using correlation technique and multiple regressions. Previously, the prerequisite tests before examining the regression test must be accomplished, such as normality test and linearity test. The result of this research is there are any significant effects of reading habit and vocabulary mastery altogether towards students’ reading comprehension at State Senior High School in Central Jakarta]]>

<![CDATA[Stand-up comedy is a popular phenomenon entertainment featuring a solo performer, called as Comic who narrates a comical story in front of live audiences. Since it was first developed in the United States, stand-up comedy has been flourishing all over the world. Stand-up comedy programs have become the most interesting television shows in Indonesia. It could be seen by the number of programs in some local television channels. One of them is SUCI (Indonesian Stand-up Comedy) broadcasted by Kompas TV. SUCI is a stand-up comedy competition purposes to seek the best Indonesian Comic. This paper aims to analyze the sequential organization of three Indonesian Comics who performed in Grand Final SUCI season five. Using the serial sequential organization proposed by Scarpetta and Spagnolli (2009) as the theoretical framework, this study outlines the narrative of the stand-up comedy’s texts and seeks whether there is a difference between the three finalists of SUCI 5 in delivering their narratives.]]>

<![CDATA[Abstrak - Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mencari bias gender yang terdapat pada hasil terjemahan buku cerita anak di bandingankan dengan hasil terjemahan google translate. Dalam penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Sumber data dalam penelitian ini adalah dongeng Bawang Merah dan Bawang Putih yang diterjemahkan dan diceritakan kembali oleh Gibran Maulana dan diterjemahkan melalui aplikasi Google Translate Hasil penerjemahan antara Google Translate dan penerjemah hampir sama yaitu mengenai nama tokoh, nama ganti orang dan nama ganti kepemilikan. Pada aplikasi Google Translate dapat melakukan kesalahan karena konteks, budaya, nama orang, dan kata ganti orang tidak dapat terbaca dalam aplikasi tersebut. sedangakan hasil terjemahan dari penerjemah mengalami human error. Penerjemah dalam buku cerita anak masih belum bisa lepas dari pengaruh ideologi patriarki yang dapat ditujukkan dalam peran gender tradisional yang digambarkan yang membuat peran laki-laki lebih unggul daripada perempuan. Kata Kunci: bias gender, cerita dongeng, google translate Abstract - This study aims to look for gender biases found in the results of the translation of children's storybooks in light with the results of the google translate translation. In this study using a qualitative descriptive method. The data source in this study is the fairy tale of Bawang Merah and Bawang Putih which were translated and retold by Gibran Maulana and translated through the Google Translate application. The results of the translation between Google Translate and the translator are almost the same, namely regarding the names of characters, people's names and ownership names. The Google Translate application can make mistakes because the context, culture, people's names, and pronouns cannot be read in the application. while the translation results from translators experienced human error. Translators in children's story books still cannot be separated from the influence of patriarchal ideology which can be shown in traditional gender roles which are described which make the role of men superior to women. <![CDATA[Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis implikatur pada berita terjemahan pada situs berita BBCIndonesia.com dengan membandingkan dengan situs berita aslinya BBC.com. Dengan menggunakan metode analisis teks, penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dan berparadigma konstruktivis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan implikatur memiliki peran yang sangat signifikan dalam proses penerjemahan. Pemahaman terhadap implikatur melalui prinsip kerja sama Grice menjadikan proses penerjemahan lebih memperhatikan keseimbangan makna antara bahasa sumber dan bahasa sasaran. Itu dikarenakan proses penerjemahan merupakan bentuk komunikasi antara penerjemah dengan pembacanya.]]>

<![CDATA[Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kesalahan ejaan dan kesalahan kalimat dalam surat izin siswa MTs Al-Muslimun Kawistolegi. Penelitian ini tergolong penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Data penelitian ini adalah kesalahan ejaan dan kesalahan kalimat dalam surat izin siswa MTs Al-Muslimun Kawistolegi. Pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan teknik tes, teknik simak, dan teknik catat dengan instrumen penelitian berupa soal tes perintah menulis surat izin kepada siswa dan lembar korpus data. Metode simak adalah cara yang digunakan untuk memperoleh data dilakukan dengan menyimak penggunaan bahasa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan hal-hal sebagai berikut. Dalam surat izin siswa MTs Al-Muslimun Kawistolegi terdapat kesalahan ejaan berupa kesalahan penulisan kata dasar, kesalahan pemakaian huruf kapital, kesalahan penulisan kata depan, kesalahan penulisan singkatan, dan kesalahan pemakaian tanda baca titik dan koma. Kesalahan kalimat yang ditemukan dalam penelitian ini adalah kalimat tidak gramatikal karena tidak adanya subjek dan predikat dan kalimat tidak hemat karena adanya kata yang tidak jelas fungsinya serta adanya dua kata yang sama maknanya sama.]]>

<![CDATA[On 25 September 2019, Indonesia Lawyers Club (ILC) have made themes Rancangan Kitab Undang Undang Hukum Pidana controversy or RKUHP controversy. ILC discusses several chapters that invite the pros and cons in the interpersonal community of the article concerning the insult to the President and Vice President, article on the possession of supernatural powers to commit a criminal offense, article on poultry breeding, article on demonstrating contraceptives, articles on abortion, and other. In the critical paradigm, the use of language in the media is intentional and has a specific purpose. Seeing this, researchers are interested in seeing the discourse built in the talk show. The researchers used a critical discourse analysis technique model (Teun van Dijk) and found that ILC built a discourse that article RKUHP serves the interests of the Government. The RKUHP intervenes in the privacy of the community, and RKUHP discriminates against certain groups. This discourse also shows the definition and positioning of the ILC position on the participants of the production discourse. ILC placed Karni Iliyas as the dominant moderator so that his reality could be accepted by the public as truth. using the technique of text analysis, social cognition, and context, researchers found a discourse built by ILC confirming the view that the RKUHP invites pros and cons in society. Researchers have also found that the ILC conversion of the RKUHP is influenced by government interests.]]>

<![CDATA[Abstrak - Penelitian ini membahas variasi leksikal di Kabupaten Kebumen pada tataran leksikon. Kabupaten Kebumen secara geografis terletak diantara Kabupaten Banyumas dengan dialek ngapak dan Kabupaten Purworejo dengan dialek bandek. Titik pengamatan dalam penelitian ini sebanyak 5 desa yang merupakan daerah-daerah yang berada dekat dengan perbatasan Kabupaten Banyumas dan Kabupaten Purworejo yaitu Desa Rowokele, Desa Bumiagung, Desa Pejagoan, Desa Kutowinangun, Desa Tunggalroso. Pengumpulan data menggunakan metode simak dan cakap. Data-data yang telah terkumpul kemudian dianalisis menggunakan metode padan dengan teknik hubung banding membedakan dan teknik hubung banding menyamakan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ditemukan variasi leksikon di Kabupaten Kebumen. Variasi leksikon meliputi gejala onomasiologis dan semasiologis. Variasi leksikal dipengaruhi oleh letak geografis pada titik daerah pengamatan. Selain itu ditemukan juga ternyata leksikon-leksikon tersebut dalam penggunaanya disesuaikan dengan kapan, diamana, dan kepada siapa mereka bertutur, jadi hal ini juga cukup mempengaruhi satu varisai leksikal digunakan di wilayah yang berbeda. karena Kabupaten Kebumen cukup mendapat pengaruh kedua Kabupaten yaitu Banyumas dan Purworejo, jadi tuturan-tuturan yang digunakan terkadang saling bertukar dan dipahami oleh masing-masing penutur maupun mitra tuturnya. <![CDATA[Literary works have attracted more attention as a pedagogical instrument in enhancing vocabulary in recent years. Short stories refer to the learning media that is applied by the teacher to help the student in improving student’s vocabulary based on the context of reading a certain text. The Increased interest in a student-centered approach makes this short story received attention from a variety of studies. In the case of students must be more active in the learning process.The activity lets the students explore various new words, the content of the story and also sentence structure. The focus of the activity is to define and understand the words in a specific context based on the content of the text. This paper is a literature review from a previous study of short stories in English as a Second / Foreign Language context (ESL / EFL). The ten short story studies from the last ten years were widely reviewed and systematically analyzed. A short story from the study reviewed is about the quality of student vocabulary results in the context of EFL / ESL due to understanding vocabulary plays an important role in learning English. As a critical review paper of these studies, this paper highlights the obstacles faced during a teaching in improving vocabulary and the practicality of short stories as an effective pedagogical instrument in improving vocabulary. <![CDATA[ Linguistics is a science study about the using of language and its provisions inside. Historically, linguistics comes from Latin language "lingua" which means "language", in English "language" and in French it is known as "Parole" which means "utterance".To make it easier in learning and mastering linguistics, linguistics is divided into several branches of science, namely: Morphology, Phonology, Syntax, Pragmatics, semiotics, and Semantics. Linguistics focuses on human language as communitaion tool and all its aspects within it as a universal unit.This study the writer only focuses on phonetic study for long and short vowels sound in an English song lyrick. Through understanding phonetic in English song lyrick. In phonetic study, long and short vowels sound pronounciation can affected the meaning of the words. So do In English song lyricks.The result of the analysis that English song lyrick chosen is dominted by long vowels sound; /ɑ:/, /i:/, /u:/, and /aɪ/.]]>

<![CDATA[This research aims at investigating the composing of the portmanteau word in food and beverage names or brands in Indonesia referring to the types of blending in the source word proposed by John Algeo. Based on the linguistic and cultural view, the fact shows the name or brand of foods and beverages carry their characteristics, identities, and motives in its usage. The descriptive qualitative method is applied in this study by collecting the English food and beverage name or brand taken from offline and online searching. Offline data is searched by the observation in Mall, shop, and restaurant. Online data is gained from the internet web starting from March up to May. The collected data from online and offline is tabulated all together into types of blending then shorted the source word to reveal the structure of the word class and its phonology. This study brings out the results of the blending process into 4 categories: Complex Clipped Word, Back Clipped Word, The combination of Fore and Back Clipped Word, and Phonemic Overlapping and Clipping. The culture contained in the portmanteau words (the English foods and beverages name) is revealed in the origins of the source words (Borrowing word). They are 13 borrowed words are composed of the name of English foods and beverages. This study is important to develop the fundamental aspects of blending in English food and beverages in Indonesia by looking at the linguistic view and its relation to cultural view.]]>
