Abstract

Islam has comprehensive roles in some aspects of human activity. It enlarged from theological aspect to political aspects. Some former colonized countries where Islam was coexisted, this religion became an embryo of nationalist movements during colonization era. This essay scrutinizes the role of Islam in escalating nationalism during colonization era and it relation with the states in post colonization era in four former colonized countries namely Brunei Darussalam, India, Indonesia, and Malaysia. By using comparative method, the essay researched some main literature (library research) related to Islam and nationalism. It was founded that Islam has significant roles in nationalist movement in the four analyzed countries through several channels. Meanwhile, in the post-independence era, the relation between Islam and state system are variably. In India, Islam is separated from state system (secular). In contrast, Islamic ideology became the main sources of state system in Brunei Darussalam (adopted entirely) and Malaysia (adopted partially). Then, Islam in Indonesia seems like “a gray zone” because the country does not using Islamic law but still adopting Islamic thoughts in several cases.

Abstract

The concept of God is a fundamental concept for every religion, especially Islam.  The concept of God in Islam is different from other religions, even emerging from the time of the Greek philosophical tradition and Eastern and Western mystical traditions.  Not a few Muslims state that all religions are the same God. This is a problem for the religions of this world.  Therefore, Sa’id Nursi clearly stated that the concept of God according to Islam is different from the concept of God according to other religions.  The method used by the writer is descriptive and analytical.  In this case, Badi'uzzaman has a perspective on the concept of God.  God, according to Badi'uzzaman, is one immanent and radiates his light into the universe, thus creating the greatness of the universe and its contents, which is often called Tauhīd.  Nursi understands monotheism as the basis of ideology and epistemology viewing the universe.  So, Nursi's concept of divinity emphasizes the monotheistic aspect, in contrast to the esoteric and exoteric sides.

Abstract

This article will present the general description of hermeneutical approach, including historical background and phenomenon in understanding the text as well as the Qur’ân. This article will try to portray hermeneutical approach in interpreting Qur’ân which has been discussed by many scholars. It found that hermeneutical approach is an alternative method to understand Qur’ân or even Hadis. It may give a new spirit in developing Qur’ân in terms of its long-lasting values.  Many modern scholars have undoubtedly struggled to show that Qur’ân will be more ‘up-to date’ and compatible with the current issues in modern life if we are open to new approach to it. However, not all scholars agree with this method since they believe that Qur’ân is a sacred book which cannot be approached by whatever Western methods, especially hermeneutics. Even, they condemn that the people apply such a method can be categorized as infidel.

Abstract

This article aims to examine the use of religious reading books as a medium for the dissemination of radical ideologies in educational institutions. The role of the book as a window of knowledge is undoubted, but the book as a disseminator of radicalism also gets justification. Hardline Islamic groups have used certain reading books as justifiers and reinforcement of the radical notions believed. The contents of the book are then taught and indoctrinated to students and students by teachers through a single interpretation and normative-scriptural approach

Abstract

This study aims to determine the systematic and fundamental philosophical foundation of Walisongo State Islamic University (UIN). This research uses a philosophical and historical approach and content analysis method to obtain information in depth. Begins with data collection through literature studies, documents are related to it. The scientific integration of the Unity of Sciences paradigm in the scientific cluster being developed contains three strategies that try to answer. The first is the science of religion that is not down to earth or lacks benefits for the wider community. Then the second is when modern sciences are tasteless and value-free. The last is the local culture which began to fade with the development of modernization. These problems will be answered with the humanization of Islamic sciences, the spiritualization of modern sciences, and the revitalization of local wisdom. Scientific development in the clumps of Islamic sciences produces religious knowledge following the times, not rigid and friendly to local wisdom. Meanwhile, the natural sciences and social humanities are planted with spiritual values. Thus, this research can be used as a stepping stone or a model for scientific integration at the State Islamic Institute (IAIN) to shift to the State Islamic University (UIN).

Abstract

This paper traces the roots of the scientific tradition of astronomy in a classical century that marked the rise of Islamic civilization in the midst of Western darkness in a philosophical-historical perspective. The study focussed on translation activities in the eighth century to the peak of astronomical scientific activity that is divided into two major schools; the astronomical-mathematical school of the East and the astronomical-philosophical schools of the Western world to the Islamic Caliphate. The Greek astronomical tradition is basically dominated by Aristotelian thought that states that the universe is organized into a set of concentric spheres each carrying a star and spinning around the earth. The Earth is still and becomes the center of the universe. Ptolemy adopted the two basic principles of Aristotle, ie the earth dwells at the center of the universe and the motion of heavenly bodies must be represented by a set of perfectly uniform circular motions. From the results of historical studies on the development of Muslim astronomy in the classical century can be seen that the peak of scientific progress in the Western world can not be separated from the point of zenit for the advancement of science developed by Muslim scientists. Efforts made by Western scientists in enriching the astronomical treasury is inseparable from the step of translation through intensive scientific studies that gave birth to a variety of monumental works in the history of astronomy.

Abstract

The presence of the new Islamic civil society movement, which is generally represented by the salafism ideology, is a challenge for mainstream Islamic organizations such as NU and Muhammadiyah. The new Islamic civil group called the splinter moves massively in four main social domains, namely private, public, market, and state. By using a qualitative method based on the sociological approach, this article will answer how the struggle between the mainstream Islamic civil groups and splinter civil groups in these four domains. This study concludes that the discourse of Islamic civil society in Indonesia today is very complex. Discourse does not only occur between state and non-state, but also between fellow Islamic civil groups. They contest each other in developing the private sphere, showing their existence in the public sphere, controlling and developing economic/market resources, and involving themselves in government/politics. Each group has their respective strategies in displaying their role so that it often causes friction. This condition requires open communication, mutual understanding and cooperation between all Islamic civil groups.

Abstract

This article is a study of the relationship between Islam Aboge with other Muslims. There is a significant difference between the two groups, namely the calculation of the date, month and year. The Islamist Aboge uses the Aboge Almanac which is not the same as the Hijri almanac. The implication is the determination of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, which is never in conjunction with Muslims in general, either using the method of rukyat or hisab. However, their relationship remains harmonious. The relationship between the two is seen in the activities of worship and social life. They understand each other and understand their beliefs. The interactions between Aboge adherents and and other Muslims take places in many sites, such as village hall and fields. Factors supporting the harmonious relationship between the two groups are religious understanding, joint activities, and tolerance.---Artikel ini merupakan kajian tentang hubungan antara aliran Islam Aboge dengan umat Islam lainnya.
