Abstract

This study integrates Aristotelian, Islamic, and Pancasila ethics to formulate an operational framework for fostering "just and civilized" character within Indonesia’s plural society. Using a qualitative philosophical approach and systematic literature review, the research employs descriptive-interpretative, comparative, and integrative synthesis analyses. Findings reveal distinct moral orientations: Aristotelian ethics emphasizes immanent practical rationality, Islamic ethics is grounded in transcendent spiritual growth, and Pancasila functions as a public normative ethic. The novelty of this research lies in its departure from "eclectic aggregation"; instead, it proposes a multi-layered integrative model that harmonizes practical wisdom (phronesis), spiritual purification (tazkiyat al-nafs), and social cooperation (gotong royong) without compromising the epistemological integrity of each tradition. Practically, this framework provides a robust conceptual roadmap for character education and public policy in Indonesia, offering a middle ground that bridges religious-transcendental values with secular-rational virtues to enhance social cohesion in a diverse national context. By positioning individual virtue as the foundation and the common good as the ultimate orientation, this synthesis ensures that Pancasila ethics remains a relevant and applicable moral guide for modern Indonesian society.

Abstract

China’s growing influence in Southeast Asia has increasingly been exercised not only through material power, but also through international communication and discursive practices that shape regional norms and perceptions. Existing studies on China’s rise tend to privilege economic and strategic explanations, often overlooking the communicative processes through which hegemony is constructed and legitimized. Addressing this gap, this article examines China’s regional influence from a neo-Gramscian perspective, focusing on international communication as an arena of hegemonic consolidation and contestation. This study aims to analyze how China articulates hegemonic narratives in Southeast Asia and how Indonesia responds through communication-based counter-diplomacy. Using a qualitative case study approach, this study analyzes secondary data consisting of policy documents, diplomatic statements, media coverage, and digital diplomacy materials published between 2014 and 2024. The data are examined through discourse analysis, framing analysis, and qualitative content analysis to identify patterns of hegemonic narratives and counter-narratives. The findings show that China’s hegemony operates through the integration of material initiatives such as the Belt and Road Initiative and the Global Security Initiative—with discursive strategies that normalize Chinese leadership. Indonesia responds through adaptive counter-diplomacy that emphasizes international communication, ASEAN centrality, and inclusive regional norms to preserve narrative autonomy under conditions of asymmetric interdependence. The study demonstrates that counter-hegemonic practices in contemporary regional politics increasingly rely on communicative and symbolic strategies rather than overt confrontation.

Abstract

Urban food security has become a critical developmental challenge, particularly in rapidly urbanizing regions where traditional governance structures struggle to address systemic vulnerabilities. This study aims to examine the institutional challenges and coordination mechanisms of food security governance in Pekanbaru City, while identifying the socio-economic determinants of household food insecurity. Using a convergent parallel mixed-method design, quantitative data from 788 households (SUSENAS 2022) were analyzed through multinomial logistic regression, complemented by a qualitative SWOT analysis involving 18 key stakeholders. Findings reveal that while 77.79% of households are food secure, significant pockets of vulnerability persist. Severe food insecurity is primarily driven by an absence of savings (OR=0.285) and high food expenditure ratios (OR=0.277), while moderate insecurity is strongly linked to poverty status (OR=7.987) and female-headed households (OR=0.320). Institutional analysis identifies strengths in dedicated agencies but highlights critical weaknesses in cross-sector coordination and regulatory frameworks. The study proposes a "Turned Around" strategic framework focusing on policy acceleration and community-based institutional optimization. These results underscore the necessity of shifting from top-down government to collaborative multi-stakeholder governance to enhance urban food resilience in resource-constrained environments.

Abstract

This study examines how the rapid expansion of the urban culinary industry shapes tourists’ preferences for local and foreign cuisine within the context of urban gastronomic destinations. the research aims to analyse tourist behaviour in selecting culinary offerings in the Blok M area by applying the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) framework and identifying key determinants influencing such preferences. A descriptive quantitative approach was employed using accidental sampling of 111 domestic tourists visiting the area between September and November 2025. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire using a five-point Likert scale and analysed using frequency distribution, mean score analysis, and cross-tabulation techniques to examine relationships between demographic characteristics and culinary preferences. The findings reveal that the culinary landscape in Blok M is predominantly characterised by foreign cuisine (68%), with the majority of respondents (59.5%) expressing a preference for international food options, particularly among younger tourists aged 17–35 years. In contrast, tourists aged above 36 years demonstrate a stronger preference for local cuisine. Based on TPB analysis, perceived behavioural control (mean = 4.31) emerges as the most influential construct in shaping purchase intention, followed by subjective norms (4.19) and attitudes (4.11).
