Abstract

The government's demand to improve the quality of production and business development not in accordance with a condition of development of seaweed cultivation in Bantaeng Regency, South Sulawesi as a center for seaweed development, which is still relatively low. The low production and quality were influenced by various factors. This study aims were to identify the structure of the seaweed supply chain, analyze post-harvest handling, and describe the quality of seaweed in Bantaeng Regency. The total sample of 27 respondents taken by purposive sampling. This research used a qualitative descriptive approach and SWOT analysis. The results showed that the seaweed supply chain business actors in Bantaeng Regency were still in the open market negotiation process with their respective roles. Farmers play a role in seaweed farming activities, traders collectors play a role as an intermediary for information. Providers of capital for farmers and the quality of seaweed in this area is still relatively low.

Abstract

Bacterial wilt is one of the most important diseases due to the difficulty of its control and its effect on the production of many economically valuable plants throughout the world. Ralstonia solanacearum bacteria which later will be better known as Ralstonia solanacearum species complex has a very wide range of host plants. More than 400 species of plants from 50 botanical families, including important plants that are cultivated in Indonesia such as potatoes, tomatoes, eggplants, tobacco, cloves and bananas. This review discusses the epidemiology of diseases caused by R. solanacearum, development of R. solanacearum species complex and mechanisms of action in disease management based on chemical, biological, cultivation and physical methods.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the potential and benefits of medicinal plants found in production forests in Sinoa District, Bantaeng Regency. The type of data collected was quantitative and qualitative data, including types and quantities of medicinal plants, local names, parts of plants used, and types of diseases that can be treated with these plants. Vegetation analysis results showed that the diversity of medicinal plants as many as 13 species from 10 families. Vegetation which has the greatest potential at the level of the tree namely Pinus (Pinus mercusii) with a potential of 194, at the pole level was Avocado (Persea gratissima) with a potential of 100, at the sapling level namely Coffee (Coffea arabica) with a potential of 640, and at the seedling level ie Bandotan (Ageratum conyzoides) with the greatest potential is 17500. Plant parts that utilized were leaves, roots, fruits, seeds, sap, and bark. All of these parts used to treat diseases such as shortness of breath, headache, toothache, cough, diarrhea, fever, malaria, high blood pressure, diabetes, suppurating ulcers, beriberi, immune system, festering skin inflammation, and increasing brain intelligence. Besides that it can treat kidney stones, wounds, sore throat, eye medication, dry the wound, neutralize the poison boils, canker sores, bruises, swelling, and sprains.

Abstract

Uripmulyo Gapoktan is an association for farmer groups in Parerejo Village, which consists of Uripmulyo I, Uripmulyo II, Uripmulyo III, Mulyo Tani, Suka Makmur and Tani Makmur Farmers groups. This farmer group has a population of 464 cattles. In addition, in the Parerejo Village, there was a tofu factory and rice mill industry, whose waste is not utilized as a beef cattle ration. Farmers only provide forage feed, so it is necessary to carry out counseling activities on the manufacture of rations based on local ingredients, in the form of materials that were easily found by local farmers or potential feed ingredients in Parerejo Village. These feed ingredients include grass, tofu dregs, and rice bran and additional premixes. This study was conducted on 50 beef cattle breeders who were incorporated into the Uripmulyo Gapoktan taken randomly. The aim was to find out the knowledge, attitudes, and skills of breeders towards making rations based on local ingredients for beef cattle feed in Gapoktan Uripmulyo, Parerejo Village, Purwodadi District, Pasuruan Regency. The method used in this study includes four stages, namely (1) counseling in class, (2) counseling with demonstration methods, (3) counseling practice / out class (4) evaluation. The extension media used were (1) powerpoint slides, (2) folders, (3) videos and (4) real objects. Analysis techniques used in behavioral measurement include, (1) knowledge using interval techniques, (2) attitude measurement using T-score techniques and (3) observational skills measurements and analyzed using interval techniques. The results of the implementation showed that the level of knowledge of farmers was 76% in the good category, attitudes of farmers showed 74% received, and the level of skills of farmers showed 86% were very skilled at the material presented, about how to make rations based on local ingredients for beef cattle feed.

Abstract

Chili cannot be stored for a long time in a fresh condition because it was a living structure that is still carrying out metabolic reactions. Chili after harvesting still maintains the physiological system as it was still attached to the plant. Metabolic reactions will trigger chili damage quickly. The efforts to prevent this should be made to maintain the quality and shelf life of chilies by minimizing metabolic processes, such as suppressing the rate of respiration through regulating the environmental conditions of storage and use of preservatives. The study aimed to determine the effect of concentration of NaCl and citric acid on the shelf life and quality of chili. The study was arranged using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with a combination of types and concentrations of preservatives. with the treatment of NaCl concentrations of 1%, 2%, 3%, and Citric Acid respectively 1%, 2%, 3%. The parameters observed were weight loss, shelf life, texture, total microbes, and vitamin C content. The results showed that the use of preservatives significantly affected the shelf life and quality of cayenne pepper. The preservative NaCl 3% given a better effect on cayenne pepper, in terms of the lowest weight loss of 22.8%, the maximum shelf life of 78 days, the number of microbes 12 cfu/g sample, and the texture is rather soft after storage.

Abstract

Pidie district is one of the producers of capture fisheries in Aceh Province with a number of fishermen reaching 1,019. Sea fishing activities are open access causing concern to the stock of fish resources in the waters. Many fishing operations that use fishing gear that are not environmentally friendly if not managed properly will cause fish resources to decline or overfishing. This study aims to identified environmentally friendly fishing tools based on the Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries (CCRF) in Pidie District. This research was conducted in March 2019 in the waters of Pidie District. Data collection was done by interview and direct observation in the field. Analysis of the environmental friendliness of fishing gear based on weighting the score with the Analysis Hiercy Process (AHP) method. The results showed that the fishing gear included in the category of very environmentally friendly, namely; handline, longline, gillnet, and purse seine. While the fishing gear category is not environmentally friendly, namely; Modified beach seine and beach seine.

Abstract

Changes in rainfall with high humidity due to La Nina can be one of the factors that can affect the quality of the yield of horticultural products. La Nina simulation was done by soaking snake fruits in water for a certain time. The aimed of this research was to examine the effect of La Nina carried out using simulations on several quality parameters of snake fruits. This research used a non-factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with two treatments, fruit without soaking and fruit soaked for 5 minutes (La Nina simulation). The treatment was repeated three times. Observations were made at 0 days, 3 days, 6 days and 9 days. The La Nina simulation treatment with 5 minutes soaking affected the quality of snake fruits, which shown by the decreasing in the physical appearance of the fruit, the hardness of the fruit, and the total acid content of the fruit. In general, a decrease in some qualities of snake fruits occurs on the 6th to 9th day of storage.
