Abstract

Indonesia faces the threat of sanctions under the Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA), enacted by President Donald Trump on August 2, 2017, particularly concerning the procurement of Sukhoi Su-35 fighter jets from Russia. Employing a neorealist theoretical framework that underscores the significance of power distribution and national interests within an anarchic international system, this study analyzes how Indonesia, as a regional actor, responds to external pressures from global hegemonic powers. The findings reveal that Indonesia adopts a wait-and-see strategy as a form of structural adaptation, pursues diversification of defense partners as soft balancing, and bolsters multilateral diplomacy to preserve its bargaining position. This research affirms that, in confronting CAATSA pressures, Indonesia acts as a rational state balancing strategic interests with foreign policy autonomy. The study's outcomes contribute to understanding the dynamics of Indonesia's defense diplomacy amid global geopolitical configurations and the imperative of strategic flexibility in its free and active foreign policy doctrine.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of ROA, DER, and CR on PBV in the coal sector for the period 2018-2024. The analysis uses panel data regression with the CEM method. The results show that, partially, ROA has no significant effect on PBV; DER shows a negative and significant effect on PBV; and CR shows no effect on PBV. However, simultaneously, ROA, DER, and CR were found to influence PBV. These findings indicate that although not all variables have a partial effect, the combination of profitability, leverage, and liquidity still plays a significant role in explaining variations in firm value. This study contributes to the knowledge of investors and management in considering the fundamental factors that influence a company's market value.

Abstract

Microplastics have been identified in rivers that supply raw water, particularly the Batang Merangin River, which supplies 90% of the treated water for Perumda Tirta Merangin. This situation has raised concerns about microplastic contamination in treated water. This study aims to describe the attributes of microplastics at the Water Treatment Plant (WTP) of Perumda Tirta Merangin, Merangin Regency. The study used a quantitative descriptive and experimental approach, examining water samples from each treatment unit (raw water intake, coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, and reservoir) at the Ecoton Laboratory in Gresik. The results identified three categories of microplastics: fibers (47 particles), filaments (38 particles), and fragments (5 particles), for a total of 90 particles. The dominant color of microplastics was blue (39%), with sizes ranging from 2 mm.

Abstract

Waste lubricating oil from hair clipper machines generated by barbershop activities is a hazardous liquid waste containing oil and grease, suspended solids, and can alter the pH of aquatic environments if left untreated. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of utilizing human hair waste as an adsorbent combined with the addition of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in improving the pH parameter of clipper engine oil waste. The research used an experimental method with a Magnetic stirrer at adsorbent weight variations of 5 g, 10 g, and 15 g and contact times of 30, 60, and 90 minutes. The results showed that the initial pH of 6.37 changed after treatment. The condition closest to neutral was obtained at the 10 g variation with a 30-minute contact time, namely pH 6.96 (9.26% efficiency), while the 5 g weight tended to raise the pH to alkaline (pH 8.48) and the 15 g weight lowered the pH to more acidic (pH 6.14). For the Total Suspended Solids (TSS) parameter, the initial value of 3,282.08 mg/L decreased significantly after treatment, with the lowest result at 5 g and a 60-minute contact time, namely 334.16 mg/L (89.82% efficiency). The addition of H2O2 played a role in the oxidation process affecting the pH stability of the treated waste.

Abstract

Alam Barajo Terminal constitutes a public service unit administered by the Class II Jambi Land Transportation Management Center. The substantial vehicular intensity within the precinct has progressively amplified ambient air pollutant levels, most notably carbon monoxide (CO) and acoustic disturbance. This investigation was undertaken to quantify CO concentrations and noise levels in the ambient atmosphere, whilst simultaneously delineating the dispersal pattern of CO concentration at Alam Barajo Terminal employing the AERMOD modelling approach, within a quantitative descriptive research framework. Empirical findings disclosed that CO concentration recorded on Monday between 07.00–08.00 at Point I reached 10,115 µg/Nm³, surpassing the permissible threshold of 10,000 µg/Nm³ as stipulated under Government Regulation Number 22 of 2021. AERMOD dispersion modelling further revealed a maximum CO emission concentration of 48,377 µg/Nm³ in the ambient atmosphere, whilst the minimum concentration registered 10,900 µg/Nm³. Regarding acoustic parameters, the peak noise level was documented on Friday at Point I, reaching 75.5 dBA, whereas the lowest reading was recorded on Monday at Point II at 53.6 dBA, both assessed against the 60 dB(A) quality benchmark prescribed under Minister of Health Regulation No. 2 of 2024.
