Abstract

The Batanghari River is the main raw water source for PERUMDAM Tirta Mayang, Jambi City. However, recent studies have revealed that the Batanghari River is contaminated with microplastics, ranging from 100–150 particles per liter at the intake area. This contamination has the potential to affect the quality of raw water entering the treatment plants. Microplastic contamination was evaluated at the Broni II Scada WTP owned by the Regional Water Company (PERUMDAM) Tirta Mayang in Jambi City, which has a processing capacity of 600 L/second. This 2023 study found 164 microplastic particles in water samples. These particles were predominantly fiber (2,420.1 particles/L) and filament (2,266.6 particles/L), with size variations between 0.00 and 4.00 mm, grouped into four classes, and five color variants (black, red, transparent, white, and yellow). The water treatment process showed fluctuating performance in removing microplastics. The highest decrease in abundance occurred in the sedimentation unit (58.33%), followed by the flocculator unit (29.41%), filtration (20%), the initial stage of raw water to intake (13.95%), and the coagulator unit (8.11%). In contrast, the reservoir unit did not record any removal efficiency. Based on the significance test, size dimension was the only characteristic that significantly influenced microplastic abundance (p < 0.05). Based on the risk index, the PRI value (78.3696 particles/L) placed the study site in the medium risk category, but the PLI value of 23.10 - 169.31 particles/L indicated that the microplastic pollution load in the area had entered the very high category.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the perceptions of university students in Palembang City toward the childfree phenomenon and to identify the factors influencing the formation of these perceptions. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach involving eight university students from various higher education institutions in Palembang City. Participants were selected through purposive and snowball sampling techniques. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and analyzed using the interactive model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the majority of students perceive childfree as a personal right and individual choice; however, they tend not to support its application in their own lives. These perceptions are influenced by cultural and religious values, family expectations, and exposure to information through social media. Although economic considerations and mental readiness are viewed as rational reasons for supporting the childfree choice, strong social norms remain the primary consideration in reproductive decision-making. The findings further reveal that the childfree phenomenon in Palembang City has developed more as a social discourse than as a widespread practice, and therefore has not yet had a significant impact on local demographic dynamics. This study highlights an ongoing process of value negotiation between modernity and tradition in shaping the reproductive preferences of the younger generation.

Abstract

This study was conducted with the aim of determining the relationship between self-disclosure and personal adjustment of out-of-town students from Central Kalimantan. This research is a correlational study using a quantitative approach. The subjects in this study were 50 out-of-town students from Central Kalimantan who were active undergraduate students (S1) studying at Satya Wacana Christian University. Sampling was conducted using a quota sampling technique. The data collection method used a self-disclosure scale, namely The Development of the Self-Disclosure Scale, and for the personal adjustment scale, namely the Multidimensional Adjustment Scale. The data analysis technique used was a prerequisite test that included normality and linearity tests. Based on the results of the study, there is a significant and positive relationship between self-disclosure and personal adjustment in out-of-town students from Kalimantan at Satya Wacana Christian University. This means that the higher the level of self-disclosure carried out by out-of-town students, the higher the success of the individual in making good personal adjustment. Conversely, the lower the level of self-disclosure carried out, the lower the individual's success in being able to make good personal adjustment.

Abstract

This study analyzes the volatility of the USD/IDR exchange rate and the impact of external risks, namely trade war and commodity prices, as well as the role of Bank Indonesia’s (BI) monetary policy during the period from October 20, 2024, to June 18, 2026. Using GARCH(1,1) and GARCH-X models on daily data, the research aims to identify the determinants of rupiah volatility amid global uncertainty. The estimation results reveal that USD/IDR volatility is highly persistent, with α + β values ranging from 0.93 to 0.96. The trade war (19% reciprocal tariffs) and rising commodity prices (Brent crude oil) have a positive and significant effect on increasing volatility. In contrast, successive BI Rate hikes up to 5.50% effectively reduce volatility (negative and significant coefficient). The GARCH-X model outperforms the standard GARCH in capturing external factors. These findings indicate that global uncertainties stemming from the trade war and commodity shocks are the primary drivers of rupiah volatility, while BI’s monetary policy response plays a crucial role in maintaining exchange rate stability. This study offers policy implications for strengthening monetary and structural policy coordination in facing external risks.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the return mechanism of Indonesian Retail Sukuk and evaluate its conformity with Islamic principles. The research employs a qualitative approach using a literature review method by examining academic journals, official government documents, and regulations related to sukuk. The findings indicate that retail sukuk utilizes an ijarah contract with underlying assets in the form of state-owned assets or government projects. The return received by investors is derived from ujrah (rental income) generated from the utilization of these assets, distinguishing it conceptually from interest-based returns in conventional bonds. The existence of underlying assets enhances transparency and ensures compliance with Sharia principles by avoiding elements of riba, gharar, and maysir. However, the fixed-return characteristic of retail sukuk continues to generate discussion regarding its substantive compliance with Islamic principles. This study concludes that retail sukuk formally complies with Sharia requirements through asset-backed structures and valid contracts, although further research is needed to assess its substantive implementation in modern Islamic finance practices.

Abstract

Rubber manufacturing operations inevitably yield effluent and solid residues bearing environmentally detrimental characteristics if left inadequately managed. Valorization of rubber shaving residues into activated carbon represents a compelling remediation pathway. This investigation scrutinized the influence of functional moieties within rubber shaving-derived activated carbon upon rubber mill effluent parameters through an experimental quantitative-qualitative design. Physicochemical attributes were elucidated via FTIR to delineate surface-bound functional assemblages, whilst remediation efficacy was appraised against BOD, TSS, and pH indices. Spectroscopic interrogation revealed oxygen-enriched moieties encompassing hydroxyl (-OH), carbonyl (-C=O), and ether (-C-O) constituents, each exerting a pivotal role in adsorptive mechanisms. Notwithstanding anomalous BOD elevation in non-activated specimens, NaOH 10% activation demonstrably consolidated functional assemblages, substantially curtailing BOD concentrations. This study affirms that rubber shaving-derived activated carbon constitutes an efficacious and ecologically benign adsorbent, wherein judicious activation optimization emerges as the cardinal determinant of successful pollutant abatement.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the level of welfare of livestock farmers in North Sumatra Province and compare it with the welfare of food crop, horticulture, plantation, and fishery farmers based on the Farmer Exchange Rate (NTP) indicator during the 2008–2024 period. The study used a quantitative method with a descriptive analytical approach, utilizing secondary data obtained from the official publication of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of North Sumatra Province. Data analysis was carried out by calculating the price index received by farmers (It), the price index paid by farmers (Ib), and the NTP as the main indicator of welfare. To test differences between subsectors, the Kruskal-Wallis test and the Mann–Whitney test were used. The results showed that in general, the NTP of farmers in North Sumatra Province fluctuated throughout the study period. The plantation subsector had the highest NTP with an average of 115.29, followed by the livestock subsector (104.51), fisheries (101.24), food crops (97.31), and horticulture (93.99). This shows that plantation sub-sector farmers have the highest level of welfare, while food crop and horticultural farmers are still below the welfare standard (NTP < 100).
