Abstract

Until now, studies of Indonesian history have primarily concentrated on events that transpired on land, even though more than half of the territory of the Republic of Indonesia is composed of the sea. Such a dependency on the sea among many Indonesians indicates that a substantial portion of the past experiences and activities of the Archipelago's inhabitants has eluded the observation and research efforts of our nation's historians. This trend presents significant opportunities for the growth and development of Indonesian tourism. Indonesia, as the largest archipelagic country in the world, boasts rich biodiversity, a vast coastline of more than 81,000 km, and a total of 17,504 islands, among which 10,000 are classified as small islands, some of which remain unnamed and uninhabited. Mandar is one of the tribes in the archipelago that inhabits the coastal area of Kotabaru, South Kalimantan province, where the sea heavily influences its culture. The results of this study describe the potential for coastal tourism developed by the Mandar Community, which includes Pencak Silat, sea pandan handicrafts, and traditional sea alms ceremonies. The potential for tourism development is expected to transform these attractions into an economic catalyst for the local community in the area.

Abstract

Indonesia, with over 231 million Muslim people, is home to the world's largest Muslim population. However, the origins of Islam in Indonesia and the process of Islamization in the Archipelago are still highly debated topics among historians. Azyumardi Azra, a distinguished historian, and former UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta rector, has extensively researched Islamization in the Archipelago. This journal serves the purpose of delving into Azra's scholarly perspective, offering insights and analysis on the intricate process of Islamization within Indonesia. The present study adopts a literature review approach to comprehend and analyze Azra's writings. Azra postulates that the Islamic connections with the Archipelago can be traced back to Arab countries via trade routes, which were notably influenced by the triumphant spread of Islam into Persia and the Indian Subcontinent during the Umayyad dynasty (660-749H). In conclusion, Azra held a firm perspective regarding the significant Arab influence during the initial phases of Islamization in the Archipelago.

Abstract

This research aims to explain the reasons for choosing andesite igneous rock as building material from Hindu-Buddhist kingdoms. The research method in this article uses four stages of historical research, namely; heuristic techniques, source criticism techniques, interpretation techniques, and historiography techniques. Data sources were collected through primary and secondary data. The four stages of this historical research method together with secondary primary data are then analyzed using a combination of historical geography to obtain an in-depth study. The results of the research illustrate that the use of andesite igneous rock was used for temple buildings, statues, relief sculptures, and writing from Pallawa to Ancient Java. The choice of andesite igneous rock during the Hindu-Buddhist kingdom was based on the quality of the rock. The quality of this andesite rock has high artistic value, gray in color, hard, chemical composition and specific texture that can be carved. The chemical composition is 57% -63% silica content with 6% alkali metal oxide content. The silica content of andesite igneous rock makes this rock material resistant to weathering.

Abstract

The resistance of the Bima people in defending the kingdom's territory from Dutch colonial colonialism has taken quite a long time, where Asakota Fort has an important role as a maritime defense strategy. The aim of this research is to find out the struggle of the Bima people against the VOC (Verenigde Oost Indische) government from the territory of the Bima kingdom. The results of the research show that the Asakota Fortress had an important role in defending the naval resistance attacks between the Bima kingdom and the VOC government, because it was located in a strategic place to repel VOC warships that wanted to enter the Bima kingdom's territory. Asakota Fort was built during the time of Sultan Abdul Khair Sirajuddin as a sea defense fort at the entrance to the Bima kingdom. At that time the Gowa-Tallo kingdom had been defeated by the Dutch Company and ended with the Bongaya agreement.
