Abstract

Tuberculosis is a disease caused by Mycobacterium Tuberculosis bacterium. According to WHO (2021), 9.9 million people have died due to Pulmonary Tuberculosis. One of the factors affecting Tuberculosis incidents is the environment. The research aims to find out the factors affecting the incidents of Pulmonary Tuberculosis {TB) in the working area of the Public Health Center (Puskesmas) of Perbaungan in 2022. Risk factors investigated encompass occupancy density, ventilation, temperature, humidity, lighting, as well as home floor and walls condition. This is a quantitative research that uses case-control. 96 respondents are used as samples encompassing 48 cases and 48 controls. Data are analyzed using chi-square and binary logistic regression tests. Based on bivariate test results, it is found that the occupancy density (0.014), ventilation (0. 038), humidity (0. 008), lighting (0. 002), home floor condition (0. 000) dan home wall condition (0.002) are the factors affecting the incidents of Tuberculosis (p-value <0.05) while temperature (0.540) is not the factor that can affect the incidents of Tuberculosis (p-value >0.05). It is suggested that Puskesmas frequently monitor and give counseling related to Tuberculosis and the society clean their houses regularly and keep the house clean. Abstract

Rats are nuisance animals that can damage the economy and bring diseases to humans. To control rat populations, rodenticides are often used that contain toxic chemicals that are not environmentally friendly. However, there is an alternative to reducing the use of rodenticides, namely using vegetable rodenticides made from natural ingredients such as cassava which contains cyanide acid. Cyanide acid is very dangerous and can cause illness and even death if ingested. This research is a literature review. Research conducted by Fazriyawati and Rahmawati used 50 male white mice of Mus musculus species as samples. Samples were treated with cassava rodenticide doses of 40 grams, 60 grams, 80 grams, and 100 grams. The results showed that the highest mice mortality occurred at a dose of 100 grams with an average bait consumption of 62.48 grams and a mice mortality percentage of 60%. Thus, the conclusion of this study is that raw cassava has the potential as an effective vegetable rodenticide. Keywords: Mice, Plant-based Rodenticide, Raw Cassava

Abstract

Background: Eco-enzyme is one of the products of the fermentation process that has many benefits by utilizing organic waste such as mango peels. Putpose: This study aims to determine the differences in characteristics of eco-enzyme made from mango peel waste of different sizes during fermentation. Method: This research was conducted in three stages: eco-enzyme fermentation, organoleptic testing, and quantitative testing. The variations in mango peel sizes used were small (1x2 cm), medium (2x4 cm), and large (4x8 cm). Organoleptic testing was performed on 10 panelists using predetermined parameters, including aroma and color evaluation of the eco-enzyme. Quantitative testing was carried out by measuring the pH of the eco-enzyme using a pH meter. All tests were conducted on 3 different eco-enzyme treatments with 3 replicates, and the eco-enzyme was harvested on the 35th day. Results: Organoleptic testing revealed that the eco-enzyme made from the smallest mango peel size (1x2 cm) had higher scores in terms of aroma and color compared to the eco-enzyme made from larger peel sizes. Meanwhile, the quantitative testing showed that the eco-enzyme with the 1x2 cm peel size had the most acidic pH. In this eco-enzyme production, beneficial pitera mushrooms for the skin were also obtained. Conclusion: In this mini research, it was found that the best eco-enzyme was produced using the smallest mango peel size (1x2 cm), which resulted in the most acidic pH, the best aroma score of 2.6, and the best color score of 2.7. Suggestion: Further research is needed to determine if the results are similar between mango peel and other fruit peels in terms of size.
