Abstract

Abstract

Driyarkara is an Indonesian philosopher who has original way of thinking. This paper aims to explore and analyze his ideas of moral and decency. According to Driyarkara, moral is a human need. Without moral, humanity will be in chaos. Based on Driyarkara's point of view, moral is a consequence of consciousness; therefore, having high moral standard is a human nature. Furthermore, conscience can be a moral standard for determining right or wrong as long as the conscience itself has not been “raped”. When conducting a moral consideration, every human has to use his own reason which is reflected in Driyarkara's Purity of Reason Dialectic. For him, all moral efforts show that human always want to achieve the perfection which is considered as God. The Driyarkara ethics could be classified as the deontological ethics. But it is the deontological ethics which has theological, humanist-naturalist, and axiological dimensions so that it can be defined as teleological as well. If we correlate the Driyarkara ethics and the Postmodern Era where morality has already been blurring, we can place the Driyarkara ethics which is considered teleological and deontological as a solid alternative of morality.

Abstract

There are two opinions that are extremely different ahout religion function to self-actualization process. Firstly, religion is needed in self-actualization process. Secondly, religion inhibits self-actualization process. The research will make a clearance of that problem and to discover a conception about religion which are conducive to the self-actualization effort.Material object of the research is· Iqbal 's conception about religion and self, and the formal object is religion philosophy. Hermeneutic method is used in this research. There are some procedures of method, namely interpretation, analysis synthesis, coherency, comparation, and heuristics. The result ofresearch are: the self is more potensia than actus. Potensia will become actus through out s~lf-actualization process, and will final at insan kamil. lnsan kamil is the human like God, a human ideal condition. Religion norms are the one ofrepresentative self-actualization procedures. Religion can be called modus of existence. Proportional understanding about religion is needed for its. The understanding which placed the human as the central ofthe world, but the spiritual consciousness which oriented to God is growth in his self That understanding called anthropocentric-spiritualistic conception. Iqbal's conception about religion is anthropocentric-spiritualistic one. Self of human became central subject in his philosophy, and whole of his philosophy systems are formatted by the religion. Iqbal's conception about religion can be a reference in self- actualization.

Abstract

indirectly with cultural issues. The problems also have touched values of human rights, such as: restlessness, isolation, etc. Modern-man increasingly is trapped by a hole which is dug by him(her)self. Technological advances in modern civilization have made man arrogant that eventually plunged the man into a visible-life problem. Those basic or fundamental problems are very urgent and demanding an answer. To give the answer, it is needed an approach which orientates to human existence. It can be found in  thoughts of Sören Kierkegaard. Kierkegaard distinguishes the human existence into three distinctive levels, namely: (1) the aesthetic existence, (2) the ethics existence, (3) the religious existence. These levels will affect the human existence and it is its way. He differs from other existentialist philosophers who in general are atheists. Keywords: human existence, Sören Kierkegaard, cultural issues, the aesthetic existence, the ethics existence, the religious existence
