Abstract

Stroke has been a leading cause of death in Indonesia based on Riskesdas data in 2018, it is known that Sroke's prevalence increased from 7 per million to 10.9 per million. Patients with acute stroke were found to be lacking in protein energy by 16.3 percent - 35 percent. "Supromin" is a modified enteral food made from tempeh, skim milk, and egg white which is expected to increase food intake and improve the lipid profile of stroke patients. This study aims to analyze the effect of "supromin" and commercial formulas on albumin and cholesterol levels in stroke patients. This experimental study employed the pre-test and post-test control group design. Respondents were selected using consecutive random sampling. Data were analyzed using paired – t-tests. After 10 days of treatment, there was an increase in albumin levels of 0.17+0.29 mg/dL (p=0.069) in the group receiving the supromin formula and a decrease in albumin levels of 0.08+0.08 mg/dL (p=0.006) in the group receiving the commercial formula. Supromin formula is effective in reducing cholesterol level 16.58+18.31 mg/dL (p = 0.009). Giving supromin formula increases albumin levels and significantly lowers cholesterol levels in stroke patients. It is necessary to consider the provision of the supromin formula for a longer period.

Abstract

Toddlers are a group that is prone to anemia. One of the efforts to prevent anemia in a toddler is by fulfilling nutrients such as protein and iron. Chicken and haliling are high protein and iron foods that can be used to prevent anemia in toddlers. This study aims to determine the level of protein, iron and hedonic scaling (color, aroma, texture, and taste) of chicken nuggets and haliling as a snack for a toddler to prevent anemia. The method used in this study was a pure experimental design with a completely randomized design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 3 replications with the proportions of chicken and haliling P0 (100%:0%), P1 (90%:10%), P2 (80%:20%), P3 (70%:30%). The research panelists consisted of 25 untrained panelists. Analysis of protein content using the Kjeldahl method and iron using the visible spectrophotometric method, analysis of protein content data using Kruskal Wallis, iron using One Way Anova and hedonic scaling using Friedman. The results showed that there was an effect of the proportion of chicken and haliling on protein content (p=0.016), iron (p=0.001), color hedonic scaling (p=0.004), aroma (p=0.001), texture (p=0.001) and taste (p=0.001) on nuggets. The highest protein content at P3 was 11.27 g/100 g, the highest iron content at P3 was 2.2 mg/100 g, and the hedonic scaling for nuggets containing the proportions of chicken and halilings for color, aroma, texture, and taste was highest at P1 with an average of 3.2, 2.95, 3.25 and 2.85

Abstract

Fruit and vegetable (FV) consumption among teenagers in Indonesia is still relatively low. Based on Indonesia Basic Health Survey in 2018, 96.4 percent of teenagers have a low intake of FV and this can increase the risk of constipation. The purpose of this study was to assess the level of knowledge and FV consumption pattern and the impact on constipation at SMAN 1 Depok. The research design was cross-sectional with 206 high school students as subjects taken by proportional random sampling. Data was collected through an online questionnaire and tested statistically with Chi-square and Fisher-exact tests. The proportion of teenagers with a good level of knowledge is only 8.3 percent, while the others are moderate (55.8%) and not-good (35.9%). The average amount of FV consumption was 132.4±96.5 grams/day and 95.1 percent consumed less than the recommended amount. The average fiber intake was 6±2.5 grams/day, lower than the recommendation. It was found that 29.6 percent of teenagers were constipated. There was a significant relationship between FV consumption and FV accessibility (p=0,016), as well as constipation with gender (p=0,021) and fluid intake (p=0,027). Almost all teenagers have low consumption of FV and fiber intake and gender were found to be the dominant factor in constipation. It is recommended for the school to carry out continuous socialization for the students and parents about balanced nutrition, especially the importance of consuming 3 – 5 servings of FV a day

Abstract

Indonesia bears the three burdens of adolescent malnutrition: malnutrition, obesity, and micronutrient deficiency. Until now, teenage girls understand diet as a lifestyle to reduce food intake and limit the selection of food such as food ingredients and take supplements to lose weight. The purpose of this study was to determine the perceptions of diet among adolescent girls in the Tabanan District. The design of this study is a descriptive study using a cross-sectional approach. This research was conducted in the area of a public health center in Tabanan District, from March until May 2022. The technique of selecting the study set uses a purposive sampling technique. The sample of this study was teenage girls aged around 15 to 19 years who were in the public health center I, II, and III areas of Tabanan. The sample of this study was 106 people, which was obtained using a simple sampling technique, and the research analysis used univariate analysis. This study shows that the average age of female adolescents who became the research sample was 17 years, and most were senior high school students (73.58%). (55.8%) teenagers have a negative perception of diet than (46.2%) of others who have a positive perception. Therefore, it is recommended for teenagers to be wiser in sorting the information received to minimize negative perceptions about diet.

Abstract

The prevalence of obesity is high in women aged 18 years which is 21.8 percent. Twenty-two-year-old female students are one of the populations at risk of poor sleep quality and night-eating syndrome. Regular aerobic exercise can have a positive effect on sleep quality followed by a reduction in night eating syndrome. This study aims to analyze the effect of aerobic exercise on sleep quality and dinner syndrome in obese female students. The study was a quasi-experimental design with a pre-post test control group design conducted on 22 subjects. Inclusion criteria were female students aged 19-24 years determined by consecutive sampling. Subjects were divided into 2 treatment and control groups. The treatment was given aerobic exercise intervention for 4 weeks. As well as obesity management education and balanced nutrition using leaflets for both groups. Sleep quality data using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index and night eating syndrome using the Night Eating Questionnaire and food recall 3x24 hours. Statistical analysis using Independent T-Test, and Mann-Whitney test. There was a change before and after the aerobic exercise intervention in sleep quality (-1-(-3)) and night eating syndrome (-3-(-10)), treatment group (p0.001 and p=0.003). Meanwhile, the control group did not experience significant changes. Giving aerobic exercise for 4 weeks can improve sleep quality and reduce night eating syndrome significantly

Abstract

COVID-19 pandemic resulted in the prevalence of under, and over-nutrition increased. As a representative of undernutrition, stunting has become a severe public problem. Stunting was a manifestation of chronic malnutrition found in under-five-year-old children. The short stature of the children would hamper growth and development and might affect the disease progression in the future. Not only stunting but also obesity has also become a new issue in low-middle income countries (LMICs). The shift of urbanization heightened the prevalence of obesity in LMICs. This narrative review highlighted the increment of malnutrition in LMICs based on the literature findings during the COVID-19 pandemic and some possible factors related to the outcome. The articles for this review were obtained from verified international journal articles in the National Centre for Biotechnology Information (NCBI)/PubMed and Cochrane Library website. Eleven papers were collected to address malnutrition during the pandemic. Some related factors are: socioeconomic, dietary intake, sanitation and hygiene, health facility, and self-isolation contributed to the double malnutrition problem. Therefore, it is mandatory to suggest the appropriate approach to mitigate malnutrition in children by enriching nutrition education and knowledge programs to assist in resolving the public health problem.

Abstract

Obesity is associated with dyslipidemia and cardiovascular disease (CVD). The objective of the study was to determine the association between anthropometric parameters with lipid profiles among healthy women in Semarang. This study used a cross-sectional design with consecutive sampling. Anthropometric parameters in this research were body mass index (BMI), visceral fat, waist circumference (WC), hip circumference (HC), and waist-to-hip ratio (WHR). While, lipid profiles were total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein (HDL), triglyceride (TG), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), and triglyceride and high-density lipoprotein ratio (TG/HDL). The association of anthropometric parameters with the lipid profiles was analyzed by Spearman correlation. Among subjects with nutritional status normal, BMI has significantly correlated with TG, HDL, and TG/HDL ratio. Moreover, WHR was significantly correlated with HDL and TG. While, among subjects overweight and obese, BMI, visceral fat, and WC were significantly correlated with TG, HDL, and TG/HDL ratio. Anthropometric parameters such as BMI, visceral fat, WC, and WHR were associated with lipid profiles among healthy women in Semarang. BMI and WHR can be used in individuals with normal nutritional status to predict lipid profiles. While, BMI, visceral fat, and WC can be used in overweight and obese individuals to predict lipid profiles
