Abstract

Word problems solving involves the ability of translating and integrating word problem text. Many students get the difficulty in solving word problem due to their inability to translate and integrate word problem text into an exact representation. Representation is divided into two types namely, pictorial representation and schematic representation. This study aims at describing representation process employed by the 10th grade of High School students on word problem solving of inconsistent comparison. This research was done to 5 students and in this article have 3 subjects. The results of this study infine other representation. There are three mathematical representation of students in solving word problems comparison inconsistent: (1) pictorial representations, (2) schematic representation, and (3) pictorial-schematic representation.

Abstract

This study aims to determine differences in mathematics self-efficacy among students who learn to use the Aptitude Treatment Interaction (ATI) approach with students receiving conventional learning. This study is a quasi-experimental research, where teachers who play a direct role in the learning process and there researcher as an observer. Subjects in this study were 32 students on grade VIII SMP Negeri 2 Bangkinang Pekanbaru. Data collected by aptitude tests, observation, test result, and questionnaire. The result of this experiment indicated that self-efficacy scores students who learn using ATI approach and students receive conventional learning are different.

Abstract

This research describes the validation calculus 1 e-module so as to optimize student centered learning and individual student learning S-1. This research uses descriptive research with 3 practitioner’s subject, and 20 students of S-1. Data collection technique used questionnaire rating scale e-module. This type of data is quantitative and qualitative data. The data analysis technique is descriptive analysis and reflective analysis. Expert assessment of design and media, e-module is expressed very valid with the validity of 90.07%. Expert assessment of content, e-modules otherwise very valid by the validity of 91.23%. E-module declared valid by an average of validity 88.55%. The trial results are limited small group of 20 students, e-module declared valid by the validity of 85.11%. In general, calculus 1 e-module course declared valid by an average of 89.01%, so it can be concluded decent e-module is used to optimize student centered learning and individual student learning S-1.

Abstract

One of the factors that are important to achieve the goals of mathematics learning is a way of thinking students during learning. One of the processes used are intuitive thinking. Intuitive thinking is a cognitive process that led to the idea as a strategy for making decisions in solving problems. Spontaneous answers both written and oral expression so that students solve mathematical problems without the use of analytical thinking. The purpose of this study was to describe the solution to overcome the lack of mathematics achievement by means of intuitive thinking. The method used is qualitative to describe the solution of the subject in intuitive thinking. The subject was the four student of class VIII. Subjects using antisipatory intuitive ways of thinking that is contrary to the alleged problem solving in general and included in the global components and perception because it produces the correct answer with the solution.

Abstract

This study aimed to design a learning path which can help students to understand fractions based on Pendidikan Matematika Realistik Indonesia (PMRI) approach. The subject is 30 students of 4th grade of PP Qodratullah Langkan. Method of this research is design research, Hypothetical Learning Trajectory (HLT) developed from learning activity series using context stacked beads. The implementation of this research in 3 stages: preparing the design experiment, conducting the learning (the design experiment), and retrospective analysis in order to contribute to Local Instruction Theory support to students in studying fractions. The designed Hypothetical Learning Trajectory (HLT) is then compared to Actual Learning Trajectory (ALT) students during the learning to analyze whether students learn or not from what has been designed in the learning sequence. A retrospective analysis of the implementation of learning suggests that the use of the stacking bead context can help students understand fractions.

Abstract

This research aims to explain the ability of problem-solving between reflective cognitive and impulsive cognitive students. The subject of this research is students of class VII C SMP Al-Hikmah Surabaya. Subject chose based on a test of cognitive style, one student of reflective cognitive style and one student of impulsive cognitive style. The instrument uses a test of the MFF (Matching Familiar Figures) and tests the ability to problem-solving of ratio. The subject of reflective cognitive style can retell the problems that exist in the problem, said, write down the steps used in the settlement of a matter, carry out all settlement plan as a whole and coherent, and provide settlement solutions at the end of time. The subject of impulsive cognitive style, the average can tell, mention, write on some matter, of course, does not implement the settlement plan, not coherent, and settlement in a hurry.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the reversibility ability of the seventh-grade students in making the linear equations. This ability is known after all students complete ten questions given and some students selected to be interviewed. Instrument test findings, in the form of 10 questions reversibility capability that has valid and reliable. The subjects were 29 students of class VIII 1 in MTS Negeri Pagedangan in the academic year 2015/2016. Interviews conducted to see students ability to create a linear equation. As a result, most of the students have had the reversibility ability and the biggest difficulties of students in making similarity equation when its variable in the middle of the equation.

Abstract

This study was aimed at describing the student’ learning progress on decimals addition by a set of learning activitis based on Indonesian Realistic Mathematics Education. This research  method is design research which contain three stages, namely: preliminary design, design experiment and retrospective analysis. Hypothetical Learning Trajectory (HLT) has been designed to play an important role as learning design and research instrument. HLT was tested to 30 fourth grade students. The data were collected through interview, observation, and field notes. The findings of the research  showed that this instructional design could stimulate students  in the introduction of one digit decimal through the result of weight measurement, the use of the model that the students make themselves (model of) to describe the measurement results at the second level, and marking the result of the measurement to the number line and continued by describing the process of decimals addition from the measurement activity to the number line in the more formal level. Furthermore at the formal level, students are able to solve the problem of the decimals addition using the correct procedure that is the place value rule.

Abstract

This study aims to describe students’ thinking process in solving the problems of generating function. This is a case study that classifies students into three categories: high, medium, and low. Subjects were asked to solve the problems then use think aloud to reveal their thinking process. The results show that in understanding the problem, using conceptual and procedural knowledge related to the problems, strategies, and experiences they have in solving similar problems between the three subjects is different. Subjects with high and medium capability are able to reveal the problem-solving component of Polya in detail, whereas low-ability subjects use only some of the problem-solving components of Polya.

Abstract

This research uses reallotment activities that already designed by previous research to know the role of reallotment activities in great rectangular learning. This research uses descriptive research method implemented in class 7th at SMP N 3 Banguntapan, Bantul, Yogyakarta. The data collection techniques used are documentation, observation, and test. Furthermore, the researcher analyzed the data obtained through video recording, observation, and student test answers. The results show that reallotment activities can assist students in finding the square formula by changing the shape of a rectangle into a rectangular shape. The learning activities that use reallotment activities consist of action comparing the area of an irregular shape, replacing the regular form into squares, determining the area of the rectangle and the parallelogram, finding the formula of the breadth of the parallelogram, and also determining the area of the trapezium, the parallelogram, and kite.
