Abstract

The idea of scientific integration-interconnection initiated by Amin Abdullah still cannot be applied in pure science study programs. The unique and very formal character of mathematics causes almost all lecturers of the Department of Mathematics and Mathematics Education to learn how to implement the concept of integration-interconnection when they teach some mathematical courses. This article offers a design for implementing the integration-interconnection paradigm of mathematics and Islam in the Tri Dharma of higher education activities for the Department of Mathematics and Mathematics Education. The integrative-interconnective model of mathematics and Islam includes an integrative learning, research, and community service model. We used the grounded theory method to form the integration-interconnection model. The resulting model is expected to be used as a guide for the academic community of the Department of Mathematics and Mathematics Education under the Islamic Religious Universities (Perguruan Tinggi Keagamaan Islam) in carrying out all activities of the Tri Dharma of higher education in terms of teaching and learning, research and community service.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the relational thinking profile of students with field independent and field dependent cognitive styles in solving contextual problems. There are seven study groups in class VII MTsN 1 Surabaya City and two male students from class VIIA totaling 40 students were selected as subjects based on the results of the GEFT cognitive style test and equivalent mathematical ability. Students who got a GEFT score ≤ 9 were classified as field dependent (SFD) and field independent (SFI) got a score > 9. Subjects with field independent cognitive style (SFI) were selected with a score of 11, subjects with field dependent cognitive style (SFD) with a score of 7 with TKM results, namely 77 and 82. Data collection techniques in this study used TPM and interviews. Data analysis was carried out by means of data reduction, presentation and conclusion drawing. Valid data obtained through time triangulation. The results showed that in understanding the problem, (1) SFI and FFD students found important elements in a given problem. Learners SFI describes the relationship between the elements in the problem while students SFD can not explain. Learners FI and FD build relationships in determining the completion planning strategy and checking again using arithmetic operations and carrying out the plan made. Learners FI solves the problem using another method while learners FD uses the usual way. Learners FI do the recalculation while students SFD counts back by way of substitution.

Abstract

This research discusses the student understanding of mathematical concepts in solving story problems based on APOS theory. The method used in this research is qualitative. The subjects were 3 students of class XI IPS-1. The subjects selected are subjects that have all the conceptual understanding indicators. The research instrument used was test questions and sheets interview. The data collection techniques were test, interviews and documentation. The data analysis techniques used were data reduction, data presentation and conclusions. The results of the study showed that 2 students fulfilled all stages of APOS perfectly, namely action, process, object and scheme. While 1 student only reached the action stage. The student was unable to reach the process, object and scheme stages. This is because the student only understands the concept verbally and does not understand the meaning of the concept of arithmetic sequences and series.

Abstract

Students with well-developed metacognition tend to excel in problem-solving. This study examines the metacognitive skills of junior high school (MTs) students in solving three-dimensional geometric problems, focusing on gender differences. The analysis involves three stages of metacognition: planning, monitoring, and evaluation. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, the study selected three male and three female students from 35 ninth-grade students. Data were gathered through mathematics learning outcome documents, metacognitive essay tests, and interview guidelines. The results reveal that male students face challenges across all three metacognitive stages when solving geometric problems, whereas female students encounter difficulties primarily at the evaluation stage. These findings highlight the need for targeted interventions to strengthen metacognitive skills, particularly in problem-solving contexts, while addressing gender-specific challenges.

Abstract

Gamification in mathematics education has risen post-COVID-19 to improve student engagement and learning. This study explores key trends, influential authors, and leading journals through bibliometric and keyword co-occurrence network analysis of 272 publications (2022–2024) from the ERIC database, using the Boolean search “(gamification OR games) AND (mathematics OR algebra OR geometry OR calculus OR statistics)”. Using Biblioshiny for Bibliometrix, the analysis identified 812 authors and 138 journals, with prominent contributors including Erin, Fengfeng, and Ji-Eun Lee. Leading journals, such as Education and Information Technologies and Journal of Computer Assisted Learning, emerged as key sources. Three main keyword clusters were identified: game-based learning in mathematics, development of early mathematical skills, and global educational perspectives. The study highlights trends such as problem-solving and student engagement, while revealing a limited research base on the cognitive and social impacts of gamification, particularly at the secondary level. It concludes with recommendations for future research to address gaps and support broader adoption.
