Abstract

The Anoa is potential to be developed as a meat-producing animal.  Studies on its preference to certain feed types and form is essential as an initial effort to conserve and cultivate anoa as livestock using feed processing technology. This study was aimed to evaluate the anoa’s feed preference to feed physical form, which was processed through feed processing/preserving technology. Latin square design with 3 treatments, and 3 replications was used in this study.  The treatments were three different feed form, i.e. fresh, hay and wafers. Three anoas used as replications. Eating behaviour (eating, rumination upon standing, lying and wallowing), total feed consumptions, total dung, protein and crude fibre content of feed were observed. The results showed that the anoa’s feed in the ex situ area could be prepared in the form of wafers with protein content, crude fibre and total digestible nutrient of 8.11, 23.11 and 72.85%, respectively. Total digestible nutrients of wafer-shaped feed was higher than fresh and dry feed (72.85 vs 62.25, 60.88%). It could be recommended that wafer feed  could be applied in anoa ex situ conservation and cultivation. Abstract

The waste of the broiler processing (feather) is a potential source for animal feed. However the presence of keratins cause limited of feather use. Before using, therefore, feather must be treated to hydrolyze cysteine disulfide bound dominating keratins protein. Enzymatic (biological) treatment using microbes will produce specific feather hydrolyzed and does not have negative impact on environment. The research objected to get the microbes which degradated selected keratins, improve protein quality of feather meal and find out the best ration formulation true in vitro the basic information to formulate in vivo ration. The research has been done in Laboratory of Animal Feedstuff Faculty of Animal Science UNSOED for eight months. Fermentation trial was done on liquid media with bath system. In vitro trial used of Tilley and Terry methods with parameter observe was dry matter digestibility, organic matter digestibility, protein degradation, total VFA and solubility in pepsin. Based on all parameter, on fermentation trial with Bacillus licheniformis decides broiler chicken feather had good prospect to be developed on feed protein source. In vitro trial recommended ration with formulation of fermented feather meal concentrate (15 percent), soybeans meal (5 percent), rice bran (20 percent), molasses (4 percent), mineral mix (1 percent), with forage: concentrate ratio 40 : 60 could be used as in vivo ration. Abstract

A research entitled “Performance of Growing Male Quails Under Different Complete Feeds and Floor Sorts” has been conducted in experimental farm, Faculty of Animal Husbandry Unsoed  Purwokerto.  The objective of the study is to find out the best floor sort and complete feed for performance of growing male quails. One hundred and fifty male quails at three weeks old were used in this study. Split Plot Design were used in this research. Floor sorts  were used as  maintreatments and they consists of L1 (litter floor) and L2 (wire floor) Complete feeds were used as subtreatment and they consists of  P1 (AD 51), P2 (CP 511), P3(B 11) and P4 (BR 1). Deck levels were used as deck  andT1 (high), T2 (meden) and T3 (low deck). Statistical analyses showed that complete feeds had significant effect (P<0.05) on feed consumption but not significant on body weight, growth and feed conversion. Floor sorts and their interaction  with the complete feeds  had not significant on the performance of the birds. It can be conclused that during growing period, P1 (AD 51) gave better performance and for floor shorts, either litter or wire can be used to growing male quails. Abstract

Two steps of experiment were conducted to evaluate the proximate composition and nutritive value of fermented water hyacinth leaf (WHL) with Aspergillus niger in Tegal duck.  Twenty two heads of eight-week Tegal ducks with an average body weight of 1202.55 + 111.14 g were used in this experiment.  There were two treatments namely: non-fermented (NFWH) and fermented with Aspergillus niger (FWHAN). Each treatment was replicated 10 times. Data gathered were analyzed using t-student test. The  proximate composition between NFWH and FWHAN showed an increase in crude protein/CP  (11.44 vs 16.09%) and ash (12.76 vs 22.37%) but a decrease in crude fiber/CF (21.51 vs 16.62%) and nitrogen free extract/NFE (53.20 vs 43.59%).  The nutritive value of diet for eight-week Tegal ducks showed that fermentation of WHL with Aspergillus niger significantly increased CP digestibility, true metabolizable energy (TME) and nitrogen retention (NR), but not for CF digestibility.  It could be concluded that fermentation of WHL with Aspergillus niger increases the nutrient quality and the nutritive value of diet for eight-week Tegal ducks in term of CP digestibility, TME and NR. Abstract

Ninety six commercial strain were conducted from 14 to 42 days of age to evaluate the affect of utilization zeolite and on performance of broiler and fecal characteristics. Birds were divided into four  treatment diets (4 replicates of 7 birds each): K (control), KB (K+ 1% bentonite),  KZ (K+ 1% zeolite), KBZ (K+ 1% Z+ 1% B). The birds were fed initially for two weeks a commercial starter ration and followed by treatment  diets 15 to 42 days of age. All the diets were formulated to have 20% crude protein and 3000 kcal. ME and 0.91% Ca and 0.69% P for control and 0.34% treatments. Body weights and feed intakes were measured on a weekly basis. The manure from each group was sampled on weekly basis and the  moisture content, pH and ammonia production was determined. The results showed the utilization zeolite and bentonite or both significant differences (P<0.05) on pH and (P<0.01) fecal ammonia content, but not on feces water content, final body weight, feed consumption, feed conversion ratio, and carcass.
