Abstract

The access to information on the selling price of tomatoes by tomato growers is perceived very limitedin the pastin Pangalengan District. The appearance of information technology, such as mobile phone,provides opportunities for tomatoes growers to obtain the access to more information, wider, fasterand cheaper. The general objective of this research is to identify the behavior of tomato growers’communication and the influence aspects of the use of mobile phones toward the effectiveness ofcommunication in Pangalengan District. The method for this research is explanatory survey research.Two-steps random sampling has been used in this research with selected sample of 165 respondents.The research unit is focused on the tomatoes growers who used mobile phones. The result indicates thatthe tomato growers in Pangalengan District perceive the use of mobile phones provides benefits to havemore options for the selling price of tomatoes. The result of statistical analysis shows that the use ofmobile phones among tomato growers and tomato sellers has given significant effect on the effectivenessof communication and increasing the intensity of tomato sales.From this research, it is recommendedto provide the information management of the selling price of tomatoes via mobile phones involvingAgriculture Information Officer (PIP) which already exist today.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the dynamics of cattle farmer groups assisted by Universitas Gadjah Mada (Faculty of Animal Science) in Yogyakarta Province. The total number of respondents were 77 farmers of cattle farmer groups. The tool used was a questionnaire that has proven validity and reliability. This study was conducted by survey method through the stages of preparation and execution. In the preparation phase carried out the determination of groups and cattle farmer samples using pusposive random sampling. The results showed that the dynamics of cattle farmer groups assisted by Universitas Gadjah Mada in Yogyakarta Province included in the high category. The highest group dynamics was Ngudi Barokah Group in Kulonprogo (equal to 82.48%), followed by the Sido Kumpul Group in Bantul (81.92%), then Bayu Andini Group in Sleman (77.22%), and Lembu Lestari Group in Gunungkidul (73.02%). Constituent elements of the group dynamics of goals, group structure, function assignments, development, cohesiveness, atmosphere and effectiveness of the group had a high level, while the group pressure was ini medium level.

Abstract

The purpose of this study to determine the level of participation, identify the factors that influence the participation of farmers and to analysis the effect of participation in the Scholars develop village or Sarjana Membangun Desa (SMD) program. The research was conducted on a group of beef cattle in the SMD program Bantul Yogyakarta Province. Primary data were collected by survey method using questionnaire interviews on 8 SMD groups consisting of 42 members. Analysis of the level of participation of farmers using discriptive analysis, while to analysis factors that affect the participation of farmers and the influence of participation to the success of the program was used multiple linear regression analysis with SPSS tools for windows 16. The result analysis shows that farmers level participation in planning, 71.43% farmers had low participation; 59.52% farmers in the implementation stage had participation that was middle level. On stage of evaluation 54.76% farmers had low participation and in stage sharing benefits 50% farmers had low participation. Success of the program SMD viewed from population cattle declined from 184 head to 107 head, while the existing capital in the group also decreased from IDR 2.904.000.000 to IDR 1.182.000.000 seen from number of members group declined from 185 farmers being 114 farmers. Regression analysis showed that age, occupation, level of formal education, non-formal education, long became members of the group, farming experience, family income, number of dependents, land holdings, cosmopolitan, group motivation, the role of SMD, and the role of agency participation of farmers had not been able to explain the participation of farmers and the value of R2 value of 0.132 (13.2%). Partially no factor capable of affecting farmers participation. Further results of the regression analysis with the participation of relationship success SMD program showed no effect with R2 value of 0.01.

Abstract

Abstract. The aims of this research were to describe the characteristics of Kaligesing goat farmers; to analyze the farmers’ perceptions on the role of extension workers as conduit of information, as mentors, organizers and dynamic factor, technicians and liaisons; to discover the relationship between the farmers’ characteristics with farmers’ perceptions; and to investigate the relationship between farmers’ perceptions to goat maintenance management. The respondents were goat farmers in Kaligesing, Purworejo, Central Java Province. Data were obtained from questionnaire survey method. Determining location, the research applied combination of stratified sampling method with purposive random sampling. Total respondents were 159 farmers with nine farmer groups as samples. Analysis was subject to Spearman Rank, resulting that age, education level and farming experience were not significant to the farmers’ perceptions to the role of extension workers, but the ownership of livestock had a very significant relationship with a correlation coefficient of 0.240, group classes had also very significant relationship with a correlation coefficient of 0.414, and frequency of meeting with extension workers have a significant relationships with a correlation coefficient of 0.202. Farmers’ perceptions to the role of extension workers had very significant relationships to the maintenance management with a correlation coefficient of 0.393. Key words : farmers’ characteristics, farmers’ perceptions, Kaligesing goat, role of extension workers Abstrak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui karakteristik peternak, persepsi peternak terhadap peran penyuluh, hubungan antara karakteristik peternak dengan persepsi, dan hubungan antara persepsi peternak dengan manajemen pemeliharaan. Responden penelitian adalah peternak Kambing Kaligesing di Kecamatan Kaligesing Kabupaten Purworejo Jawa Tengah dengan metode penelitian survei kuesioner. Penentuan lokasi penelitian dengan kombinasi cara stratified sampling dan purposive random sampling. Jumlah kelompok tani sebagai sampel penelitian sebanyak sembilan kelompok dan jumlah total responden sebanyak 159 peternak. Analisis Rank Spearman digunakan untuk analisis data.  Hasil analisis menunjukkan  bahwa umur, tingkat pendidikan dan lama beternak tidak secara nyata memiliki hubungan dengan persepsi peternak terhadap peran penyuluh, sedangkan kepemilikan ternak memiliki hubungan sangat nyata (P<0,01) dengan nilai koefisien korelasi 0,240. Kelas kelompok memiliki hubungan sangat nyata (P<0,01) dengan nilai koefisien korelasi 0,414 dan frekuensi bertemu penyuluh memiliki hubungan nyata (P<0,05) dengan nilai koefisien korelasi 0,202. Persepsi peternak terhadap peran penyuluh memiliki hubungan sangat nyata (P<0,01) terhadap manajemen pemeliharaan dengan nilai koefisien korelasi 0,393Kata kunci:  karakteristik peternak, persepsi peternak, kambing Kaligesing, peran penyuluh

Abstract

The local government as a system, organizationally, has the public relations (PR) board which should ideally have a large capacity in supporting management of policy development.This study is intended to describe the existence of PR to support the successful implementation of relocation policies of street vendors in the Yogyakarta City. This research is a qualitative research with the unit of analysis is the staff of PR and information from the government of the Yogyakarta City. The problem to be questioned is to what extent of the local government PR are performing the function and roles based on the main duties and functions which is set based on, theoretically, the essence of the ideality. The results showed that the success of the relocation of street vendors in the Yogyakarta City performed collaboratively between PR and its stakeholders. Processes and mechanisms impasses through the stages of fact-finding, planning, and negotiation. PR is not involved directly in the process of communication and negotiation to street vendors, but it is become a bridge of information, mediator, and facilitator in the process of relocation. Media of communication which widely used are mass media and interpersonal media. Both kinds of media are used by PR board and its stakeholders in creating the awareness of the street vendors to be relocated.

Abstract

Culture appears in all contexts of human life, included in the government's communication policy. The aim of this study is to verify the influence of the cultural dimension toward the communication policy of relocating street vendors by the Government of Yogyakarta City in 2004 to 2010. This study used 258 vendors who had been relocated as the sample. The data analysis used of this study was quantitative with the double regression analysis test.  The results of this study showed that the cultural dimension have a significant effect toward the communication of relocation policy of Street Vendors in Yogyakarta. It can be seen from the F-count (71,536) F-table (4,710), t-count (18,625) t-table (1,960) with a significance level of 0.000 (α 0,05). The regression determination coefficient (R2) showed that the communication of relocation policy of street vendors in Yogyakarta is influenced by the cultural dimension, that is about 0,600, or 60%, while the rest is about 40% due to other variables outside of the model studied.Keywords: cultural dimension; communication; relocation policy; street vendor

Abstract

The value of cultural wisdom that exist in the society in Kaur District, Bengkulu Province, could beapplied in the form of verbal message. They believe that verbal messages, which are used, are convincedby community as a heritage that could become a social regulation. The lack of communication betweengovernment and the community becomes the factor in implementing these values. The lack of attentionfrom the government put culture seemed to be an obstacle factor in development. Documenting thelocal knowledge of community related to cultural values became a problem in contributing to thedevelopment. This verbal messages are called as larangan jurai and used by the community in the NapalHijau village, Muara Sahung, Kaur District, Bengkulu Province. Larangan jurai contains regulations tocommunicate with each other, culture, and the Creator. This study gives an overview about manners,habits, behaviours, and customs as social regulations in the community. The community believed thatlarangan jurai could be able to give the contribution of development in various fields.

Abstract

Kemandirian menjadi isu penting bagi komunitas peternak di Indonesia. Dalam hal ini akan dibahas dalam kasus proses peningkatan produksi susu berkualitas dan pengembangan peternakan sapi perah di Indonesia. Produksi susu dalam negeri di Indonesia masih belum memenuhi jumlah permintaan pasar hingga, hal ini mengakibatkan ketergantungan atas impor susu masih cukup tinggi. Oleh karena itu, tuntutan Industri Pengolahan Susu (IPS) mengharuskan peternak untuk meningkatkan produksi dan juga kualitas susu yang dihasilkan menjadi tema penting dalam pembahasan dan analisis penelitian ini. Fokus perhatian dalam penelitian menekankan pada isu kemandirian peternak. Penelitian ini akan menganalisis berdasarkan indikator pengambilan keputusan, kreativitas dan solusi pemecahan masalah. Secara khusus, penelitian ini menganalisis tingkat kemandirian peternak anggota koperasi dan mengetahui faktor-faktor yang kemandirian peternak. Penelitian menggunakan metode survey dengan jumlah sampel 52 peternak anggota Koperasi Susu Warga Mulya. Kemandirian peternak dianalisis dengan menggunakan skor, sementara untuk mengetahui pengaruh umur, pendidikan, kepemilikan betina produktif dan pengalaman beternak terhadap kemandirian peternak sapi perah dilakukan uji regresi. Studi ini menyimpulkan bahwa peternak yang tergabung dalam Koperasi Susu Warga Mulya mayoritas memiliki kemandirian dalam kategori sedang. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut, dapat dijelaskan bahwa peternak memiliki kemandirian yang cukup dalam menjalankan usahanya. Meskipun demikian, peternak masih memiliki kendala besar terkait pengambilan keputusan penetapan harga jual susu. Hal ini dikarenakan peternak tidak memiliki kemandirian untuk menentukan harga jual susu.
