Abstract

The existence of shophouse in Indonesia has been started in the 17th century at the Colonial Era brought by Chinese traders.Shophouse is considered as a solution of the increasing density of population in Indonesia and land limitation. Shophouse typology adapt along with time and its surroundings. Along with its development, nowadays shophouse’s design had its own problem. Basically shophouse is supposed to accomodate two functions which is residential and stores but its residential function become less dominant than its commercial function. One of the causes is the shophouse design can’t meet the resident’s social needs satisfaction. Method that used in this research is comparative by comparing shophouse design in Colonial era with shophouse design that commonly found in Indonesia. Based on the study, it showed that the shophouse design in Colonial era was able to accommodate social functions among the inhabitants while the shophouse design that is commonly found in Indonesia focused in terms of economy (how quickly sold) and ignore the residential needs in their design. The study is expected to provide benefits in shophouse design in future and can contribute the knowledge in the realm of architecture.

Abstract

Cosmology is the science related to kemestaan (cosmos) in a concept of the relationship between the human world (micro-cosmos) and of the universe. Space in traditional house Saga has values and khasan interesting architecturally is examined. The influence of Ngga'e on the Du'a belief and traditional home space Saga interesting architecturally is identified. This study uses qualitative methods with an ethnographic approach that is description. The findings of this study is about the cosmology of the space on a traditional home. Cosmological view of space in traditional house Saga is distinguished into three parts namely is lewu, gara as one and mention the position of the human body parts. Cosmological view of space in traditional Indigenous Villages (Sa'o) Saga depicted horizontally with the mother lay. Nature of traditional house Saga is the core of fertility and birth. Being a mother is clearly visible on a carved door (pene ria) enter Sa'o believe carving the breasts of a woman who symbolizes the human life and a transverse under IE peneria koba leke symbolizing the human development. The position of the head of the mother at the lulu (the dugout), second legs on his back is to the fore in the tent (dugout or accepting guests), second hand mereba is at the right and left dhembi space, the womb or humanitarian space are at puse ndawa.

Abstract

The spatial condition of the Bajo Tribe at Wuring village in Maumere Town is seen in the characteristics to residential community as early village of Muslim civilization and became the center of spreading out Islam in Sikka Regency. The historical background is as a review in exploring the formation’s community dwelling and geographical, social, cultural and economic aspects of the local community. This approach in research using phenomenology method with qualitative descriptive and naturalistic analysis that is describing and interpreting cultural record of Bajo Tribe in the form of description of history, map document, or artefact which in the form of physical resident of Bajo tribe society. The purpose of this study is to examine the spatial development that is formed in the form of spatial system to residential and the aspects underlying the spatial establishment of Bajo Tribe in Wuring village area as an effort to understand the initial condition until the formation of the present kampung hamlet. The result of this research gives general ilustration about occupancy spatial system including space organization, space orientation and space of hierarchy in micro scope of residence in the form of ma'bunda-ma'buli concept. On the other hand, it is also on environmental messo like form of spatial development shelter in the form of grow stage and diaruma stage because of the non-physical aspect underlined spatial formulation of dwellings to the area of ??Wuring village.

Abstract

In recent times, there’s an active living design trend in cities around the world, giving chances for people to actively move inside the city, making city healthier. Active Living can occur within pedestrian way along shopping street corridor which has potential to move shoppers from one store to another through walking. Pedestrian way along shop corridor are potentially attractive for people move around inside the city. The purpose of this study is to give us information about how far active living concept has been implemented within L. L. R. E. Martadinata street. The information and analysis can be use for further development in pedestrian way design. Our study conducted through analyzing existing active design problems along with literature studies about active living in design. Within the study, we conclude that L. L. R. E. Martadinata Street hasn’t quite well providing active living movement for shopping street pedestrian way. Pedestrian way has become uncomfortable, for people to walk from store to store within street corridor. There’s a missing value about active living, where people rather use automobile than actively moving along street corridor.

Abstract

The old downtown area of ??Banda Aceh holds high historical value, as evidenced by the many historic relics that still survive as a historic object in the region. The existence of these ancient artifacts can complement the historical narrative as well as the authentic proof of the identity of the city of Banda Aceh. The central area of ??Banda Aceh requires interesting public spaces to make the existence of these historic assets more prominent as an element of the attraction of this historic area. This study aims to strengthen the identity of the downtown area of ??Banda Aceh through an architectural design concept in a potential public corridor that has not been optimally utilized. The idea is to assemble historic spaces in this corridor to make it easier and convenient for pedestrians to access. This research is done by recording visual image of open space in public corridor area to capture visual picture and to know physical quality of public spaces in the location. Increased visual accentuation in the public corridors of the downtown area of ??Banda Aceh can form visual sequences that provide different spatial experiences. The experience of this space arises from the historical space-themed space phases supported by the gradual display of space elements. The key to success in strengthening the identity of this corridor is the selection of the design of appropriate elements of space, in accordance with the character of space that can represent the values ??and historical identity of the region.

Abstract

The Madurese community is known as an individual, independent and subsistent corn farming community, identified as having three main territories: residential territory, open space territory and agricultural landscape territory. The distance between clusters of distant residential causes is referred to as individual society as well as independent. The dependence of life on crops causes the distance of dwelling with the agricultural landscape so close that it is called subsistence society. Land-based economic morality, due to the persistence of maintaining spatial territory. So the fundamental question of research is how the third spatial pattern of territory in the village of Laok Madura Madura? The strategy used is ethnography, with qualitative research design. The main data collection methods were in-depth interviews, no open questions, with typical case sampling techniques in four occupancy based on five criteria: civitas, activity, shelter pattern, agricultural landscape pattern and artifacts existence of crop storage object. Internal validation in the form of observation, measurement and architectural documentation, caused by the characteristic of ethnic sub-ethnic of Madura, so that the head of village is not a source of internal validation, but the participant as the owner of the dwelling. The analysis is done by comparing with anthropological-architectural concept, human space concept, also with related theme study. The results obtained at least found the embodiment of the concept of spatial patterns called habitat. The concept of a spatial pattern called habitat consists of: place, environment and landscape. The arrangement of the three forms a hierarchical bubble that places in the environment, while place and environment are in the landscape. Referring to the concept of architectural-anthropological, the hierarchy of these three elements is referred to as: habitat.

Abstract

Jakarta’s dense population has caused a disorder in the urban system by negatively impacting its streams. Therefore, this research aims to find out the urban district design criterias with rainwater harvesting system and how to implement them in residential areas of Kebon Melati, Tanah Abang. Data collecting techniques used in this research include literature studies, field observation, and interviews. The proposed solution to Jakarta’s rainwater problems is to design a district which incorporates the four potential urban design theory applications into it. The first theory is about land use related to storage and drainage system. The second theory is about vehicle circulation and pedestrian paths related to roadblock gaps and permeable materials. The third theory is about building mass and shape related to catchment area, conveyance, and green roof. The last theory is about open spaces related to water retention basins. The goal of this urban district design is to develop and decrease the speed of rainwater flow in Kebon Melati.

Abstract

Interest of prospective students toward engineering courses both in public and private universities keep decreasing. Data shows that only 14% of students choose engineering courses. In smaller scale, in one private university, students interest taking the engineering course are only 25% compared to student interest on taking the social courses. Purpose of this research was to conclude the reasons why student’s interest toward engineering courses are low, and to comprise some proven solutions, related theories, in order to help solving the problems. Method used in this research is descriptive quantitative. Data used comes from new student’s quisionaire, and related data with student’s number studying engineering course in Kopertis III and in the internal of ABC University. Data analysis showed that current engineering courses which have more students, are engineering courses with social senses such as Architecture, Regional Planning, and Design Product. Along with the theory of 4 (four) aspecs behind the popularity of a figure, all caused by the current trend of prospective student’s interest towards the social study attractiveness which leads to problem soving, the existence of success’s public figures, and industry branding. Direct workshop between lecturer and prospective students, and doing open house in the university could be strategies to increase the numbers of prospective student who want to take engineering course.

Abstract

Cimahi City was originally one part of Bandung Regency, with rapid growth finally established as an administrative city on January 29, 1976, then became autonomous city on June 21, 2001. Cimahi currently become one of the growth areas of Bandung in the West. The current population is 561,386, with an average growth of 2.12% per year (source: population database of Cimahi City 2014). Green Open Space (RTH) in several cities in West Java has decreased both in terms of quality and quantity. This has the effect of reducing urban environmental quality and causing urban problems such as floods, especially in the rainy season, increasing air pollution, and decreasing urban happiness index due to the lack of open space available for social interaction. The similarity of the configuration of the arrangement of the site in this case the similarity of the typology of building mass composition, the number of occupants and the target of the residents of low income (MBR) of the two rusunawa Cimahi City, namely Cibeureum and Leuwigajah interesting to examine which is more effective the arrangement of green space and its utilization and the determinants what's playing. In the management, maintenance and utilization of the flats RTH is the main responsibility of apartment managers, in this case the Cimahi Municipal Government, but the involvement of all residents in maintaining and maintaining cleanliness, especially in disposing of waste in place and use the facilities provided responsibly.
