Abstract

Clay mineral is widely used in ceramic materials, building materials, paper coating materials, catalyst support, and an alternative material for zeolite. This paper reports the study on the relationship between the position of soil (low and highland) and its mineral composition in Bukit Tinggi, West Sumatera, Indonesia. It was found that the lowland area indicates the existence of dominant kaolinite and mikasaite. Meanwhile the highland is characterized with dominant illite and kaolinite.Illite is the main component for ceramic. This due to the alkaline condition and high content of Al and K as well as high hydrothermal activity at high land presumably by volcanic activity. Keywords: clay mineral, XRD, XRF, kaolinite, illite-smectite

Abstract

This research was conducted to determine the quality of antidiabetic traditional medicines from beans and bitter melon after 6 months of storage. Beans and bitter melon contain bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, beta sitosterol, stigmasterol, alkaloids, saponins, and phenols which function as antidiabatic. However, environmental factors such as production processes, and environmental temperatures affect the storage process. So we need to test the quality of antidiabetic drugs after 6 months of storage. The tests are pH test, total plate number test, mold and yeast number test. Based on the test the following results are obtained. The pH obtained was 4.75, the plate number was 0.002 colonies / g, mold number and yeast 0.01 x103 colonies / g. Based on these results, the quality of antidiabetic traditional medicines from beans and bitter was kept in quality after 6 months of storageKeywords: Quality of storage, traditional medicine, beans, bitter melon

Abstract

The environment in coastal areas is currently undergoing a process of exploitation, and in some locations the condition of natural resources is already at a critical point. This research is designed to make eco-friendly cultivation model as a small-scale fisherman livelihood supplement and local seagrass protection strategy. The virtues of this research include three aspects: (1) environmental aspect, (2) economic aspect of small fisherman and (3) social aspect in creating value of togetherness among community member in study location. Taking research data using direct observation method, interview and in-depth discussion. Respondents in this research are fishermen and fishermen caught fishermen group that catch fish around the seagrass area. Further data obtained before the analysis is validated through in-depth discussion. Data analysis using discrete statistic method. The results showed that environmentally friendly cultivation has become the livelihood of fishermen in the study location, and they get additional income of Rp. 7,500. 000 within a period of cultivation (6-7 months). In addition, they earn additional income of Rp. 200,000 from fishing service by utilizing the means of cultivation (KJA). Furthermore, the farmer's fishermen are aware of the negative effects of the utilization that are disruptive from the use of bombs and potassium to cultivation and they play an active role in preventing it. In this case, smallholder cultivation has relevance in seagrass habitat protection and can be considered in the policy of empowering fisherman's economy and conservation of local coastal environment outside conservation area. Abstract

This study aims to develop learning devices, especially in the evaluation section of science learning in junior high school, which in turn after being implemented in the classroom is expected to develop 21st century skills of students. In particular, this study aims to, 1) identify science learning evaluation tools made by teachers so that they obtain a clear picture of the profile of the evaluation tool, 2) develop a junior high school science learning evaluation tool that supports 21st century skills. This research includes development research in four stages, namely: decide, design, develop, and evaluate. The results of this study indicate that the tools developed by the teacher are in complete category, the learning objectives are clear, although the stages in part still need to be improved. Learning evaluation instruments developed by the teacher have met the principles of assessment, the presentation is in accordance with the curriculum, the sentence in the question is quite communicative, uses good and correct language and does not cause multiple interpretations. However, the majority of questions made by teachers still measure low-level thinking skills. This is because teachers have not been trained in developing questions that measure high-level thinking skills. An evaluation tool that was then developed together with the teacher was intended to perfect the shortcomings of the previous evaluation toolKeywords: 21st Century Skills, Learning Evaluation Tools, Middle School Science
