Abstract

Generally in the learning process students tend to be passive in finding out the concept. Students just rewrite the existing conceptss, so that their learning outcomes are less. To obtainthe improvement of students’ learning outcome it required a learning model, one of them is cooperative learning model TSTS. This study aims to apply student-centered in the learning process of SMA Negeri 1 Sausu, and to investigate the students’ learning outcomes with the application of the learning model TSTS type and the conventional on chemistry subject at the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Sausu. This research is experimental research with quasi experiment design. The population is the whole tenth grade students numbered 124 studends with the sample taken purposively where class B as for the control class numbered 31 students and class D as for the experimental class numbered 31 students. The results of the data analysis obtained the average score of the experimental class is 7.04 with deviation standard is 2.85 and control class is 5.43 with deviation standard is 3.11. from the results of testing hypothesis obtained tcounted = 2.26 and ttable = 2.00 at α = 0.05, so that H1 is accepted and H0 is rejected. These data showed that students’ learning outcomes with the implementation of cooperative learning model TSTS were higher than conventional learning model on the subject of chemistry at the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Sausu.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine glucose and ethanol levels from fermentation of peel waste of breadfruit. Glucose level was determined using UV-Vis spectrophotometer and then continued with fermentation of glucose from hydrolysis process using yeast tape (saccharomyces cerevisiae) for 3 days to produce bioethanol. The step in this study was the sample preparation, the acid variations in hydrolysis with HCl, H2SO4, H3PO4 (10%) and the fermentation. Determination of ethanol from the fermentation of glucose was measured by using alkoholmeter. The highest glucose level was 0.68% which was from hydrolysis using HCl and the highest ethanol level was 9% which obtained from the fermentation of glucose by using HCl hydrolysis. The conclusion shows that the type of acid used to reach optimum hydrolysis of the breadfruit’s peel is HCl.

Abstract

Taro plant contains high enough of carbohydrate, so it can be used as an alternative raw material for producing bioethanol. This study aimed to determine the ratio of hydrochloric acid to taro root starch and hydrolysis time of taro root starch for producing a high sugar content, as well as to determine the bioethanol content produced from the fermentation of taro root starch using baker’s yeast. The results showed that the best ratio of hydrochloric acid 15% to the taro root starch was at 10:1 (v/w), resulted in a total sugar content of 0.651%. The best hydrolysis time of taro root starch was 2.5 hours, resulted in sugar content of 0.653%. The fermentation of sugar resulted in from hydrolysis was carried out at room temperature for 5 days. The ethanol content obtained from the fermentation was 7.716%.

Abstract

Estuarine waters is the meeting place of various estuaries to the open sea, which causes the estuarine water vulnerable to pollution by heavy metals. The source of pollution in the waters may come from gold mining activities, workshop waste, agricultural waste, motor vehicles activities, and domestic industrial activity. The pollutant materials may vary and one of which is heavy metal such as Pb dan Cu. Estuarine water of Palu Bay extends along a semicircle around the city. The bay is also the source of income of the lical fishermen. One of the commodity fish in the water is yellow goat fish (Upeneus sulphureus).This study aimed to determine the levels of lead (Pb) and copper (Cu) containing in yellow goat fish (upeneus sulphureus) that live in the water of the Palu gulf, Central Sulawesi Tengah. This study started by making field notes on the observation around Palu Bay. The next stage is to do the yellow goat fish sampling (Upeneus sulphureus) in the Palu Gulf then continuing to conduct the research in the chemistry Laboratory in Teacher Training and Education Factulty. To measure the level of lead and copper metal in yellow goat fish (Upeneus sulphureus) in Palu Bay, the researcherof, employed Direct Spectro tool. The data obtained were analyzed descriptively, which compared to the standard quality of food by the General Director of Drug and Food Control No. 03725/B/SK/VII/89 and ISO 7387:2009. The results showed that levels of lead metal in yellow goat fish (upeneus sulphureus) were 0,567 mg/kg, meaning that the levels of lead metal has exceeded the threshold value of the specified foods (0,3 mg/kg). While the copper metal content in yellow goat fish (Upeneus sulphureus) was 2,237 mg/kg and still below the specified threshold (5 mg/kg).

Abstract

Study on the purification and quality test of used cooking oil with turmeric has been done. This study aims to determine the quality of cooking oil after purified turmeric. The quality parameters of oil studied were the moisture content, free fatty acids (FFA), and peroxide. The methods used for determination of these parameters were gravimetry for moisture content, acid-base titration for free fatty acids, and iodometric for peroxide. The test results for water from 0.6% to 0.4% free fatty acid from 1.2% to 0.2%, and peroxide levels before and after purification were successively from and 6 meq/g to 4 meq/g, respectively. Only free fatty acids of all three parameters met the requirement of SNI.

Abstract

Celery (apium graveolens L.) contains chemicals that can be used as traditional medicine for various treatments. The research objective is to determine the effect of celery (apium graveolens L.) extractsin dissolving calcium kidney stones and calcium to determine the relationship between the concentration of extract of celery (apium graveolens L.) with the solubility of calcium in the kidney stones. Determination of the solubility of calcium in an extract of celery is by flame fotometer. The concentration of the extract was varried into 1, 5, 10, 15 and 20%. It showed that a concentration of 1% can dissolve the calcium as much as 15.104%; concentration of 5% can dissolve the calcium as much as 18.708%; concentration of 10% can dissolve the calcium as much as 23.683%; concentration of 15% can dissolve the calcium as much as 28.869%; and to a concentration of 20% can dissolve the calcium as much as 35.048%. It can be concluded that celeries extract can dissolve calcium of kidney stones.

Abstract

This research is motivated by low achievement and lack of chemistry students in learning activities especially on the subject of colloids. Based on observations in SMA Negeri 1 Dolo, it has known that the process of teaching and learning suggests that teachers in teaching chemistry concepts and theories through learning activities centered on the teacher or just direct instruction, students were not actively engaged in activities and less opportunity to develop the students thinking process, so the learning process tends boring and turned to student learning laziness. These problems could be overcome by using a type of learning model NHT (Numbered Heads Together). This study aims to figure out the Effects of Cooperative Learning Model Type NHT (Numbered Heads Together) on Student Results of Class XI IPA SMAN I Dolo on topic Colloids. The population in this study was the students of class XI SMA Negeri 1 Dolo 2012/2013 school year, and the research sample was 33 students of class XI IPA 3 as the experimental class (learning by using NHT), and 34 students of class XI IPA 2 as a control class (direct learning). Data were obtained by providing post-test to both samples group. After that, the data were analyzed to test the hypothesis by using one tail t-test. The average and the deviation standard obtained for the experimental class was 64.15 and 10.75. While the average and deviation standard for control class was 53,03 and 10,21. Based on t-test analysis, it can be concluded that the learning outcomes of students who use cooperative learning model NHT (Numbered Heads Together) is higher than student learning outcomes using direct instructional model.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine flavonoids and vitamin C levels contained in forest onion bulbs (Eleutherine bulbosa (Mill) Urb). Determination of the levels of flavonoids in forest onion bulbs extracted by maceration in etanol-HCl 1%, while vitamin C is extracted with 96% ethanol. Flavonoids and vitamin C levels in samples of forest onion bulbs were determined using UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The result showed that the flavonoids levels obtained was as much as 13.4058 mg/ 100 g, while vitamin C levels was as much as 31.678 mg/100 g.

Abstract

Palm fibers are solid waste from the palm oil processing plant. Palm fibers can be used as an alternative fuels for traditional and modern (bioethanol). This study aims to determine the amount of heat generated from the burning of palm fibers, and determine the number of conversions of bioethanol from palm fibers through the fermentation techniques. In this study used a bomb calorimeter is determine heat value and apply through fermentation using saccharomyces cereviseae in various times of 5 and 11 days to synthesis ethanol. The step in this study were sample preparation, delignification, hydrolysis with acid variation, and fermentation. Determination of bioethanol content from the fermentation was analysed using ethanol sensor. The heat value of palm fibers is equal to 4708.21 cal/g and the highest ethanol fermented product obtained on days 11, ie 5.23%. It can be concluded that palm fibers can be used potentially as an alternative renewable fuels to substitute coal or diesel power.

Abstract

The most fish species live in lake Lindu is mujair fish with the average number production of 1080 per day. The scales and fins of mujair fish are the biggest waste that is produced from the processing of this fish and they were just thrown away, which can pollute the environment. The aim of this study is to analyze the level of calcium (Ca) and phosphorus (P) on waste of mujair fish (scales and fins) from the lake Lindu as a basic ingredient of a liquid organic fertilizer. Samples of the scales and fins were taken from a seller mujair fish at Touwa street Palu. To analyze the level of calcium (Ca) and phosphorus (P) from the scales and fins was used a Spectrodirect. Based on the results of the analysis, the average of level of calcium (Ca) in the scales and fins was 4.98 mg/L and 33.33 mg/L, while the average of level of phosphorus (P) was 73.33 mg/L and 145.33 mg/L. The average concentration of dry weight of Ca in samples of the scales was 3,32 mg/kg and the fins was 22,22 mg/kg. The average concentration of the dry weight of P in samples of the scales was 48,88 mg/kg and the fins was 96,88 mg/kg. The results of this analysis showed that the highest concentration of calcium (Ca) and phosphorus (P) was in the fins of mujair fish.
