Abstract

Mathematical communication skills are one of the standard abilities in mathematics learning that students must have. In fact, it was found that the grade 10 students at one of the senior high schools in Kupang were still lacking in communicating both orally and in writing in mathematics learning. They lacked the ability to describe mathematical ideas using written symbols and notations and also lacked the ability to make class presentations using mathematical language. The purpose of this study was to improve students' mathematical communication skills, both written and oral, by applying the Think-Talk-Write method. The method used in this research was classroom action research with the Kemmis and McTaggart model in three cycles. The research instruments used were observation sheets, questionnaires, rubric sheets for oral mathematic communication skills, written mathematical communication skills test sheets, and reflection journals. Based on the results of the analysis, the application of the Think-Talk-Write method can improve mathematical communication ability of grade 10 students at a  senior high school in Kupang. In mathematical communication skills written algebraically or graphically using mathematical terms, the appropriate notation and formula symbols increased by 4.76%. Written communication skill with the arrangement of arguments and generalizations increased by 28.57%. Similarly, the ability to convey mathematical thinking using mathematical language increased by 23.81%. The application of the Think-Talk-Write method can improve students' mathematical communication skills with stages starting from the explanation of the model and learning objectives, the distribution of question worksheets and materials, the think stage, the talk stage, and the write stage.BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRACT: Kemampuan komunikasi matematis merupakan salah satu standar kemampuan dalam pembelajaran matematika yang harus dimiliki siswa. Pada kenyataannya ditemukan bahwa siswa kelas X pada salah satu sekolah menengah atas Kupang masih kurang dalam berkomunikasi baik secara lisan maupun tulisan dalam pembelajaran matematika. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa baik secara tulisan maupun lisan dengan menerapkan metode Think-Talk-Write. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian tindakan kelas dengan model Kemmis dan Mc. Taggart dalam tiga siklus. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu lembar observasi, lembar angket, lembar rubrik kemampuan komunikasi matematis lisan, lembar tes kemampuan komunikasi matematis tertulis, dan jurnal refleksi. Berdasarkan hasil analisis, kemampuan komunikasi matematis tertulis secara aljabar atau grafik yang menggunakan istilah matematika, simbol notasi dan formula baku yang sesuai mengalami peningkatan sebesar 4,76%. Pada kemampuan komunikasi tertulis dengan susunan argumen dan generalisasi mengalami peningkatan sebesar 28,57%. Begitu juga pada kemampuan menyampaikan pemikiran matematis menggunakan bahasa matematis mengalami peningkatan sebesar 23,81%. Sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa penerapan metode Think-Talk-Write dapat meningkatkan kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa dengan tahapan mulai dari penjelasan model dan tujuan pembelajaran, pembagian lembar kerja soal dan materi, tahap Think, tahap Talk, dan tahap Write.

Abstract

Critical thinking is one of the most important issues in education. However, based on field observation results it is found that students have low critical thinking skills. One reason is that learning activities in the classroom do not foster students’ critical thinking skills. The purpose of this research study to enhance students’ critical skills by implementing the Problem-based Learning (PBL) method. The research subjects were 29 grade 7 students in a junior high school in Manado. The research method used was Classroom Action Research (CAR), conducted from September 12 to November 3, 2017. The instruments used were diagnostic tests, pre-tests and post-tests, observation sheets, student interviews, checklists by observers and students, and the researcher’s reflection journal. Data results were analyzed using the descriptive qualitative method. The results showed that the implementation of the PBL method was able to enhance students’ critical thinking skills in learning math with the achievement percentage of students who passed the KKM for pre-test and post-test based on the overall data analysis result from cycle one to two showing an enhancement of 22% on the first indicator, 9% on the third indicator, and 2% on the fourth indicator. The second indicator showed no enhancement amd there was a decrease of 8% on the fifth indicator. Therefore, the PBL method is effective in enhancing students’ critical thinking skills through each stage of the method in the learning process.BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRACT: Kemampuan berpikir kritis adalah salah satu hal terpenting dalam dunia pendidikan. Namun, berdasarkan observasi di lapangan ditemukan bahwa siswa memiliki keterampilan berpikir kritis yang rendah. Salah satu penyebabnya adalah aktivitas pembelajaran di kelas tidak melatih keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa. Adapun tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa menggunakan metode Problem-based Learning (PBL). Subyek penelitian adalah 29 siswa kelas VII di suatu SMP di Manado. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK), dilakukan dari September sampai dengan November 2017. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah diagnostic test, pre-test dan post-test, lembar observasi, wawancara siswa, checklistoleh pengamat dan siswa, dan jurnal refleksi peneliti. Analisis data hasil penelitian menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penerapan metode PBL mampu meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa dalam pembelajaran matematika dengan peningkatan indikator satu sebesar 22%, indikator tiga sebesar 9%, dan indikator empat sebesar 2%. Adapun untuk indikator dua tidak mengalami peningkatan dan indikator lima mengalami penurunan sebesar 8%. Dengan demikian, metode PBL terbukti efektif meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa melalui setiap tahapan metode dalam proses pembelajaran.

Abstract

Spiritual intelligence is intelligence that motivates human beings to discover the meaning and purpose of life and encourages growth in creativity, morals and character. One factor that affects learning outcomes is spiritual intelligence. This research aims to see the correlation between spiritual intelligence (SI) and students’ cognitive learning outcomes. The research method used was a quantitative causal correlational with a saturated sampling technique (sample member is the same as population member). The data was collected by using a questionnaire to measure students’ spiritual intelligence and a test to measure students’ cognitive learning outcomes. Product Moment Correlation was used to test the instrument’s validity while Alpha Cronbach and Guttman Split Half was used to test the instrument’s reliability. Rank Spearman was used to calculate the coefficient correlation. All the data was analyzed using SPSS 20. The research showed that there is positive correlation between students’ spiritual intelligence and their cognitive learning outcomes (r = 0.2317).BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRACT: Kecerdasan spiritual (SI) merupakan kecerdasan yang mendorong manusia menemukan makna dan tujuan hidup serta mendorong bertumbuh dalam kreativitas, moral, maupun karakter. Salah satu faktor yang mempengaruhi hasil belajar adalah kecerdasan spiritual. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk melihat hubungan antara kecerdasan spiritual dengan hasil belajar kognitif siswa pada pembelajaran Matematika. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode kuantitatif kausal korelasional.Teknik sampling yang digunakan adalah sampling jenuh, yaitu seluruh populasi dijadikan sampel penelitian. Metode pengumpulan data menggunakan angket untuk mengukur variabel kecerdasan spiritual dan tes untuk mengukur variabel hasil belajar kognitif siswa. Uji validitas instrumen menggunakan korelasi product moment dan reliabilitas instrumen menggunakan alpha cronbach’s serta guttman split half. Uji koefisien korelasi menggunakan rumus rank spearman dan menggunakan SPSS 20 untuk menganalisis data. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat hubungan positif antara kecerdasan spiritual dengan hasil belajar kognitif siswa (r = 0.2317)

Abstract

A learning trajectory offers a description of key aspects in planning mathematics learning. It also helps teachers follow and interpret students’ mathematical thinking, so that learning can be developed in accordance with the characteristics of students, and even become a tool for teachers to develop curriculum. There are three main components of learning trajectory: learning goals, learning activities, and hypothetical learning processes. In this article, we constructed a learning trajectory of the quadratic inequality. This qualitative study used didactical design research with 105 grade 10 students as the participants. In the prospective analysis step, didactic design, learning obstacle, and quadratic inequality system were analyzed. Based on the results of this analysis, we constructed hypothetical learning trajectories in the form of didactical design. Then, hyphothetical learning trajectories were implemented in the learning process. Student’s responses were analyzed qualitatively. Results of this analysis were used to revise the learning trajectory in order to obtain alternative trajectory learning outcomes of theoretical and empirical analysis. Finally, this article offers an alternative learning trajectory of quadratic inequalities that are different from the existing learning trajectories presented in the current textbook. The learning trajectory that is offered is the learning quadratic inequality which starts from the function approach. BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRACT: Learning trajectory (LT) menawarkan sebuah deskripsi akan aspek kunci dalam perencanaan pembelajaran matematika. LT juga membantu guru belajar dalam mengikuti dan menginterpretasi cara berpikir matematisnya siswa, sehingga pembelajaran dapat dikembangkan sesuai dengan karateristik siswa, bahkan menjadi alat bagi guru untuk mengembangkan kurikulum.  Ada tiga komponen utama dari learning trajectory, yaitu: tujuan pembelajaran (learning goals), kegiatan pembelajaran (learning activities) dan hipotesis proses belajar siswa (hypothetical learning process). Dalam artikel ini akan dikonstruksi sebuah LT pertidaksamaan kuadrat. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan didactical design research. Adapun partisipan sebanyak 105 siswa kelas X. Pada awal penelitian ini, dilakukan analisis propektif yaitu analisis atas materi pertidaksamaan kuadrat, hambatan belajar dan tingkat berpikir siswa. Kemudian dari hasil analisis ini disusunlah Hipotetical Learning Trajectories yang berupa desain didaktis. Desain didaktis berdasarkan Hypotetical Learning Trajectories ini diimplementasikan dalam pembelajaran. Respon siswa dianalisis secara kualitatif. Hasil analisis ini digunakan untuk merevisi Learning Trajectory, sehingga diperoleh Learning Trajectory alternatif hasil analisis teoritik dan empirik. Akhirnya, artikel ini menawarkan sebuah alternatif learning trajectory pertidaksamaan kuadrat yang berbeda dengan learning trajectories yang ada pada buku pelajaran sekarang. Learning trajectory yang ditawarkan adalah pembelajaran pertidaksamaan yang dimulai dengan pendekatan fungsi.

Abstract

Creativity is a very important aspect of learning, including learning mathematics, because creativity helps students in problem solving. This article is an associative quantitative correlational research to determine the relationship between creativity and cognitive learning outcomes of students in grade 10 (basic science track) at a high school in Tangerang. Data collection techniques were carried out by questionnaires and tests. The questionnaire obtained data on the students' creativity and the tests gathered data on the students' cognitive learning outcomes. The results of the study showed that the creativity of the students were categorized as (1) high (14.29%) , (2) quite high at 55.10%, (3) fair (26.53%) and (4) low (4.08 %). For the cognitive learning outcomes, students were categorized as (1) high (44.90%), (2) quite high (28.57%), (3) average (22.45%) and (4) low (4.08%). This study shows that there is a positive and significant association (r = 0.372, p = 0.004) between creativity and cognitive learning outcomes of these grade 10 students presented by the regression equation Y = 9.908 + 0.638 X.BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRACT: Kreativitas merupakan salah satu aspek yang sangat penting dalam pembelajaran, termasuk dalam pembelajaran matematika, karena kreativitas membantu siswa dalam pemecahan masalah.  Artikel ini merupakan suatu penelitian kuantitatif asosiatif korelasional untuk mengetahui ada tidaknya hubungan antara kreativitas dengan hasil belajar kognitif siswa kelas X IPA Basic SMA ABC Tangerang. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan angket dan tes. Angket digunakan untuk memperoleh data mengenai kreativitas siswa dan tes untuk memperoleh data mengenai hasil belajar kognitif siswa. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa kreatifitas siswa kelas X IPA Basic SMA ABC Tangerang dapat dikategorikan sebagai (1) tinggi (14,29%), (2) cukup tinggi (55,10%), (3) rata-rata (26,53%) dan (4) rendah (4,08%). Sedangkan hasil belajar kognitif siswa kelas X IPA Basic SMA ABC  Tangerang dapat dikategorikan sebagai (1) tinggi (44,90%), cukup tinggi (28,57%), rata-rata (22,45%) (4) rendah (4,08%). Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat asosiasi positif dan signifikan ( r = 0.372, p = 0.004) antara kreativitas dengan hasil belajar kognitif siswa kelas X IPA Basic SMA ABC, yang dinyatakan dengan persamaan regresi.

Abstract

Based on observations and summative test results, the researcher identified that students' difficulties in learning quadratic equations and functions was conceptual understanding. Conceptual understanding enables students to analyze, integrate, and apply a concept in different situations. The purpose of the research was to see if the implementation of the Reception-Oriented CAM with worksheets improved students’ conceptual understanding and to find an effective way to implement the method. The researcher used a two-cycle Classroom Action Research of Pelton’s with seven grade 10 female students at a Christian school in Tangerang as the research subjects. Data was collected by test sheets, observation sheets, feedback sheets, and documentation. The result showed that the Reception-Oriented CAM with worksheets could improve students’ conceptual understanding in learning quadratic equations and functions. Another result showed that an effective way to implement Reception-Oriented CAM with worksheets was through implementing all the phases of the method thoroughly by giving more time in phase three and giving detailed instruction to the students. BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRACT: Berdasarkan pengamatan dan hasil tes sumatif, peneliti mengidentifikasi bahwa kesulitan siswa dalam belajar persamaan dan fungsi kuadrat adalah dalam memahami konsep. Pemahaman konsep memungkinkan siswa untuk menganalisis, mengitegrasi, dan menerapkan konsep dalam berbagai situasi. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk melihat manfaat penggunaan Reception Oriented CAM dengan lembar kerja untuk meningkatkan pemahaman konsep dan menemukan suatu cara yang efektif dalam penerapan metode tersebut. Penelitian tuindakan kelas dua siklus dengan model Pelton ini mengambil subyek tujuh siswi kelas 10 di suatu Sekolah Kristen di Tangerang. Data dikumpulkan dengan lembar tes, observasi, lembar umpan balik, dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa metode Reception Oriented CAM dengan lembar kerja dapat meningkatgkan pemahaman konsep siswa dalam pembelajaran persamaan dan fungsi kuadrat. Hasil penelitian juga menunjukkan bahwa cara yang efektif untuk menerapkan Reception Oriented CAM dengan lembar kerja adalah dengan cara memberikan waktu yang cukup pada langkah ke tiga dan memberikan instruksi dengan detail kepada siswa-siswa sebelum pembelajaran dimulai.

Abstract

As an integral part of learning, assessments play important roles in determining the effectiveness of students’ learning. However, in a grade 9 extended mathematics class at an International located in Bogor, it was found that the students showed negative behaviors during the test and learning processes as a manifestation of their attitudes toward assessments. Therefore, the Classroom Action Research modelled by Robert Pelton was conducted to improve students’ positive attitudes toward both formative assessment and summative assessment. As a result, by implementing the student portfolios in sixteen meetings, the students’ positive attitudes toward assessments were developing. This improvement was influenced by the involvement of cognitive, affective, and behavioral responses while the students were developing the student portfolios in this CAR scope and sequence.

Abstract

Christian education plays a very significant role in guiding a person in true knowledge and the work of the Triune God as stated in the Bible. The righteousness of God centered on Christ will underlie all human life as God's glorious creation. God's truth will guide every believer to teach the principle of knowing God through education. This responsibility is very important as Christian education is facing various challenges of the times that are not faithful to the Bible. The learning process carried out only fulfills the cognitive aspect or renewal of character in general and does not touch the source of knowledge, that is, the true God. As a result, students understand learning based on personal ability and experience but do not recognize the main source, namely God himself. This research aims to explore Bible principles as the foundational basis of Christian education. To achieve these objectives, this research uses literary research by examining various educational problems faced by Christians, various phenomena of the learning process that occur through various writings by experts in education and relevant theological fields. Some texts in the Bible will be examined according to the framework of reformed theology and related to the field of Christian education. This research shows that Christian education leads students to know God, experience renewal of life in Christ, and understand that God is the source of knowledge. Therefore, Christian education must be based on God's truth in the Bible.BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRAK: Pendidikan Kristen memiliki peran yang sangat signifikan untuk menuntun pengenalan yang benar akan pribadi dan karya Allah Tritunggal sebagaimana dinyatakan di dalam Alkitab. Kebenaran Allah yang berpusat kepada Kristus akan mendasari segala kehidupan manusia sebagai ciptaan Tuhan yang mulia. Kebenaran Allah akan menuntun setiap orang percaya untuk mengajarkan prinsip pengenalan akan Allah melalui pendidikan. Tanggung jawab ini begitu penting mengingat pengembangan pendidikan Kristen menghadapi berbagai tantangan zaman yang tidak setia dengan Alkitab. Proses pembelajaran yang dilakukan hanya memenuhi aspek kognitif atau pembaharuan karakter secara umum dan tidak menyentuh sumber pengetahuan tersebut yaitu Allah sejati. Akibatnya peserta didik memahami pembelajaran berdasarkan kemampuan dan pengalaman pribadi, tetapi tidak mengenali sumber utamanya yaitu Allah sendiri. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menggali prinsip Alkitab sebagai dasar-dasar pendidikan Kristen. Untuk mencapai tujuan tersebut, penelitian ini menggunakan riset literatur dengan meneliti berbagai permasalahan pendidikan yang dihadapi oleh orang Kristen, dan berbagai fenomena proses pembelajaran yang terjadi melalui berbagai tulisan para ahli bidang pendidikan dan bidang teologi yang relevan. Beberapa teks dalam Alkitab akan dikaji berdasarkan kerangka teologi reformed dan dihubungkan dengan bidang pendidikan Kristen. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa pendidikan Kristen menuntun siswa mengenal Allah, mengalami pembaharuan hidup di dalam Kristus, dan memahami bahwa ilmu pengetahuan bersumber dari Allah. Oleh karena itu, pendidikan Kristen harus berdasarkan kebenaran Allah dalam Alkitab.

Abstract

Geometry is a branch of science in mathematics and a course taken by students of mathematics education. Based on students' final exam scores, results were not optimal with several types of errors detected. This study aimed at identify student mistakes in solving geometry problems on the topic of solid figures. The subjects of this study were mathematics education students in the even semester of the 2018/2019 academic year at Universitas Pelita Harapan in Tangerang. The type of research was a qualitative descriptive study. The data collection technique used was a test. The results showed that students' errors in solving geometry problems were concept errors, calculation errors, and a lack of accuracy because they were in a hurry.BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRACT: Geometri merupakan salah satu cabang ilmu dalam matematika dan merupakan matakuliah yang wajib diikuti oleh mahasiswa program studi pendidikan matematika. Berdasarkan nilai ujian akhir semester mahasiswa didapatkan hasilnya masih kurang maksimal, hal ini memungkinkan terdapat beberapa tipe kesalahan jawaban dari mahasiswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi kesalahan mahasiswa dalam menyelesaikan soal UAS geometri pada topik bangun ruang. Subjek penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa pendidikan matematika semester genap Universitas Pelita Harapan Tangerang tahun akademik 2018/2019. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah tes. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kesalahan mahasiswa dalam menyelesaikan soal geometri adalah kesalahan konsep, kesalahan hitung, dan kurang teliti karena terburu-buru.

Abstract

This research aimed to: 1) compare the mathematical critical thinking skills of students who were taught with the Problem Based Learning model assisted by open-ended problems and students who were traditionally taught, 2) investigate the interaction between problem based learning models with mathematical attitudes towards students' mathematical critical thinking abilities. It was a quantitative study using a quasi-experimental method with a 2 x 2 factorial design and was conducted at SMA Negeri 1 Cibal, Manggarai district, East Nusa Tenggara. Two classes were experimental and two classes were control and were chosen using cluster random sampling techniques. Data were obtained through questions to measure mathematical critical thinking skills and mathematical attitude questions and then analyzed with two way ANOVA. The data analysis and interpretation showed that 1) the mathematical critical thinking skills of students who were taught with the Problem Based Learning model assisted by open-ended problems were better than those of students who have been traditionally taught 2) there was no interaction between the problem based learning model and students' mathematical critical thinking abilities. This means that both students who had high and low mathematical attitudes scores when taught with the Problem Based Learning approach assisted with open-ended problems were always better than students who are taught with conventional approaches.BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRACT: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk; 1) membandingkan kemampuan berpikir kritis matematika siswa yang mengikuti model problem based learning berbantuan masalah open-ended dengan kemampuan berpikir kritis matematika siswa yang mengikuti pembelajaran konvensional. 2) melihat interaksi antara model problem based learning dengan sikap matematis terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis matematika siswa. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimen semu (quasi experiment) dengan rancangan factorial 2 x 2. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas X SMA Negeri 1 Cibal kabupaten Manggarai, Nusa Tenggara Timur. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan dengan menggunakan teknik cluster random sampling, 2 kelas sebagai kelas eksperimen dan 2 kelas sebagai kelas kontrol. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan berupa tes kemampuan berpikir kritis matematika dan tes sikap matematis. Data yang telah terkumpul dianalisis dengan menggunakan uji Anava Dua Jalur. Sebelum digunakan uji anava dua jalur, data tersebut terlebih dahulu dilakukan uji normalitas dan homogenitas. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan; 1) kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa yang mengikuti pembelajaran matematika dengan model Problem Based Learning berbantuan masalah open-ended lebih baik daripada siswa yang mengikuti pembelajaran matematika dengan pendekatan konvensional; 2) tidak terdapat interaksi antara pendekatan pembelajaran Problem Based Learning dengan sikap matematis siswa terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis matematika siswa. Artinya baik siswa yang memiliki sikap matematis tinggi maupun yang memiliki sikap matematis rendah apabila diajarkan dengan pendekatan pembelajaran Problem Based Learning berbantuan masalah open-ended selalu lebih baik dibanding siswa yang dibelajarkan dengan pendekatan konvensional.
