Abstract

The purposes of this research are to investigate the needs and expectations from primary teachers of having a digital student agenda and develop a suggested model to be used during home-based learning. Open-ended questionnaire was distributed to primary teachers in a private Christian school located in Tangerang and an interview was done with the head of academic coordinator as well as with the primary curriculum coordinator to collect data. At the same time, a digital student agenda model was constructed, considering its possibilities to cover affective and spiritual aspects that allow more holistic development in the primary students lives assisted by their parents. A research and development research method was used to produce a suggested model of a digital student agenda. The results show that both primary teachers and the academic coordinator agree to have a digital student agenda that promotes more communication between teachers and parents. It is recommended this preliminary research is followed by a micro and macro-scale testing to ensure its reliability and further expanded use.

Abstract

Math is considered to be one of the subjects that make it difficult for students to concentrate during the learning process because their brains become tired and tense. One of the most popular and trusted ways to improve learning is by using a 'gym gym' approach. Therefore, the researchers wanted to see whether the 'gym gym' approach could improve learning concentration. The research used a quasi-experimental post-test only control group design. The population was the students of class XI Science Basic General Math A and B, while the sample was 15 students from XI Science B as the experimental group. Using the Mann-Whitney U-test with an alpha level of 0.05 indicated the asymptote Sig of 0.001 <0.05. This means that the concentration of learning in the experimental group was lower than that of the control group so it is concluded that the ‘brain gym’ approach did not significantly affect students’ concentrationBAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRAK: Matematika menjadi salah satu pelajaran sulit yang menyebabkan siswa susah untuk berkonsentrasi selama belajar karena otak menjadi lelah dan tegang. Salah satu cara yang populer dan dipercaya dapat meningkatkan konsentrasi belajar adalah brain gym. Sehingga peneliti ingin melihat apakah terdapat  pengaruh brain gym terhadap konsentrasi belajar siswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan kuasi eksperimen desain post-test only control group. Populasi penelitian ini adalah kelas XI IPA A dan B dengan sampel 15 siswa dari kelas XI IPA B sebagai kelompok kontrol dan 15 siswa dari kelas XI IPA A sebagai kelompok eksperimen. Dengan menggunakan Mann-Whitney U-test dengan tingkat alfa 0,05 menunjukkan asymp. Sig sebesar 0,001<0,05. Hal ini berarti konsentrasi belajar pada kelompok eksperimen lebih rendah dari pada kelompok kontrol sehingga disimpulkan bahwa brain gym tidak berpengaruh terhadap konsentrasi belajar siswa.

Abstract

There have been many ways offered as professional development (PD) for language teachers as well as conferences discussing its trends and alternatives. However, the world is facing CoVid19 pandemic that changes the context and media of English language teaching and learning in primary classrooms at present. Therefore, there is a need for novice teachers to be equipped by ways and opportunities in professional development that suit with the existing context and available media to apply PD. A preliminary cross-sectional survey was done in late July 2020 to get feedback on the ways primary English teachers of two private schools in West Jakarta did professional development. Possible solutions and opportunities are offered to assist them having a sustainable and meaningful professional development in the future during home-based learning (HBL) due to CoVid19 pandemic.The conclusion of the research is the primary English teachers have done various PD ways and need internal and external support from the school and local government mainly in the infrastructure, in order to provide the best possibility of the new learning experience with the students in the online classroom.

Abstract

Pandemi CoVid19 yang berkelanjutan dengan adanya pemberlakuan pembatasan kegiatan masyarakat (ppkm) mikro yang berkepanjangan menyebabkan bertambahnya pengangguran, pembatalan pembelajaran tatap muka bagi siswa/i sekolah dasar, dan sulitnya mempertahankan keberlangsungan serta kualitas bimbingan belajar (bimbel). Hal-hal tersebut dialami jemaat dan aktivis gereja usia produktif, baik yang belum berkeluarga, maupun yang sudah berkeluarga dimana para ibu rumah tangga sangat memerlukan kecakapan menjadi guru bagi anak-anak mereka di rumah ketika home-based learning. Oleh karena itu, tujuan dari pelatihan manajemen bimbingan belajar yang juga mencakup pedagogi mengajar Matematika dasar serta Bahasa Inggris adalah untuk memampukan peserta membuka dan mempertahankan bimbel online, membuka lapangan pekerjaan bagi mereka yang terdampak pandemic dan memampukan para ibu rumah tangga mendampingi putra-putri mereka di tahun ajaran baru 2021/2022. Setelah melakukan needs analysis melalui e-form yang dibagikan ke peserta, para dosen pengajar tidak hanya membawakan materi manajemen pendidikan serta pedagogi pembelajaran Matematika serta Bahasa Inggris dalam pelatihan sinkronus sebanyak 4 pertemuan, tetapi juga memberikan pendampingan asinkronus selama 3 minggu, diberikan kepada 30 peserta melalui media zoom dan whatsapp. Hasil kegiatan pelatihan dan pendampingan telah memampukan sebagian peserta untuk membuka bimbel baru dan mendampingi anak-anak mereka belajar Matematika dan Bahasa Inggris di rumah menggunakan sumber-sumber belajar online yang otentik.

Abstract

Abstract The experience of the teaching and learning process after the Covid-19 pandemic shows a decrease in the resilience attitude of the students of XYZ school. Not only critical thinking skill as one of the skills in the 21st century expected by the school that needs to be developed by students, but the concept of church life is also quite difficult for grade V students to understand. Thus, the purpose of this research is to implement the STAD (Student Teams Achievement Divisions) learning model to enhance critical thinking skills, resilience, and mastery of the concept of church life in class V religious subjects of XYZ elementary school by conducting classroom action research (CAR). Three instruments were used: questionnaires, observations, and tests. The data analysis results showed that the implementation of the STAD model can enhance critical thinking skills, resilience and mastery of the concept of church life for grade V C students of XYZ school. Future researchers can use this study as a basis for research related to the measured variables while also considering the proportionality of the number of students and classroom size to implement the STAD model more effectively.

Abstract

This article discusses to what extent mathematics teachers do Biblical integration in their class, explores the challenges that mathematics teachers face when they do or want to do Biblical integration, and explores the school’s expectation of Biblical integration for mathematics teachers with more clarity and intentionality. Research was conducted from September until October 2016. The research subjects were the curriculum coordinator, head of the Department of Mathematics, seven mathematics teachers, and 362 senior high students. The data collection techniques that were used were a semi-structured interview, and a questionnaire. The results of the research showed that the school’s expectation is that teachers should be able show how mathematics is capable of expressing truths about God’s work, God’s beauty, and God’s regularity because God created mathematics. All of the mathematics teachers modeled Biblical qualities. The challenges and obstacles that mathematics teachers were confronted with was that they had little time to find Biblical integration material, they did not have enough understanding, they had difficulty doing Biblical integration from the material, and the teachers were afraid that their explanations about Biblical integration would sound forced to students, especially non-Christian students.ABSTRAK BAHASA INDONESIA:  Artikel ini membahas sejauh mana guru matematika melakukan integrasi Alkitabiah di kelasnya, tantangan dan hambatan yang dihadapi oleh guru matematika saat mereka melakukan atau ingin melakukan integrasi Alkitabiah, dan untuk mencari tahu ekspetasi sekolah tentang integrasi Alkitabiah untuk guru matematika dengan lebih jelas dan mempunyai maksud. Penelitian ini dilakukan dari September sampai Oktober 2016. Subjek penelitian adalah kordinator kurikulum, kepala departemen matematika, tujuh guru matematika, dan 362 siswa sekolah menengah atas. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan yaitu wawancara terencana-tidak terstruktur dan kuisioner. Hasil dari penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ekspetasi sekolah adalah bagaimana matematika mampu menjadi tempat untuk mengantarkan siswa mengenal kebenaran seperti pekerjaan Tuhan, keindahan Tuhan, keteraturan Tuhan karena Tuhan menciptakan matematika. Kemudian, semua guru matematika menjadi contoh kualitas Alkitabiah. Hambatan dan tantangan yang dihadapi guru matematika adalah kekurangan waktu untuk menemukan integrasi Alkitabiah dari materi, mereka juga tidak mempunyai pemahaman yang cukup, mereka merasa kesulitan dalam melakukan integrasi Alkitabiah, dan guru merasa takut jika penjelasannya tentang integrasi Alkitabiah terdengar memaksa bagi siswa, terkhusus siswa yang beragama lain.

Abstract

This research used a qualitative approach with a case study design in a Christian school in Tangerang. The research’s subjects included eight mathematics teachers and 143 students from different classes, each one taught by the eight mathematics teachers. Data collection was based on interviews, observations, and distributing questionnaires. The data analysis used the Miles and Huberman model which consists of three processes: data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The research results showed that student negative behaviours included having a low self value in mathematics, saying negative words to classmates, being disrespectful towards the mathematics teachers, abusing the learning environment, and assuming God has no connection with mathematics learning. To redeem student negative behaviours, mathematics teachers at the school gave advice, warnings, consequences, and attempted to be a role model for students. Student responses towards teachers' actions can be grouped into two categories: positive responses: students receive advice, warnings, concequences and repair their negative behaviour and negative responses: students think trivially about advice, warnings, or consequences given by teachers.BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRACT: Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan desain studi kasus di suatu sekolah Kristen di Tangerang. Subjek penelitiannya adalah delapan guru Matematika dan 143 orang siswa-siswi yang masing-masing diajar oleh delapan guru tersebut. Pengumpulan data menggunakan teknik wawancara, observasi, dan penyebaran kuesioner. Teknik analisis data menggunakan model Miles dan Huberman yang terdiri dari tiga tahap yaitu reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bentuk-bentuk perilaku negatif siswa, yaitu menilai diri rendah dalam Matematika, mengeluarkan kata-kata negatif kepada teman kelas, tidak menghargai atau menghormati guru Matematika, menyalahgunakan lingkungan belajar, serta menganggap Tuhan tidak ada kaitannya dengan Matematika. Untuk memulihkan perilaku negatif siswa, guru Matematika di sekolah Kristen tersebut memberi nasihat, teguran, konsekuensi, serta berusaha menjadi teladan akan kesabaran, ketegasan dan pengampunan bagi siswa-siswinya. Respon siswa terhadap tindakan guru dikelompokkan menjadi dua kategori, yaitu positif: siswa menerima nasihat, teguran, maupun konsekuensi dan merubah perilaku negatifnya dan respon negatif: siswa menganggap sepele nasihat, teguran atau konsekuensi yang diberikan guru.

Abstract

Creativity is a very important aspect of learning, including learning mathematics, because creativity helps students in problem solving. This article is an associative quantitative correlational research to determine the relationship between creativity and cognitive learning outcomes of students in grade 10 (basic science track) at a high school in Tangerang. Data collection techniques were carried out by questionnaires and tests. The questionnaire obtained data on the students' creativity and the tests gathered data on the students' cognitive learning outcomes. The results of the study showed that the creativity of the students were categorized as (1) high (14.29%) , (2) quite high at 55.10%, (3) fair (26.53%) and (4) low (4.08 %). For the cognitive learning outcomes, students were categorized as (1) high (44.90%), (2) quite high (28.57%), (3) average (22.45%) and (4) low (4.08%). This study shows that there is a positive and significant association (r = 0.372, p = 0.004) between creativity and cognitive learning outcomes of these grade 10 students presented by the regression equation Y = 9.908 + 0.638 X.BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRACT: Kreativitas merupakan salah satu aspek yang sangat penting dalam pembelajaran, termasuk dalam pembelajaran matematika, karena kreativitas membantu siswa dalam pemecahan masalah.  Artikel ini merupakan suatu penelitian kuantitatif asosiatif korelasional untuk mengetahui ada tidaknya hubungan antara kreativitas dengan hasil belajar kognitif siswa kelas X IPA Basic SMA ABC Tangerang. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan angket dan tes. Angket digunakan untuk memperoleh data mengenai kreativitas siswa dan tes untuk memperoleh data mengenai hasil belajar kognitif siswa. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa kreatifitas siswa kelas X IPA Basic SMA ABC Tangerang dapat dikategorikan sebagai (1) tinggi (14,29%), (2) cukup tinggi (55,10%), (3) rata-rata (26,53%) dan (4) rendah (4,08%). Sedangkan hasil belajar kognitif siswa kelas X IPA Basic SMA ABC  Tangerang dapat dikategorikan sebagai (1) tinggi (44,90%), cukup tinggi (28,57%), rata-rata (22,45%) (4) rendah (4,08%). Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat asosiasi positif dan signifikan ( r = 0.372, p = 0.004) antara kreativitas dengan hasil belajar kognitif siswa kelas X IPA Basic SMA ABC, yang dinyatakan dengan persamaan regresi.

Abstract

Christian education aims to enable students to take part in serving God and others both now and forever. The barriers to learning mathematics make it difficult for students to achieve the goals of Christian education. In some cases, students are found to have barriers to learning mathematics. Based on this problem, the researchers wanted to know the types of barriers to learning mathematics, the causes, and the responses of teachers, schools, and students to these barriers. This study used the case study method of a qualitative approach and the subjects were grade 8 students. The data collection techniques used were interviews for mathematics teachers and principals as well as open-ended questionnaires for students. The results revealed that there were barriers to learning mathematics that can be categorized into internal and external factors including a lack of learning willingness on the part of the students, inappropriate views of mathematics, uncontrolled classroom conditions, and the contagion of the environment. The responses given by teachers, schools, and students about mathematics learning barriers include reviewing, giving additional lessons, and relearning either individually or through others. Suggestions for teachers and principals are to organize workshops related to mathematics learning barriers and improving teaching quality.BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRAK: Pendidikan Kristen bertujuan membuat para siswa dapat mengambil bagian pelayanan kepada Tuhan dan sesama baik sekarang maupun selamanya. Dengan adanya hambatan belajar matematika menyebabkan siswa sulit mencapai tujuan dari pendidikan Kristen. Dalam beberapa kesempatan, sering ditemukan siswa yang memiliki hambatan belajar matematika. Untuk itu peneliti ingin mengetahui macam hambatan belajar matematika, penyebabnya, serta respon guru, sekolah dan siswa terkait dengan hambatan belajar matematika. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif jenis studi kasus dengan subjek siswa kelas VIII. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan yaitu wawancara terhadap guru matematika dan kepala sekolah serta kuisioner terbuka bagi siswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat hambatan belajar matematika yang dapat dikategorikan ke dalam faktor internal dan eksternal, diantaranya siswa malas belajar, pandangan yang kurang tepat terhadap pelajaran matematika, kondisi kelas yang tidak kondusif dan pengaruh yang buruk dari lingkungan sekitar. Respon yang diberikan guru, sekolah dan siswa terhadap hambatan belajar matematika diantaranya menjelaskan kembali materi, memberikan pelajaran tambahan dan belajar kembali secara individu maupun melalui orang lain. Saran bagi guru dan kepala sekolah adalah dengan mengadakan pelatihan terkait dengan hambatan belajar matematika serta meningkatkan kualitas mengajar.

Abstract

Educational technology has grown rapidly and extensively, but unfortunately its presence in learning mathematics has not been maximized. A preliminary survey and the researchers' personal experience with the use of Smart TVs in one junior high school (SMP) motivated the researchers to do research and development (R&D) which began with a clear and comprehensive needs analysis. The aim of this research is to determine the need to further develop Smart TV learning media and explain ways to improve its use based on the conclusions of the needs analysis. The research method applied is the ADDIE Model with its stages of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation. The instrument used to collect needs analysis data is a survey which, after being validated and revised, was distributed via g-form to students, mathematics teachers, and junior high school leaders. The results of the needs analysis show that even though Smart TVs were used, the majority of students have difficulty understanding mathematical concepts because Smart TVs are not interesting and interactive. A Smart TV is just a substitute for LCDs and laptops. Therefore, researchers designed learning methods that are interesting and involve students in using Smart TVs should focus on inquiry learning methods and educational games. The implementation steps will help mathematics teachers to maximize the use of Smart TVs in the classroom.BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRACT: Teknologi pembelajaran telah berkembang begitu cepat dan luas, tetapi kehadirannya di pembelajaran Matematika belum dimaksimalkan. Beberapa sekolah telah menggunakan Smart TV sebagai media pembelajaran di kelas, tetapi survei awal dan pengalaman pribadi peneliti akan kurang maksimalnya penggunaan Smart TV di satu sekolah menengah pertama (SMP) memotivasi peneliti untuk melakukan penelitian R & D yang dimulai dengan sebuah analisis kebutuhan yang jelas dan komprehensif. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui analisis kebutuhan untuk lebih jauh mengembangkan Smart TV serta menjelaskan cara-cara pengembangan media tersebut berdasarkan temuan-temuan kesimpulan analisis kebutuhan. Model penelitian yang diterapkan dalam penelitian ini adalah model pengembangan ADDIE dengan tahapan Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation. Instrumen yang digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data analisis kebutuhan adalah survei yang setelah divalidasi dan direvisi, survei tersebut disebarkan melalui ke g-form kepada siswa/i, guru matematika dan pimpinan sekolah. Hasil analisis kebutuhan menunjukkan bahwa meskipun Smart TV telah digunakan, siswa/i masih kesulitan menguasai konsep Matematika karena Smart TV kurang menarik dan interaktif. Smart TV hanya sekedar pengganti LCD dan laptop. Oleh karena itu, peneliti merancang metode pembelajaran yang menarik dan melibatkan siswa dalam penggunaan Smart TV yaitu metode pembelajaran inquiri dan permainan edukasi. Langkah-langkah penerapannya akan menolong guru-guru Matematika untuk memaksimalkan penggunaan Smart TV di kelas.
