Abstract

The sensitivity of external financing is the main issue in developing small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) in general. A similar problem is also experienced by several batik small and medium enterprises in Central Java, Indonesia. This research strives to explore the creative alternative strategies done by batik micro, small, and medium enterprises to reduce the dependence on external capital. The samples were chosen based on a purposive sampling method in three Central Java regions, namely Pekalongan Regency, Rembang Regency, and Surakarta Municipality. The data were then analyzed using a quantitative and qualitative descriptive approach. These research findings reveal that there are variations in the bootstrapping financing method; as well as financing profiles of each in the three regions that reveal the dynamics of business funding. Referring to the description of alternative funding patterns carried out by entrepreneurs, the bootstrapping strategy can be grouped into six (6) types based on the available resources. Batik entrepreneurs can overcome their financial problem by applying bootstrapping methods, so that businesses can operate properly.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the Intellectual Capital (IC) disclosure practices of Indonesia and Malaysian universities on their official websites. This study used ten websites of best Indonesia and Malaysian universities based on 4ICU (International Colleges and Universities) 2018. The Modal intellectual framework developed by Leitner (2004) was used. The framework consists of 36 items: 10 human capital items, nine structural capital items, dan 17 relational capital items. Mann-Whitney U (non-parametric based) was used to test the hypothesis. The result shows that there was a difference between Indonesia and Malaysian universities about the level of Modal intellectual disclosure on their official websites. Generally, the percentages of IC information disclosed on Indonesia and Malaysian universities’ website is just about 50%, while the rest is undisclosed. This indicates that the awareness of the university’s management toward IC disclosure is still low. Therefore, the government role in improving the practice of IC disclosure through regulatory instruments is recommended.

Abstract

One of prominent phenomenon in capital market is month of the year effect which is the occurence of certain monthly pattern in capital market return during trading years. There were enormous researches, which had been done to explain this phenomenon in capital market but the results always varied. Unfortunately there was a few research to explain this phenomenon in commodities market. Based on these facts, research about this seasonality still need to be done both in capital market and commodities market. Data used in this study were several South East Asia monthly closing stock market indexes and several commodity product monthly closing prices such as gold, silver, platinum, paladium and West Texas Intermediate Crude Oil during January 1999 – March 2014 period. GARCH (1,1) was employed to analyze the data. The finding shows that month of the year effect still exist in capital market in South East Asia and commodity market during research period with various occurences. Each capital market and commodity market behaves variously during trading year. This may lead to an opportunity, which can be grabbed by active market switching strategy for sophisticated investors, and investors who have multiple access to regional capital markets and commodity markets.

Abstract

Beta has been argued, both conceptually as well as empirically. In 1960's, many practitioners used superior advantages in calculation attempted at CAPM theory for investing in asset which has high Beta. Many empirical researches on the later years refused the existence of security market line from CAPM. Afterwards, many practitioners and academicians stated the death of CAPM. Linear regression method could be used to make decision if it had already matched the criteria for Best Linear Unbiased Estimator. Prediction model is a statistic testing which aimsat knowing whether there is a relationship or effect between researched variables. Nonparametric method is an alternative action which is taken when the research model does not match normality assumption. This research, as shown by the use of weekly data, could be free from technical trading problems in predicted systematic risk. While ASII, HRUM, and TLKM stock returns are affected more by other factors. This condition has caused systematic risk not to affect significantly on those stocks. Another result has shown that banking stocks, which became part of LQ45, have higher systematic risk respectively.
