This journal, with ISSN 1979-0112, was firstly published on May 20, 2008, in the context to commemorate the National Awakening Day in Indonesia. The SOSIOHUMANIKA journal has been organized and published by Minda Masagi Press, a publishing house owned by ASPENSI (the Association of Indonesian Scholars of History Education) in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. The SOSIOHUMANIKA journal is published every May and November. The SOSIOHUMANIKA journal is devoted, but not limited to, Social Sciences education, Humanities education, and any new development and advancement in the field of Humanities and Social Sciences education. Abstract

RESUME: Penelitian ini bertujuan menemukan pengaruh strategi pembelajaran dan perilaku hidup sehat terhadap pengetahuan kebersihan lingkungan. Penelitian dilaksanakan di SMAN (Sekolah Menengah Atas Negeri) 78 Jakarta Barat, Indonesia, tahun ajaran 2014/2015. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kuasi eksperimen, dengan desain faktorial 2 X 2. Teknik analisis data menggunakan Analisis Varian Dua Jalur dan analisis tes Tukey. Sampel penelitian melibatkan 80 orang siswa, yang diseleksi menggunakan “cluster-random sampling”. Variabel responden terdiri atas perilaku hidup sehat; dan pengukuran dilakukan dengan menggunakan tes pengetahuan kebersihan lingkungan dalam domain kognitif. Hasil penelitian menunjukan, secara keseluruhan, siswa yang menerima pembelajaran bentuk “indoor” (didalam ruangan) menunjukan pengetahuan kebersihan lingkungan yang lebih tinggi, bila dibandingkan dengan mereka yang diberi pembelajaran dalam bentuk “outdoor” (di luar ruangan); kelompok siswa yang memiliki perilaku hidup sehat tinggi dan mereka menerima pembelajaran bentuk “outdoor”, memiliki pengetahuan kebersihan lingkungan lebih tinggi bila dibandingkan dengan yang diberi pembelajaran bentuk “indoor”; kelompok siswa yang memiliki perilaku hidup sehat rendah dan mereka menerima pembelajaran bentuk “indoor”, memiliki pengetahuan kebersihan lingkungan yang lebih tinggi bila dibandingkan dengan yang diberi pembelajaran bentuk “outdoor”; serta, pada akhirnya, terdapat pengaruh interaksi antara strategi pembelajaran dan perilaku hidup sehat terhadap pengetahuan kebersihan lingkungan.  KATA KUNCI: Strategi Pembelajaran; Perilaku Hidup Sehat; Kebersihan Lingkungan; Belajar di Dalam dan di Luar Ruangan. ABSTRACT: “The Effect of Learning Strategies and Healthy Life Behaviour toward Knowledge of Environmental Hygiene”. This research aims to discover the influence of learning strategies and healthly life behavior toward the knowledge of environmental hygiene. The research was conducted at the SMAN (Public Senior High School) 78 West Jakarta, Indonesia, on academic year 2014/2015. The research method used was quasi experiment, with 2 X 2 factorial design. Data analysis techniques used Two Ways ANOVA (Analysis of Variance) and Tukey test analysis. The sample study included 80 students, who were selected using a cluster-random sampling. Variable respondents are healthy behavior; and measurements were taken using a test of knowledge on environmental hygiene in the cognitive domain. Abstract

RESUME: Penulisan ini membincangkan tentang konsep peranan dan pengaruh komitmen pekerja dalam hubungan antara gaya kepimpinan dan keberkesanan organisasi. Komitmen pekerja didapati mampu memberi kesan kepada prestasi dan keberkesanan organisasi, kerana komitmen pekerja turut dikenali sebagai salah satu indikator pengukuran keberkesanan organisasi. Dari sudut pekerja pula, pekerja memerlukan satu mekanisme atau pengaruh rangsangan untuk memberikan komitmen yang baik terhadap organisasi. Dalam konteks ini, peranan pemimpin dalam menggalakkan pengikut untuk memberikan komitmen terhadap organisasi amat penting, kerana pemimpin merupakan tulang belakang yang menggambarkan perjalanan sesebuah organisasi, selain menentukan kejayaan dan kegagalan organisasi mencapai matlamat yang telah ditetapkan. Hasil perbincangan berdasarkan dapatan-dapatan lepas dan disokong dengan penggunaan beberapa teori dalam penulisan ini berjaya menghasilkan sebuah model yang menunjukkan peranan komitmen pekerja dalam hubungan antara gaya kepimpinan dan keberkesanan organisasi. Dalam hubungan ini, komitmen pekerja berjaya dikenali sebagai pembolehubah mediator atau mekanisme yang mampu menjadi perantara bagi dua pembolehubah, iaitu gaya kepimpinan dan keberkesanan organisasi. KATA KUNCI: Komitmen pekerja, prestasi kerja, kejayaan dan kegagalan organisasi, gaya kepimpinan, dan keberkesanan organisasi. ABSTRACT: This writing entitled “Exploring the Relationship between Leadership Style and Organizational Effectiveness towards the Role of Employee Commitment”. It is discussing on the concept of role and the influence of employees’ commitment in the relationship between leadership style and organizational effectiveness. Employees’ commitment is capable in affecting the performance and effectiveness of the organization, since it is also known as one of the indicators in measuring the effectiveness of the organization. The employees’ part, they require a mechanism or stimulus to give a good commitment to the organization. In this context, the role of a leader in promoting followers to commit the organization is very important, because the leader is the main person of an organization that reflects the journey, besides determining the success and failure of an organization to achieve its set goals. Based on literatures and supported by several theories, this paper is able to produce a model that shows the role of employee commitment in the relationship between leadership style and organizational effectiveness. Abstract

ABSTRACT: The Ministry of Higher Education of Malaysia has recently called for all public universities in Malaysia to focus more on research activities. This call is to ensure that a high quality standard of research can be achieved in order to produce more research universities in the future. Accordingly, Malaysia University of Sabah (UMS), as the ninth public university in Malaysia, has enthusiastically answered this call by encouraging and facilitating its academic staff to actively engage in research activities. UMS, however, realizes that it will take a long process before it can be regarded as a research university. Therefore, this article has identified six pro-active actions that may be taken by UMS to achieve its vision i.e. (1) strengthen physical needs; (2) increase the number of postgraduate students; (3) acquire more highly qualified needs; (3) acquire more highly qualified academicians; (4) enhance international networking; (5) form several research leaders or “Malim Sarjana”; and (6) publish and commercialize research outcomes in highly refereed journals and commercial sectors. Especially the latest, UMS should cooperate in publishing sector with some foreign universities to make its name is acknowledged and well-known by international world. Without the effort of productive and qualified publication, this beautiful and prominent infrastructure will not contribute to establishing a pioneer and superior university in research field.Key words: the policy on research university in Malaysia, challenge and respond of UMS, and some actions should be taken by UMS.      About the Authors: Prof. Madya Dr. Mohd. Abstract

RESUME: Tsunami adalah bencana yang mengancam pantai di seluruh dunia, yang berlaku dalam semua lautan di dunia, termasuk Mediterranean, Atlantik, India, Pasifik, dan juga di tasik-tasik besar. Oleh itu, kajian ini bertujuan untuk mengenalpasti impak tsunami ke atas negara-negara di persisiran Lautan Pasifik. Data kajian diperolehi daripada NOAA (“National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration” atau Pengurusan Atmosfir dan Lautan Kebangsaan) dalam “National Geophysical Data Center” atau Pusat Data Geofisik Kebangsaan. Kajian ini adalah berbentuk deskriptif dan dianalisis menggunakan SPSS (“Statistical Package for the Social Sciences” atau Paket Statistik bagi Sains Sosial). Fokus analisis adalah pada data tsunami yang berlaku di 18 negeri di pesisiran Lautan Pasifik, yang mengalami kejadian gempa bumi dasar laut berukuran > 6.1 pada skala Richter. Hasil kajian mendapati bahawa skala magnitud yang paling tinggi pernah dicapai melebihi 9.0 pada skala Richter adalah pada tahun 2004 di kawasan Indonesia, yang mengakibatkan kadar kematian paling tinggi, iaitu 227,898 orang; diikuti negara Cina pada tahun 2008 seramai 87,652 kematian; dan pada tahun 2011 di Jepun seramai 18,537 kematian. Manakala Filipina mencatatkan jumlah bilangan kecederaan dan kematian yang paling rendah, iaitu hanya melibatkan seorang sahaja. Terdapat hubung-kait yang jelas antara skala magnitud dengan bilangan kecederaan dan kematian (t > 1.96, p < 0.05). Kejadian tsunami jelas boleh memberi kesan terhadap sistem demografik penduduk. KATA KUNCI: Lautan Pasifik, bencana, tsunami, gempa bumi, negara-negara di persisiran, kecederaan, kematian, dan sistem demografik penduduk. ABSTRACT: “The Impacts of Tsunami on the Coastal Countries of the Pacific Ocean”. Tsunami is a disaster that threatens beaches around the world that occurs in all oceans of the world, including the Mediterranean, the Atlantic, Indian, Pacific, and also in the great lakes. Therefore, this study aimed to identify the impact of tsunami on the rate of deaths occurring in several countries of the Pacific area. Data were derived from the NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) in National Geophysical Data Center. This study is a descriptive study and analyzed using SPSS statistics version 22. The analysis focused on tsunami data that occurred in 18 countries around the Pacific region, which suffered major quake of more than 6.1 richter scale. The result showed that the scale of the highest magnitude ever recorded more than 9.0 richter scale was in 2004 in Indonesia, which carries the highest mortality rate of 227,898 people; followed by China in 2008 with total of deaths, 87,652; and Japan in 2011, around 18,537 deaths were recorded. While Philippines recorded a total number of injuries and deaths as low as only one victim involved in tsunami. There has been a relationship between magnitude scale and the number of death and injury (t > 1.96, p < 0.05). The tsunami tragedy clearly could affect population’s demographic system. Abstract

ABSTRACT: The management of university must be managed as the industry, because the education itself has also been become as an industry. As an industry, including in the human resource development, education must be managed professionally by so many activities such as to produce and to distribute, and to sale the education service to the people or consumer that be done by professional manpower. Meanwhile, in the economic perspectives, promotion is the activity of marketing which informs about the products in order being influenced and remembered by stakeholder. In the activity of promotion, it contains the meaning of communication. In the framework of theoretical perspective above, the objective of the study was to determine the relationship between promotion and consumer’s behavior in Indonesian higher education. The study was conducted at the University of Muhammadiyah Prof. Dr. HAMKA (UHAMKA) in Jakarta on April to June 2006 with a sample of 40 selected randomly. The study concluded that there was a positive relationship between promotion and consumer’s behavior in Indonesian higher education, whereas Y = 37 + 0.955 + 0.767 X at a = 5 meaning with 1 unit increase in promotion will cause 0.767 unit increase in consumer’s behavior in higher education. Abstract

ABSTRACT: This paper presents how formative assessment can be used in large classes. In particular, this paper discusses the use of both internal and external feedback and how students may capitalize on using external feedback to help them process and take control of their own learning, making them self-regulated learners. A key argument this paper presents is that proper planning of assessment strategies in large classes provide avenues for students to use feedback from their teachers and their peers to guide their own feedback strategies in redesigning their works. Finally, a model of formative assessment angled at both external and internal feedbacks is proposed. The results proved that formative assessment is an important classroom tool in handling large classes. Particularly, in using formative assessment, the students take charge of their own learning, thus, giving their internal feedback which is critical in defining and redefining their works. Further, the results showed that timely feed-backing is necessary in order to achieve a well designed formative assessment plan. KEY WORD: Formative assessment, large classes, planning of assessment strategies, internal and external feedback, and self-regulated learners. IKHTISAR: Makalah ini menyajikan bagaimana penilaian formatif dapat digunakan di kelas-kelas besar. Khususnya, makalah ini membahas penggunaan umpan-balik internal dan eksternal dan bagaimana siswa dapat menggunakan umpan-balik eksternal untuk membantu mereka memproses dan mengontrol pembelajaran mereka sendiri, yang membuat mereka menjadi siswa yang mampu mengatur diri mereka sendiri. Alasan utama disajikannya makalah ini adalah bahwa perencanaan strategi penilaian yang tepat di kelas-kelas besar memberikan kesempatan bagi para siswa untuk menggunakan umpan-balik dari para guru dan teman-teman mereka untuk menuntun strategi umpan-balik mereka sendiri dalam merancang kembali pekerjaan mereka. Akhirnya, suatu model penilaian formatif berbelok pada umpan-balik internal dan eksternal yang disarankan. Khususnya, dalam menggunakan penilaian formatif, para siswa mempertanggungjawabkan pembelajaran mereka sendiri, sehingga memberikan umpan-balik internal yang penting dalam menjelaskan dan menentukan kembali pekerjaan mereka. Selanjutnya, hasil kajian menunjukan bahwa pemberian umpan-balik yang tepat merupakan hal yang sangat penting untuk mencapai suatu rencana penilaian formatif yang dirancang dengan baik. Abstract

ABSTRACT: This paper discusses the vision of democracy, the various efforts to enlighten the ethics and good values in practicing democracy, especially in the relation to the current multi-dimensional political crises currently faced by the Indonesians after the 1998 Reformation movement until today. The realization of the Regional Autonomy Act in 1999 had however directly been reducing the authority of Central Government in Indonesia. This had significantly been worrying the existence of national integration. The emergence of many crises after 1997 had caused very bad social conflict be it horizontally or vertically, where at the end had jeopardized the living of Indonesians. Realizing the thinking and practicing the good values of democracy in the context of political culture of Indonesia is being viewed by this working paper as important especially to the government and the people in practicing the “Rechstaats” vision and diminishing the “Machstaats”. Therefore, exemplary governmental leadership, upholding legal correctness and justice and continuous learning and teaching process of good values in moral education, civic and law will be part of the suggestion in this paper. Key words:  ethical concept and good values, regional autonomy act, democracy education and the role of social science and humanity scholars.  About the Authors: Prof. Dr. Suwarma Al-Muchtar adalah Profesor Pengajian Sosial dan Dekan Fakulti Pendidikan Sains Sosial UPI (Universiti Pendidikan Indonesia) di Bandung. Abstract

ABSTRACT: Results of the study on community midwifery practice acquired several factors causing dissatisfaction. This dissatisfaction could be due to the poor quality of practice performed by students. This condition will affect the success of a community midwifery practices implemented. Thus, research needs to identify the dimensions of quality practices that may increase the success of midwifery practice community. This analytical research using cross sectional method by using stratified random sampling, conducted in April to May 2013 to 92 pregnant women and mothers of infant/toddlers who participated in the counseling and health screenings by students at community midwifery practice. Variable on the quality of student practice and benefits practices were measured using questionnaires. The statistical test used were the Pearson Test, the Multiple Linear Regression Test, and the most influential factor analyzed using path analysis. The results show that quality of student practice related to success of community midwifery practice (r = 0.616, p < 0.001). The most influential dimensions of quality that is empathy, assurance, and subject age as a confounding variable (p value < 0.001); and effect of combined was 33.7% (p < 0.001). Finally, the quality of student practices associated with successful community midwifery practice, the most influential dimensions are empathy and assurance.KEY WORD: Quality, service, community, midwifery, practices, dissatisfaction, students, counseling and health screening, empathy, and assurance. RESUME: “Hubungan antara Kualitas Praktek Mahasiswa dengan Keberhasilan Praktek Kebidanan Komunitas”. Hasil penelitian pada praktek kebidanan komunitas mengakuisisi beberapa faktor penyebab ketidakpuasan. Ketidakpuasan ini bisa disebabkan oleh buruknya kualitas praktek yang dilakukan oleh mahasiswa. Kondisi ini akan mempengaruhi keberhasilan suatu praktek kebidanan komunitas ketika dilaksanakan. Dengan demikian, penelitian perlu mengidentifikasi dimensi praktek berkualitas yang dapat meningkatkan keberhasilan komunitas praktek kebidanan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode analitik bagian silang dengan menggunakan sampel random bertingkat, dilakukan pada April-Mei 2013 terhadap 92 wanita hamil dan ibu bayi/balita (dibawah lima tahun) yang berpartisipasi dalam konseling dan pemeriksaan kesehatan oleh mahasiswa dalam praktik kebidanan komunitas. Variabel tentang kualitas praktek mahasiswa dan manfaat praktek diukur dengan menggunakan kuesioner. Uji statistik yang digunakan adalah uji Pearson, Tes Regresi Linier Pelbagai, dan faktor yang paling berpengaruh dianalisis dengan menggunakan analisis jalur. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kualitas praktek mahasiswa berkaitan dengan keberhasilan mahasiswa dalam praktek kebidanan komunitas (r = 0.616, p < 0.001). Dimensi yang paling berpengaruh dari kualitas itu yakni empati, jaminan, dan usia subjek sebagai variabel penyela (p value < 0.001); dan efek gabungan semuanya adalah 33.7% (p < 0.001).
