Abstract

Background: In Indonesia, on average, adolescent boys and girls have their first sexual experience when they are 15 and 19 years old, which triggers risky sexual behaviors resulting in sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), HIV/AIDS, unwanted pregnancies, abortions, and even death. Therefore, educational media is needed to increase positive behavior in adolescents. Objectives: This study aims to determine the influence of snake and ladder game media on adolescent sexual behavior. Methods:The research design was a quasi-experimental pretest and posttest group with a control group. The treatment group is teenagers who are given education with snake and ladder game media while the control group is teenagers who are given education through monopoly games. A total of 100 samples were selected using the prolpoltiolnatel stratifield random sampling technique. The data were analyzed by wilcoxon and mann whitney tests. Results: As a result, there was an influence of education with snake and ladder game media on the average knowledge score of p=0.000), attitude p=0.000), behavior p=0.000). The results of the statistical test also showed that there was an influence of monopoly game media on the average knowledge score p=0.00, attitude=0.00, behavior p=0.00. The snake and ladder game media is more effective in increasing knowledge p=0.00, attitude p=0.002 compared to monopoly game media. Conclusions: the snakes and ladders game media is more effective in increasing adolescents' knowledge about risky sexual behaviour than the monopoly game media. Health care providers must take advantage of snake and ladder educational media to increase knowledge, attitudes and prevent risky sexual behavior.

Abstract

Background : Patient safety is a top priority in healthcare services to prevent avoidable incidents and reduce the risk of medical errors. The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that patient safety incidents are among the top ten leading causes of death and disability worldwide. However, the reporting rate for patient safety incidents remains low, reflecting a weak safety culture in hospitals. One factor influencing healthcare professionals' attitudes toward reporting patient safety incidents is leadership style. Transformational leadership is believed to enhance motivation, proactive behavior, and strengthen the safety culture in hospital settings. Objectives : This study aims to analyze the relationship between head nurses' transformational leadership style and attitudes toward reporting patient safety incidents in the inpatient wards of Kanjuruhan Regional General Hospital, Malang. Methods : This study employed an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 154 nurses working in inpatient wards, selected through purposive sampling. The research instruments included the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ) to assess transformational leadership and a questionnaire on attitudes toward patient safety incident reporting. Data analysis was conducted using the Spearman Rank correlation test, with a significance level of p < 0.05.Results : The findings revealed that transformational leadership had a mean score of 4.03 (SD = 0.504), while attitudes toward patient safety incident reporting had a mean score of 3.94 (SD = 0.429). Spearman Rank correlation analysis showed a significant positive relationship between transformational leadership and attitudes toward patient safety incident reporting (p = 0.000, r = 0.523). This indicates that the higher the implementation of transformational leadership by the head nurse, the more positive the nurses' attitudes toward reporting patient safety incidents. Conclusions : Transformational leadership plays a crucial role in improving attitudes toward patient safety incident reporting and fostering a stronger safety culture in hospitals. Therefore, leadership training for head nurses and the reinforcement of a non-punitive incident reporting system are necessary to enhance healthcare professionals' engagement in incident reporting.

Abstract

Background: The prevalence of adolescent involvement in prostitution has grown in the millennial era, often driven by lifestyle demands, economic pressures, and environmental influences. Despite various preventive and repressive government efforts, the phenomenon persists, affecting adolescents' physical and mental health and posing significant risks to future generations. Objectives: This study aims to explore the factors contributing to risky behaviors and adolescent involvement in commercial sex, highlighting the roles of external environments, media, alcohol, education, and financial pressures. Methods: A systematic review was conducted using the PEOs framework, analyzing articles from databases like PubMed. Inclusion criteria included original peer-reviewed articles published between 2014 and 2024 in English or Indonesian, focusing on risky behaviors and adolescent involvement in commercial sex. Exclusion criteria eliminated grey literature and non-research-based articles. Eleven articles were rigorously selected for critical appraisal and numerical assessment. Results: Findings reveal that family dysfunction, peer pressure, and media influences significantly shape adolescent behavior. Alcohol consumption impairs decision-making, increasing vulnerability to exploitation. Educational attainment correlates with risk, as adolescents with limited education are more prone to engage in risky behaviors. Financial pressures further drive adolescents toward commercial sex as a perceived solution to economic challenges. Conclusions: Adolescent involvement in commercial sex results from a confluence of external and internal factors, emphasizing the need for holistic interventions. Addressing family dynamics, enhancing educational opportunities, monitoring media exposure, and providing economic support can mitigate these risks. Comprehensive, multidisciplinary strategies are critical to protecting adolescent well-being and reducing the prevalence of risky behaviors

Abstract

Background: Obstructed labor is a complication during childbirth that can increase maternal and neonatal mortality and morbidity, making early detection crucial for prevention. However, currently, no instrument is available to predict the occurrence of obstructed labor. Objectives: This study aims to develop an effective prediction instrument for the early identification of obstructed labor, enabling timely interventions to reduce associated risks. Methods: The study employs a case-control design for the development of the instrument and a cohort design for its testing. The research is conducted in three phases: Phase I involves a literature review to identify risk factors, Phase II focuses on the initial testing of the instrument, and Phase III includes the validation of the instrument in a clinical setting. The study population consists of 360 women in labor for instrument development and 40 women for instrument testing. Bivariate analysis is conducted using chi-square tests, while multivariate analysis is performed using logistic regression, followed by ROC curve analysis to determine the optimal cutoff point. Results: The results indicate significant associations between obstructed labor and factors such as infant birth weight, maternal height, age, obesity, upper arm circumference, anemia, history of abdominal surgery, and weight gain during pregnancy. The final predictive model demonstrated an AUC of 0.908, indicating excellent predictive performance with a sensitivity of 85.7% and specificity of 80.8%. Conclusions: This study highlights the importance of early risk detection and intervention and contributes to the literature by providing an instrument capable of predicting the risk of obstructed labor.

Abstract

Background: The interaction between mothers and premature babies in the early period of oral feeding is beneficial for forming social, cognitive, and emotional development. It is essential to assess maternal interactions with premature babies using valid and reliable instruments. However, culturally adapted tools in the Indonesian context remain limited, making localized validation efforts crucial. This research was to analyze the translation and adaptation process of the Indonesian version of MIRI.Methods: The translation and adaptation process followed standard procedures, including forward translation, expert panel review, back translation, pilot testing, and finalization of the instrument. The process involved collaboration with the International Language Institute and experts in pediatric nursing, neonatology, and nutrition. A pilot test was conducted with 30 mothers of premature infants who were receiving care in a neonatal intensive care unit. The evaluation focuses on content validity and reliability of the translation instruments. Results: The translation and adaptation results showed I-CVI between 0.67 to 1.00. The MIRI S-CVI results for all items were 0.91 in the excellent category. The reliability test on mothers showed a Cronbach's Alpha value of 0.74 in the valid and reliable category. Items with lower I-CVI scores were reviewed and refined based on expert feedback to enhance clarity and cultural relevance. Furthermore, participants reported that the questionnaire items were clear and relevant to their experiences during oral feeding interactions with their premature infants. Conclusions: The Indonesian version of the MIRI demonstrates strong validity and reliability for assessing maternal interaction with premature infants during oral feeding. The instrument can be effectively utilized in both research settings and clinical practice, particularly in neonatal intensive care environments where understanding maternal-infant interaction is crucial for supporting early developmental outcomes.

Abstract

Background: Nausea and vomiting are common symptoms in pregnancy caused by hormonal changes. Although physiological, if not properly managed, these symptoms can lead to nutritional disturbances, dehydration, electrolyte imbalances, and hyperemesis gravidarum. Proper management is essential to alleviate nausea and vomiting and prevent pregnancy complications. Non-pharmacological methods are preferred to manage nausea and vomiting in pregnancy due to their lack of side effects.   Objectives: This study aims to assess the impact of moxibustion on the P6 (Neiguan) and ST36 (Zusanli) acupoints on the incidence of nausea and vomiting during pregnancy. Moxibustion is known for its effectiveness in stimulating Qi at specific points that may be difficult to access through acupressure alone, thus improving the body's energy balancing process. The intervention is intended to improve pregnancy health outcomes. Methods: This study uses a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest one-group framework to evaluate the effectiveness of moxibustion on nausea and vomiting during the first trimester of pregnancy. The participants consisted of 30 pregnant women selected using quota sampling based on inclusion criteria at selected independent midwifery practices. The instrument used was the Pregnancy Unique Quantification of Emesis (PUQE) to assess the intensity of nausea and vomiting in the respondents.  Results: The results show a significant difference in the incidence of nausea and vomiting in the first trimester before and after moxibustion treatment (p < 0.05).Conclusions: Therefore, it can be concluded that moxibustion is beneficial in reducing nausea and vomiting symptoms during the early stages of pregnancy
