Abstract

The emergency department in a hospital tends to pose a high stress level. This is due to the conditions, i.e., life-threatening condition of patients that often trigger the stress on the nurses. The nurses are required to act immediately and to possess specific skills to provide accurate treatment to the patients. Such a condition signifies the major role of nurses in a hospital. It also demands improvement in the performances of the nurses to conceptualize quality health services. Occupational stress is a term used to refer to depression or emotion, being irritable towards the situation of the workplace, and it is signified by both mental and physical condition of a person. This inevitably affects one’s health as and the spiritual condition. Excessive workload is among the factors causing occupational stress. This study aims at exploring the correlation between workload and occupational stress of nurses in the emergency department of Regional Public Hospital RSUD. Prof. Dr. W. Z. Johannes Kupang. The cross-sectional study involved 40 respondents selected using a total sampling method. The data were analyzed using the Pearson chi-square correlation. It is revealed that the p-value 0.000 is lower than α 0.05, meaning that H0 is rejected and signifying that workload correlates with the occupational stress of the nurses in the research site.

Abstract

Mothers are family members who play an important role in family life. Maternal deaths that occur in every minute at every day are mostly caused by complications related to pregnancy, childbirth, and puerperal. Contraceptive use in reproductive age couples is one of the strategies of the family planning to reduce maternal mortality. This study aimed to investigate the factors associated with contraceptive use in reproductive age couples. This study used a correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. The samples were 56 people selected using a non-probability sampling technique, i.e., purposive sampling.  Data were analyzed using Rank Spearman test and contingency coefficient test. The results showed that there was a correlation between contraceptive use and factors of age, education, employment, customs / culture and quality of family planning services with a p-value of <0.05. This study recommends that Mengwi Public Health Center I provide a counseling room for family planning acceptors and increase the schedule of family planning services as well as improve the quality of health workers especially in giving counseling about contraceptive use.

Abstract

Hip fracture increased due to the aging phenomenon. Hip fracture injuries are identified as one of the most serious healthcare problems affecting the elderly, including instrument and physical function and quality of life problem. This study aimed to evaluate quality of life between 1st and 3rd months older person with hip fracture who had received surgical treatment. A prospective study design with 66 older people who have hip surgical treatment. Face-to-face Quality of life assessment used SF36 instrument was conducted. In general, a significant difference between 1st and 3rd months post hospital discharge was found (p = 0.001). In addition, the role of disability due to emotional problems and role disability due to physical health problems has the highest in differences than another dimension (M ± SD; 55.0 ± 38.6 and M ± SD; 44.3 ± 38.7; respectively), However, there is no significant difference in fatigue subscale (p = 0.624) between 1st and 3rd months post hospital discharge. In general, there was an increase in the quality of life between 1st  and 3rd months among hip elderly patients without concomitant disease. Comprehensive nursing care is needed in order to maintain and improve all dimensions of the quality of life for elderly with hip surgery. Longitudinal studies with a complexity of variables and a larger number of samples are highly recommended for future study.

Abstract

In Indonesia, prolonged delivery is one of the cause of Maternal Mortality. The prolonged delivery which occurs in the latent phase is also called prolonged latent phase, a labor which lasts over eight hours of labor in primigravida. This research was started by the society’s custom of consuming fruits that are beneficial to smooth a labor process, consuming pineapples. Pineapples contain high amounts of vitamin C, sugar, vitamin A, a number of minerals, and an enzyme called bromelain. Bromelain is an enzyme that stimulates the production of prostaglandin. The increased prostaglandin causes contractions in the uterine muscle so that labor occurs. This study aims to determine the effect of pineapple juice towards the duration of the first stage of the latent phase. The method of this research was quasi experimental. The study was conducted in July to September 2018 at Ciruas Public Health Center, Serang, Banten. The sample in this study was 80 mothers in latent phase. Sampling was taken by using consecutive sampling technique. The analysis of timing differences in umbilical cord detachment was tested by using the Mann Whitney statistical test. The result shows that the average length of time in the first stage of the latent phase in the intervention group was 91,53 minutes, which was 57,75 minutes faster compared to the control group’s length of time, 149,28 minutes. There was a significant difference in the group given pineapple juice with those who were not given pineapple juice with p value 0,002 (α <0,05). Giving pineapple juice can accelerate the duration of the stage I latent phase in primigravida because pineapples contain an enzyme called bromelain and serotonin. The consumption of pineapple can be a solution for nutrients consumed when labor started at the first stage of latent phase and make the time period of the latent phase shorter and reduce the risk of intervention during labor.
