Abstract

The purposes of this study were: 1). to analyze public perception of the existence of swiftlet house in their environment; 2). to analyze to analyze relationship characteristics with public perceptions to the presence of swiftlet house. This study was conducted in Palangka Raya City ie RW XII Langkai Village and RW XIII Pahandut Village, Pahandut District, from March to June 2012.   The study was conducted using survey research methods. Determination of the sample is done by purposive sampling method and the data collected are the primary data and secondary data. The analysis based on the average score, sign test, chi square test and rank Spearman correlation test, which presented descriptively. The results showed that the public perception of swiftlet house in study site is not the same. The analysis of data obtained were 30 head of household who refused (60 %) which more than families that received 5 head of household (10% ) and families that hesitant 15 head of household (30 %).  There is a real relationship between public perception of the swiftlet house with residence status shown by X2hitung = 6,480  >  X2tabel= 5,991  residence and distance from the swiftlet house indicated by thitung = 4,35 >  ttabel = 2,01

Abstract

Mangrove forests have ecological functions as an absorber of carbon dioxide and store carbon through photosynthesis. How much carbon stored in mangrove forest can be estimated by biomass contained as an individual constituent mangrove forest vegetation. This research aims to develop allometric model to estimate content of biomass on Rhizophora apiculata which is one of the compilers specific of the mangrove forest. Research methods through logging (destruction) with a total sample of 35 trees that represents the distribution diameter of 11-78 cm. The results showed content of the biomass species Rhizophora apiculata as much as 77% on the trunk, 14% on the branch, 6% on the twigs and 3% on the leaves. Allometric are obtained to estimate the biomass content on Rhizophora apiculata types are as follows: Y = 0,1488D2,4310; branch section Y = 0.0229D2,4521; twigs part Y = 0.0375D2,0389; leaf   Y = 0.1898D1,2809; total tree Y = 0.2300D2,3766. Through determination test concluded that the allometric chosen is Y = 0.2300D2,3766 with the value of the determinant coefficient of 0.9479

Abstract

Mechanism process and work activity  tyre unit in PT. Rahman Abdijaya workshop using machines and working equipments. Noise with high intensity of those machines and working equipments will raise noise exposure and will increase the risk of the worker.  This study aims to analysis affect of noise to hearing function and blood pressure at tyre worker in workshop PT. Rahman Abdijaya   in  Tabalong district.  It is an observational study with cross-sectional design. Sample size was 32 worker. Data collection by audiometric  measurement, tension before and after working measurement also noise in working environment measurement. Univariat analysis, bivariat analysis. With chi-square test are used to analyzed the data. The results of the study showed that there was not significant affect of noise to hearing function (sig.α = 0,401 > 0,05), but there was significant affect of noise to sistole blood pressure (sig.α = 0,039 < 0,05) and diastole blood pressure (sig.α = 0,019 < 0,05). Suggestion for the company are necessary noise measurement in all working company area, maintenance activity must be done for periodically and all of broken equipment must be replaced, audiometric measurement every ones in a year, blood pressure measurement must be controlled, Safety sign compatible as safety and health risk, prepared APD like ear muff, training  and socialized about noise affect to the health and how to control them.

Abstract

This research was aimed to explore the society perception to climate change impacts which related to agricultural activities, rice productivity and farmers’ income; to do in-depth study about farmers’ definition related with climate change; and to absorb ideas and identification to agricultural alternatives. Survey method, interview and questionnaires were conducted to samples (respondent) which purposively chosen. This research was divided into three terms. At the first term, we use perceptional value test, chi square and contingentional coefficient. Second term, we applied the marker (sign) test. At the final term we applied focus group discussion technique. The result showed that: perception of farmer society was climate change have impacts to their agricultural activities, so that decrease rice productivity and income, but it have small effect to farmers’ innovation effort. Climate change was already realized by farmer society in Sungai Rangas Tengah Village Banjar Regency. Agricultural alternatives for farmer society to overcome these problems, were: poultries (42.65%), non-rice agriculture (26.47%), others (marketing, handcrafter, labor) (20.59%), fisheries (17.65%).

Abstract

This article aimed to explain the role of scavengers as a sustainable landfill management strategy. Strategies using high technology or technical innovation faced many obstacles because of the limited cost and mastery of technology in the landfill. The consequences of the ancient paradigm and undeveloped model of waste management directed to an unsustainable situation and keep growing the opening of the landfill as a disposal site. Therefore we need an effective effort to reduce the waste that goes to landfill so it will not only be a place for waste bury but also being waste treatment facility in order to transform waste to be a valuable resource. Landfill and scavengers are things that can not be separated. When people reject the presence of landfill, a scavenger is highly dependent on the presence of waste that goes to landfill. Scavengers as one of the potential waste management strategies need to be considered. Scavengers and garbage are two things that have a close connection. Garbage always produced daily by humans and scavengers pick up the waste that can be sold. Some research related scavengers role in reducing waste will be presented. From the results of literature review and the results of the research, it can be concluded that regard scavengers as a community are important for the environment and developing landfill management strategy.
