Multi-supplier is one of the strategies to minimize holding cost and average stock-out cost as long as to stabilize the supply of raw materials. The common problems that the firms may face when applying the multi-supplier strategy are determining the right schedule and quantity ordered for each supplier. Complexity of the problem increases with the facts that each supplier may have different parameters, demand is uncertain, and the firms’ constraints. Thus, this research is done to answer two main objectives: (1) to determine the optimum safety time (minimum raw material inventory) to prevent the stockout due to the demand uncertainty and (2) to determine the right schedule and quantity ordered for each supplier considering the different suppliers parameters: price, lead time, and supply capacity. The problem is modeled in Mixed Integer Linear Programming with total minimum inventory cost as the objective. With the aim of testing the model, a case of multinational company that apply the multi-supplier strategy is used.

Successful Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) projects require change management to support the integration of the ERP systems into work environment because ERP imple¬men¬tations involve lots of changes on technical infrastructures, business processes, organization structure, rules and skills of people in the organization. This study was aimed to explain the challenges in implementing an ERP module in a Indonesian telecommunication company, focusing on the change management process involves in the project. A case study at a tele¬com¬munication company was used to collect empirical data and to analyses important aspects of project arrangements that will have an impact on the change management process accompanying the ERP implementation project. The following two aspects of changes were analyzed as the impact of ERP implementation: changes in individual behaviors and changes in the organisational practices. Based on the empirical study, two important aspects of change management effectiveness in the project and post-project stage were highlighted: alignment of the organization structure to support IT-business collaboration and alignment of employee orientation towards effective use of ERP systems. Besides, this study also highlighted that it is important to plan and execute change management process in the post-project stage to obtain benefits from ERP implementation.

In this paper we consider modeling of wood drying process in an industry. The process is conducted in a kiln oven. Mathematically, the drying inside the wood is considered as an initial and boundary value problem. The model is a diffusion equation where the diffusion rate depends on the moisture content of the wood. We investigate a smooth diffusion rate and we compare the model with real data from an industry. The model shows a good agreement with the real data. Moreover, the model shows a smoother process of drying, which is more desirable by the timber and lumber industries to improve their current methods of drying.

The use and application of quality tools and techniques as means for improving quality and performance in an organization has been widely known since people saw the success of their applications at Japanese firms. It is interesting to note that those quality tools and techniques are simple and most of them do not require highly formal educational background to use them. Ironically, instead of their simplicity experience has shown that many companies have failed in gaining benefits when trying to use those tools. Those failures are mainly because managers do not realize that the value of the tool is derived from the conditions of use. If the environment does not provide a set of conditions in which it is rational and beneficial to use the tool, then it will not be seen as having value and will not be used. This paper will briefly discuss several important aspects and factors which need attention as prerequisites for the use of quality tools and techniques so they can produce real, maximum and long term benefits. In this paper we consider single vendor single buyer integrated inventory model with probabilistic demand and equal delivery lot size. The model contributes to the current literature by relaxing the deterministic demand assumption which has been used for almost all integrated inventory models. The objective is to minimize expected total costs incurred by the vendor and the buyer. We develop effective iterative procedures for finding the optimal solution. Numerical examples are used to illustrate the benefit of integration. A sensitivity analysis is performed to explore the effect of key parameters on delivery lot size, safety factor, production lot size factor and the expected total cost. The results of the numerical examples indicate that our models can achieve a significant amount of savings. Finally, we compare the results of our proposed model with a simulation model.

Nowadays, good products are not sufficient. Market competition requires a good after-sales service. After-sales service quality has been identified as a source of revenue and competitive advantage. While other industry sectors have readily paid attention to after-sales service quality, little study has been done on the effectiveness of after-sales service quality in the field of real estate. This study aims to explore the relationship among after-sales service quality, customer satisfaction, and customer loyalty. Especially, we want to confirm the impact of after-sales service quality on customer satisfaction and customer loyalty of middle-upper class real estate in Surabaya. This research was conducted by survey on 170 respondents from four housing complexes in Surabaya, i.e. Pakuwon City, Citraland, Bukit Darmo Golf, and Graha Family. The data was examined by using structural equation modeling (SEM). Through data analysis we confirm the positive correlation between after-sales service quality and customer satisfaction, the positive correlation between customer satisfaction and customer loyalty, and the direct and indirect relationships between after-sales service quality and customer loyalty. The practical implication of this study provides assurance to real estate management on the effectiveness of after-sales service quality in maintaining old customers and encouraging new consumers.

Ant colony optimization (ACO) is one of the meta-heuristic methods developed for finding solutions to optimization problems such as scheduling. Local search method is one part of the ACO which determines the quality of the resulting solution. In this paper, Tabu Search was proposed as a method of local search in ACO to solve the problem of flowshop scheduling. The purpose of this scheduling was to minimize the makespan. Makespan and computation time of the proposed method were compared to the ACO that implemented Job-Index as local search method. Using proposed algorithm, makespan values obtained were not significantly different than solutions of ACO using Job-Index method, and had computation time shorter. The paper describes a dynamic variant of the traditional ABC storage policy. The variant is to be used in manual order picking warehouses where SKUs experience a rather unstable demand. Its objective is to reduce the order picking time. It mainly consists in shifting items between the storage areas A, B and C according to the way their daily number of order lines changes. A few case studies based on computer simulations have shown that this variant can yield interesting time savings if its parameters are chosen with care. One of those case studies is presented in this paper. Because of the pioneering nature of this variant, some ideas for further research are also sketched.

There are several problems in industrial process for example problems associated with product quality. In statistics, observation which is significantly different to the average is called outlier. The outlier can give significant influence to the result of modeling, which can affect the decision making. This research develops the outlier detection method using the Likelihood Displacement Statistic method, called Likelihood Displacement Statistic-Lagrange (LDL) method. The LDL method is applied to sugar and molasses production data of Djombang Baru Sugar Factory, Jombang, East Java. The result of this research shows that factors influenced the sugar and molasses production are sugar cane with the dirt less than 5%, sugar cane with the dirt between 5% to 7%, sugar cane with the dirt higher than 7%, and imbibition water

Selecting the best product concept is one of critical tasks in product development process. Making decisions at this stage becomes very difficult due to imprecise and uncertain product requirements. This paper presents the framework of product concept selection that integrates the fuzzy set theory and the analytic hierarchy process (AHP). In the proposed approach, the fuzzy membership function is employed in performing "pairwise comparison" between competing alternatives and a "reference" on each of the criteria. The use of a reference is due to the difficulty in consistently comparing concepts to one another. The comparisons are also used to obtain the relative importance of criteria with respect to the overall objective. Once pairwise comparisons are completed, vector aggregates are computed through the use of an original AHP method and fuzzy arithmetic operations. A numerical example is presented to illustrate the approach.
